We’ve been treating Beryl for a little while now ♥️

This gorgeous girl is now in the hands of the ophthalmology team at SASH and Hunter Animal Rescue need some help building up funds for her eye procedure!

Read this little one’s story below, she’s an absolute fighter 💪🏼🥹 The smallest donations go along way x

💥WE NEED YOUR HELP TO SAVE BERYL'S EYESIGHT💥

Beryl, a 12-week-old kitten, came into care in late October 2024 at just 4-5 weeks old, weighing only 237 grams—far less than her brothers, who were around 600 grams.

She struggled with severe cat flu during her early weeks, leading to failure to thrive. However, she has gained weight and is now 850 grams.

Unfortunately, Beryl's eyes suffered lasting damage from the flu. Her eyelids, which are oversized in comparison to her eyes, are rolling inward, causing her fur to rub against her ocular surfaces (entropion). This condition causes significant discomfort and requires surgery. The left eye has also been severely affected by cat flu and may need removal.

Beryl was referred to an ophthalmologist, who temporarily alleviated the discomfort by inserting contact lenses. She is scheduled for eyelid tacking surgery on 23 December 2024, with the hope that, as she grows, she will be able to undergo full eyelid surgery, possibly avoiding the removal of either eye.

Beryl is a resilient fighter, full of energy and joy despite her challenges. She loves playing with toys and her siblings.

To help cover the $800 already spent on her care, as well as the estimated $1,200 for the upcoming procedure, Hunter Animal Rescue is seeking your support.

We understand that this is a busy and expensive time of year, but we would greatly appreciate any donation, big or small, that you can make to help Beryl. Your generosity will make a huge difference in her journey to recovery and we cannot thank you enough for your kindness and support.💜

Any extra funds raised will contribute to the rescue, care, and rehoming of other vulnerable animals in need.

With the Christmas and New Years holidays fast approaching, we want to make sure our clients are well and truely ready with their pets!

Avoid any emergency vet visits by keeping toxic foods away from your pets! Ensure your family know what they can and cannot eat ♥️

If your pet is on medication, please make sure you have enough to get you through the holidays! Please see previous post for our Christmas hours ♥️

If your planning on having your pet in boarding, they need to be up to date with the correct vaccinations and usually need 2 weeks to let the vaccination become effective before they can board at most facilities ♥️

If you’re going away for the day during your holiday festivities, please ensure your pet has adequate food, water and shade during the hotter days ♥️

To book your pet in prior to the holiday rush, please contact us on (02) 4072 4700

With rain coming in shortly, we still want to remind you that the heat will be back next week! Learn about the 5-second rule for your pet during the incoming days and summer ahead ☀️

If you’ve got your pups walking around with you, we recommend doing it in the earlier hours of the day or later in the afternoon.

We have a simple trick to check if the ground is too hot for your pup and it’s the 5-second rule 🤚🏻 🐶

Just place the back of your hand on the ground for five seconds. If you find it too hot to handle, your dog likely feels the same way. It’s best to wait for cooler temperatures before heading out!

To protect your pup's paws from burns, consider walking them early in the morning before the pavement heats up or later in the evening on cooler grass 🌿

If you suspect your dog has overheated or is experiencing heat-related issues, contact us on (02) 4072 4700 ♥️

MEET CHLOE ♥️🐾 Our incredibly caring and hard working trainee veterinary nurse!

Ever since Chlo was a little girl, she would watch Animal Cops Detroit on Animal Planet and she wanted to save animals like they did. Growing up, she was surrounded by pets, she knew from a young age what she wanted to do.

When asking Chloe what she loves the most about working at Elder St Vets, she said,
‘I love working with all the girls and being in a supportive environment. I love getting to see all types of animals and seeing our patients get better after being sick and treated at our clinic.’

We are so lucky to have such a passionate, empathetic and down to earth trainee like Chloe and we cannot wait to see her grow and become an amazing vet nurse, which she is already showing us daily ♥️

Despite still studying, Chloe is assisting in monitoring in surgeries, working on reception and helping us with everything with a smile and a willingness to learn.

We are always on the look out for passionate people who would like to complete their workplacement whilst doing their Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing. We encourage those enrolling in upcoming courses at TAFE to send their resume and a cover letter to [email protected].

Help Snuffles Breathe Freely: A French Bulldog's Fight for a Brighter Future

Meet Snuffles—a sweet, snuggly French Bulldog whose biggest challenge shouldn’t be the simple act of breathing. Like many French Bulldogs, Snuffles has brachycephalic airway syndrome (BAS), a condition that makes every breath a struggle. When he plays, walks, or even relaxes, Snuffles fights to get enough air—a battle that causes him discomfort and limits his quality of life.

To give Snuffles the life he deserves, we need to raise $1,500 for a corrective surgery that will help him breathe freely and enjoy life to the fullest. This surgery involves widening his nasal passages and removing obstructive tissue to open his airway, allowing him to play, sleep, and move without difficulty or distress.

**Why This Surgery Matters**
Snuffles deserves a life where he can chase toys, go for walks, and cuddle without discomfort. By helping him breathe better, we’re giving him a chance to live a full and joyful life, free from the limitations and potential health complications of BAS.

A message from the staff at Elder St Vets:
We had the pleasure of having beautiful Snuffles stay with us for his desexing procedure last week, something we do often for rescues that need desexing through Hunter Animal Rescue in order for them to get adopted. Snuffles spent the day lapping up all the love and cuddles from our nurses and we are so incredibly grateful for the commitment and hard work this organisation is doing in order for Snuffles to have the life he deserves.

We understand that times are tough for everyone, and any support you can offer is genuinely appreciated. Snuffle's resilience and spirit inspire us daily, and with your help, we believe we can provide him with the fighting chance he deserves.
Your donation doesn’t just help with surgery costs; it gives Snuffles a new beginning ♥️
