The perfect dog treat doesn’t exi- 🫶🧊🍦
Puppy Nina was such a happy girl for her dental check. She has healthy little puppy teeth that will start to fall out soon, making way for her adult teeth. Did you know that sometimes these baby teeth can get stuck as the adult ones come through? If you have a pup, bring them in for a free dental check this month, and we’ll make sure they’re in tip top shape. We’re sure they’ll love their visit as much as Nina 🥰🥹
Teeth brushing is the best form of dental care at home for your pets. It can be a little tricky, so go slow and get them used to the odd sensations with baby steps. Ensure it is relaxing and rewarding. Always do it in a calm way, with praise, and provide a treat afterwards. How do you think your pet would go with teeth cleaning? Let us know! 🪥

Watch as Dr. Cassy examines a Squirrel Glider that was brought in to us by Hunter Wildlife Rescue, NATF Inc. After examining its body and mouth, Cassy found several cat bite marks, as well as a small fracture in its jaw. We are treating it with medication to help eliminate infection and keep it comfortable. 🩺 Squirrel Gliders are listed as vulnerable in NSW. Please help us keep our wildlife safe by keeping your cat indoors and secure, and if you find any injured wildlife, contacting your nearest vet or Hunter Wildlife Rescue on 0418 628 483 🐿️#sugarglider #wildlife #vet #fletchervet
Getting your Indoor Cat Active! 🐈🐈⬛🔹Puzzle toys such as slow feeders, kongs, and lick mats are a great way to keep your cat occupied and engaged. It encourages positive learning and problem solving. 🔹Ditch the food bowl and let your cat hunt around the house. Divide several small portions around the house in various locations, up on shelves and behind couches, to encourage natural behaviours. If you’d like to keep a food bowl, try moving it to different locations around the house. 🔹Interactive play includes stalking, chasing, and pouncing. Attach a toy to a stick and let them chase it, using a mix of smooth and jerking movements.🔹Environmental enrichment can include playing with cardboard boxes, paper bags, vertical spaces such as cat ledges and scratching posts, or cat grass and cat-friendly plants.Let us know if you would like to know more about providing enrichment for your feline friend! 😻

🚨Canine Cough is in the Area🚨
Canine cough, also known as kennel cough, is an infectious disease that affects the respiratory system. It is very common in Newcastle and is easily spread wherever dogs socialise such as boarding kennels, and dog parks.
It sounds very much like your dog is ‘trying to bring something up’ or ‘has a bone stick in their throat’. They have a dry, hacking persistent cough that may linger for several weeks. Although frustrating and bothersome, many otherwise healthy dogs will recover without medication or treatment. However for some, it has the potential to progress into a more serious and life-threatening infection if pneumonia and chronic bronchitis develop. Antibiotics or cough mixture may be required to clear the condition.
Luckily there is a vaccination. There are multiple components of canine cough. The vaccines cover Parainfluenza (viral) and Bordatella bronchiseptica (bacterial). The vaccination which will suit best will depend on their lifestyle. Ask us which one we would best recommend for your pet 😷
