With so many yummy human foods out at this time of year, you may be tempted to give your canine friend a special treat.
But some of these human foods are highly toxic to dogs, and can pose severe consequences to their health.
This holiday season stick with your pets regular diet, and treats made especially for them.

Coco the beautiful Boxer had a TPLO (Tibial Plateau Levelling Osteotomy) procedure with us recently, performed by Dr Jonathon Nott. After an initial appointment for limping, and showing minimal improvement on anti-inflammatory medications, Coco underwent x-rays which showed evidence of Cranial Cruciate Ligament disease, and was recommend undergoing a TPLO procedure.
The TPLO procedure helps to stabilize a knee, not by replacing the ligament but by replacing its function. A change is made to the angle of the top of the tibia, so it has a level tibial plateau, which decreases the sliding motion of the joint. It allows the other muscles to support the knee without a cranial cruciate ligament.
You can read more about the TPLO surgery, and other procedures our experienced surgeons are able to provide for your pet by following the link in our description.
Coco recovered well and is expected to resume her normal doggy activities after a few months of rest and rehabilitation.

It's itchy season again, and unfortunately any dog can get an ear infection. But long-eared ones like spaniels and retrievers and hairy-eared ones like terriers and poodles are more susceptible. Look out for head-shaking, pawing at their ear, redness, and odors as these are signs of a problem.

This week we celebrate the tireless efforts of our Veterinary Nurses and Veterinary Technologists throughout Australia, and especially the team at Brunker Road Veterinary Centre. The kindness, knowledge and skill they bring to the hospital each day is truly amazing.
They inspire every day, from the love they have for each and every animal that is in their care, to the compassion and comfort they provide for pet parents throughout the good and not so good times, our team goes above and beyond.
Vet Nurses & Technologists around Australia come together every day through their love of animals, and we would like to send out a big thank you, and a Happy Veterinary Nurse and Veterinary Technologists Week to all!

What Is Computed Tomography?
Computed Tomography, or CT, provides internal three-dimensional images of the body. This enhanced level of visualisation can provide greater success in detecting and treating the conditions affecting our animal companions.
Good boy Buddy the Labrador was referred to us from Doyalson Animal Hospital needing a CT to look at a large lump which had appeared on his neck. In Buddy’s case, a CT allowed for the density of the lump to be determined, and if it was infiltrating into any surrounding areas, which was vital prior to Buddy having surgery for the lump to be removed
There are many situations in which a regular radiograph, ultrasound or endoscope cannot provide the visual details that is available through the use of CT, and why CT may be suggested to you by your veterinarian as an option for your pet.
If you would like further information about CT imaging for your pet, or your pet has been recommended to have CT imaging done, please call and speak with one of our friendly team on 49572269.

Annie The Wonder Puppy!
Annie the six-month-old Golden Retriever X was referred to us from Macleay Valley Veterinary Service in Kempsey with a fracture in her hip joint. Annie’s vet had taken xrays of the injured area to identify what the issue was and recommended surgical repair of Annie’s injury.
The specific type of fracture which Annie had is called a capital physeal fracture. The capital physis is a growth plate located at the head of the femur bone, the long bone in a dog’s hind leg. The capital physis is a part of the head of the bone which forms the hip joint. Growth plates are susceptible to developing fractures in younger, still growing, animals.
Surgery was performed by Dr Jonathon Nott, which required reduction of the fracture, and stabilisation of the bone fragment, by placing 3 surgical pins in the bone to secure it and allow to heal.
Annie recovered from her surgery well and was the best puppy throughout her whole stay with us, enjoying lots of cuddles from the staff. Get well soon Annie!
