Happy New Year! 🎉

Wishing you a safe and joyful year full of love and animals (of course)!

Just a reminder, we’re currently closed and will reopen tomorrow, Thursday, 2nd January, at 8 AM.

If you need urgent veterinary assistance while we’re away, please contact the Animal Referral and Emergency Centre on 4957 7106.

With New Year’s celebrations come an increase in pet anxiety and the chance of lost pets. Here are some tips to help keep your pets safe and calm:
- Keep your pets secure inside where possible, or ensure your yard is secure and sealed.
- Make sure your pet has a collar/harness and name tag with your current contact details.
- Ensure your pet’s microchip details are up to date in case they get lost.
- Provide a quiet area where your pet can retreat to get away from crowds and noise. For example, allow access to their crate (if crate trained), set up a private room with all their necessities (food, water, pet litter/puppy pads), play a quiet radio or white noise, and use pheromone sprays as a helpful tool.

Enjoy the holiday, and don’t forget to give your pets some extra love today!

Prepare for a Safe and Calm New Year for Your Pets🎉

With New Year's celebrations just around the corner, it's important to remember that loud noises and fireworks can cause increased anxiety for our furry friends. This time of year also sees a rise in lost pets due to fear and stress.

To help keep your pets safe, calm, and comfortable as we ring in the New Year, here are some important tips:
- Keep your pets secure indoors: If possible, keep your pets inside where they’re safe from the loud noises outside. If they must stay outdoors, ensure your yard is secure and sealed to prevent them from escaping in fear.
- Update identification: Make sure your pet has a collar or harness with a current name tag and contact details. Don't forget to check that your pet’s microchip details are up to date in case they get lost during the celebrations.
- Create a quiet space: The noise from fireworks and parties can be overwhelming. Set up a quiet, secure area for your pet to retreat to. If they’re crate trained, allow access to their crate, or set up a private room with all their essentials like food, water, and bedding. You can also try playing a quiet radio, white noise, or using pheromone sprays to help calm them.
- Stay calm and offer extra love: Pets can pick up on our emotions, so try to stay calm and composed. Offering extra affection and attention can help reassure them during this busy time.

By preparing in advance, you can ensure your pet stays safe, secure, and stress-free while you enjoy the celebrations. We wish you all a wonderful, peaceful New Year—give your pets some extra cuddles and love today!💖

Hot Weather Warning: Keep Your Pets Safe This Summer

As summer heats up in Australia, it’s crucial to keep your pets safe from extreme temperatures.

Here are some essential tips:
- Never leave your pet in a car. Even on mild days, the inside of a car can reach dangerous temperatures within minutes, leading to heat stroke.
- Provide access to indoor spaces whenever possible, especially during the hottest parts of the day. Air conditioning or fans can help keep them cool.
- Ensure there’s plenty of shade and fresh water available at all times. Hydration is key, so refill water bowls regularly.
- Avoid walking on hot pavements. When the air temperature is around 30°C, the ground can exceed 55°C, which can burn your pet’s paws. Opt for early morning or late evening walks.
- Watch for signs of heat stress. Symptoms include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and disorientation. If your pet shows any of these signs, cool them down immediately and contact your veterinarian.

By taking these precautions, you can help ensure your furry friends stay safe and comfortable during the hot summer months!

If you are worried about your pet, please book an appointment with us:
- Phone 02 4925 2999
- Online https://buff.ly/3Yfyql1 (non-urgent appointments)

If you require Veterinary Attention while we are closed, please call the Animal Referral and Emergency Centre on 1300 838 669.

**AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION** LOLA - 2 YEAR OLD MANX X

Say hello to Lola, a beautiful 2-year-old Manx/DSH dilute calico who’s looking for a special family to call her own! With her striking mix of soft, muted colors and unique short tail, Lola is a one-of-a-kind beauty both inside and out.

Lola is a sweet and loving lady. She’s known for her sweet head bops and gentle purring – there’s nothing she loves more than being close to her people and sharing moments of love. She’s also a big fan of snacks, and if you have a treat, she’ll be sure to let you know she’s ready for a little indulgence!

While Lola is a loving companion, she prefers to be the only pet in the household. She enjoys all the attention to herself and would thrive in a home where she can be your one and only feline friend. She’s a perfect match for someone looking for a cuddly, loyal companion who will adore you completely!

If you're looking for a sweet, playful, and loving cat who will fill your life with affection and joy, Lola might just be the perfect fit for you!

Lola is in foster care in Caves Beach, NSW. Her adoption fee includes her vaccinations, microchipping and desexing.

Road Safety for Pets: Keep Your Fur Family Safe and Avoid Fines!

When driving with your pet, safety should always come first—not just for you, but for your furry friend too. Here’s what you need to know about road rules in NSW to avoid fines and keep your pet safe:

NSW Road Rules for Pets:
- Unrestrained Pets = Fines: If your pet distracts you or prevents you from controlling the vehicle, fines can reach up to $422 (in a school zone), plus 3 demerit points.
- No Pets on Laps: It’s illegal and dangerous to drive with your pet on your lap.
- Proper Pet Restraint: Ensure your pet is safely secured in a carrier or harness while in the car.
- Dogs in Utes: Carrying an unrestrained dog in the back of a ute can result in fines of $500+.

What Happens if Your Pet Gets Hurt?
If your pet is injured while unrestrained, you could face fines of up to $5,500 and 6 months in jail under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act—not to mention the vet bills and stress of an injured pet.

Pet Transport Tips:
- Small Pets: Use a secure carrier or crate, strapped in with a seatbelt.
- Large Pets: Consider a pet harness and seatbelt system for added safety.
- Never Leave Pets in a Car: Never leave your pet unattended in a vehicle—especially on hot days.

Prepare for the Road:
- Pack essentials like water, food, your pet’s favourite toys, and medications.
- Research pet-friendly accommodations before you travel.

Keep your pets safe and travel responsibly!

Meet Reggie, the brave dachshund who was in for his castration today!
He made the most of it, earning plenty of cuddles—he even convinced Ari to hold him while she worked!

Reggie loved his enrichment toys, like his treat ball and mats, which helped keep him calm and engaged during recovery.

Well done, Reggie! We’re so glad he’s doing well.
