As the temperatures soar into the high 30’s today, it’s important to keep our pets safe from the dangers of hot weather. Animals cannot regulate their body temperature as well as humans can, and are at high risk of heatstroke.
☀️ Signs of heatstroke include:
- Excessive panting or difficulty breathing
- Drooling or thick saliva
- Lethargy or weakness
- Vomiting or diarrhea
- Bright red or pale gums
- Uncoordinated movement or collapse
🫵🏼 What you can do:
- Always provide fresh water and shade
- Avoid walks during the hottest parts of the day (walk early or late at night)
- Never leave your pet in a parked car - even if it’s for a few minutes!
- Use cooling mats or fans
- If possible, bring your pets indoors close to air conditioning or fans
If you suspect your pet might be suffering with heatstroke, move them to a cooler spot and contact us ASAP on 4951 4222 (or your closest vet to you at the time).
