The results are in for our little guessing game.

Guess the number of girls and boys from two separate clutches of Lutino Male over pure Green Hen, 6 eggs were viable
The results are:
5 Males
1 girl
There was some good guesses but none of us got it correct.

Sometimes injuries are part of breeding birds.

This is one of my Lutino hens from last year.

I did hand raise her but she has been in the aviary for a year but she remained very friendly.
One morning I noticed her leg limp and hanging. I called her and she flew straight over and let me pick her up and inspect her hanging leg.
It had almost been bitten off, cut open, tendons exposed and clearly a compounded break. I feared the worst for this sweet girl so off to the vet we went.
They wanted to operate with internal and external pins at a cost of many many many thousands of dollars. I was not prepared to do that and instead i ask them to stitch her up and set the leg as best they could, which they did.
I took her home and brought her inside into my hospital cage treating twice a day with antibiotics and inflammatory/ pain relief medication, hand feeding her and keeping her as still as possible.
Well what a great result, stitches out and has healed beautifully with leg nice and straight.

Leg was reset again and home we went but her leg remained limp motionless for two weeks and then signs of movement slowly came back.
Now still splinted but foot and leg are working nicely, she is perching on it and climbing all around her cage, even hang upside down, she is even hovering around the room occasionally and land nicely back on my arm.
Not once did she bite me or vet or nurses. She just allowed everyone to help her.
What a good girl and great result and I’m expecting a full recovery. I will keep her inside with me now for a couple of months or even until Xmas.
A good result story from something that could have been fatal.

Well the update on my last post is 3 split Lutino males are out and the last egg in this clutch is viable with a good heart beat and should be out over the next few days.

That has eliminated a few guesses.

Both clutches will be out before the end of month and I’ll keep everyone updated.

Let’s play a little game just for fun and only if you want to.
Here we have 2 separate clutches.
Both are Lutino male over pure green hens so we know the s*x of the babies as soon as they come out of the shell.
Red eyed babies are all girls and dark blue eyed babies are all boys.
The question is. How many girls?
And how many boys will we get from these two separate clutches?
I’ll help a little. One of the eggs is out as the chick died in early stages so there is only 6 eggs in this.
My guess is 2 girls 4 boys
Your guess is ???
Note: I I also believe 3 babies will hatch out tomorrow. I let you know

A little bit different these birds.

All split blue birds but this line seems to hold onto melanin around the head area which is unusual. One hen more so than the others.
I have seen this before and even though not common the result was normal blue birds that were produced.
Only time will tell if means anything or nothing at all.
Possibly a dark gene or not.
The extra melanin is more noticeable in person compared to what you can see in the photos

It may just be a different phenotype in this line with no genetic differences 🤷‍♂️

My misses said I’m a dirty old perv 😜 because I watch and video the birds having s*x. But I can’t help it,it’s one of the best times of the year when your birds are doing the Giggy gig.
We all hope for a good result and this gives us hope.
So I will continue to be the dirty old perv I guess.
This pair is split Cinnamon male over pure green hen.
We have 4 pair of split cinnamon together this year and I’ll be happy even if I only get one cinnamon Hen.
In my opinion the cinnamon mutation is one of the best mutations and one that many people overlook.
This diluting mutation has so many possibilities when mixed with the right genes and some of the most beautiful mutations can be created.

Another nice pairing.
With a large split Pallid male and large pure hen.
No fertility from this pair last year so hopefully there is some success this year.
Not the easiest way to breed a colour mutation but gives the best results in my opinion.
Always 🤞

Comparison photos of our Lutino line compared to pure green.
I took these photos back in early May.
Both are hens and the same age, bred last season.
I bred the Lutino and the pure green came from old Fred from Wagga Wagga.
Fair to say we have a great Lutino line.
If anyone is looking for any of our Lutino line flick us a private message you won’t be disappointed.
Note: There is always a list of people waiting so get in as soon as you can. They are worth the wait if you don’t get one this year.

A new pairing
Violet Green/ Blue / Cleartail male and Green/Blue/Cleartail Hen.
There are never any guarantees with splits but you never know if you don’t try.
Hopefully a nice Violet Blue Cleartail this year. That would be nice 🤞

We have been so busy this year and we decided to open our nest boxes a bit later than usual. Some we have opened now and others we will wait until September for the weather to warm up. It is usually our Lutino line that just can’t wait like this pair. A young pair that proved themselves last year with fertile eggs and hatch out babies but the young mother wasn’t successful in raising them. We are hoping this year she has the necessary experience. I believe it’s important to allow your birds to learn how to raise their own babies but unfortunately that sometimes means you lose a few. I’m sure these two will work it out as both birds parents are great parents. Let the breeding season begin with some fertile eggs already in the nest from our Lutino males.
Note: this males is split Lutino

Available
The perfect breeding pair of pets.
Both hand raised and friendly, male very friendly and can be handled/ pat him.
Male is also possible split Lutino.
They talk as well.
The male is a stud, if he doesn’t put down any hen first try she can’t be put down.
The hen is 3 years old, laid last year at two and they successfully raised their babies. She is a nice sold hen.
A Top pair and will only go to a good home/

Well the chop from the new machine didn’t turn out how I would of liked.
I definitely need to learn what vegetables are best for each different blade I got.
A Dicer
A Julian and a course slicer.
I will improve and even though I did still make a bit of mess I’m happy with what I know the machine is capable of.

A few Bags for the freezer
Better things to come

02/01/2024

Well my new Xmas present works great.

The operator on the other hand, well not so good yet. I definitely need to learn how to work my new tool better with its different chopping blades but I’ll get there after a few practice runs I’m sure

Note to everyone
If you send a message to us in the in box and we don’t reply, it’s because we can’t.
We don’t ignore messages but for some reason unknown to me sometimes it says this person is unavailable and we just can’t reply.
So if this happens and we don’t reply just give me a ring, problem solved and a much better way to communicate I believe
My number is on the page. Call that number not Audio call through the chat I’ll never get it that way

A few more pictures of the 9th generation split Lutino male still available.
Hit me up if you’re interested and I’ll do a bit of a Xmas deal
He is the son on the large Lutino male on the front page. Great breeding genes

If you’re genuinely interested give me a call and we can have a conversation like people use too.
If you don’t want to call that’s fine it weeds out the people that aren’t genuinely interested in getting the bird and doesn’t waist my time.

The number is on the page.
If I don’t answer I will call you back

Soaked seeds, legumes and vegetables are the main diet for our birds plus pellets, nuts in the shell, fresh fruits and a seeds mix which I make up with dried fruits and nuts ect.

I love sitting down every afternoon after I feed them, watching them enjoy there food while I have a beer. I do this everyday and never get sick of it.
This is the true reward for me.

Miracle baby

I had two babies due to hatch out this weekend and on the Friday when the chicks were in early stage of pipping I noticed the young two year old father had thrown the two eggs out of the nest and they smashed on the floor.
Both egg smashed exposing the chicks inside and stoney cold. To my surprise I seen a small movement of one of the chicks.
I quickly grabbed the two broken eggs and removed the two chicks. Both barley alive.
I ran warm water on them and then popped them in between the misses breast to warm them up as what better way to bring anything back to life if it was possible 😜.
Then I brought my brooder to temperature.
One chick didn’t make it but this one is going strong with a good feed response.
Father was possible split cinnamon possible split blue and the chick that didn’t make it had white claws so it would of been cinnamon. It’s always the way 🤷‍♂️
But very happy I could keep one alive

Wow I had a second look and out popped another one.
Credit where credit is due. Mum done well and is feeding them and sitting on them. I got the dates wrong.
I’ll check the heart beat on the third unhatched chick tomorrow but going off the air pocket/ membrane in the egg this one will be arriving on original estimated hatch date if it’s still alive.

Edit 3rd egg had no heart beat when I checked next day. Still a very good effort from a two year old hen. I wasn’t expecting anything and she is doing a great job with the two babies she has with her
Always leave infertile eggs or eggs with chicks that didn’t make it in with the babies to give them something warm to huddle over while they are small. They can be removed later as they grow

12/09/2023

Well this was a surprise from a 2 year old hen.
I was sitting outside her aviary and having a beer and I thought I could hear a squeaking sound.

Hatched out a few days earlier then I expected, the other two are fertile but that’s what you get from young birds they don’t dring there eggs to correct fertility temperature at a similar time.
But still very well done for the young mum.
Normal pure green babies
