A few of our babies dropped off at the airport and heading to WA.
There’s a lot of hoops to jump through at the WA end, in regards to getting birds excepted over there.
Quarantine inspections, invasive species permit and a lot of back and forth logistics between myself and the receiver but it always helps when you have great people to work with.

Our last two babies we are hand raising for the year, thank god as we are tired and over it for the season.
Oh also one little Alien yes an alien I think.
There’s a story with this guy, who just won’t grow.
This is the 3rd lot of babies that have been raised with it.

It was in our first lot of babies and definitely would have died if left with the parents and if im honest I was close to putting it down myself a couple of times and even hoped it would just pass away through the night but no it would not have it and kept on fighting so we continued to do our best.

When very young it wouldn’t digest its crop properly so we flushed it and gave small dilute amounts of food to keep it going. Then it done what I call flipping its head.
I thought it’s not going to make it now but again I persevered.
Image it’s head flipped back laying on its own back like it’s neck was broken. It would even flip itself over and be laying flat on its back.
Babies don’t usually survive this but here it is many moths later.
Nature is a funny thing sometimes creatures just don’t make but we have defied the odds in case I think?
I continue to massage it and try to correct the issue for months. I thought had failed and wanted to give up many time but slowly it started to improve and eat well again.
It’s definitely looks quite strange but all limbs are working and I think it will make it.
It will be interesting to see how this little ugly duckling turns out.
No sign of actual feathers yet but a little down is coming through.
We call it/him/her flipper and I will show you the end result at some stage in the future.
Let’s see what happens 🤷‍♂️

A bit of history on this pair and a bit of a sad story.
Our home bred hen with an original Syd Smith split Lutino male straight from his back yard.

Last year at only 2 she laid 3 fertile eggs with him, hatched out two but they didn’t make it.
This year at 3 years of age she laid 4 fertile eggs with him, 3 of which made it full term but sadly all died coming out of the shell and all Lutino babies 😞.
I do like to let our hens learn how to get this incubation/ hatching process correct I feel it’s important for them to learn as heart breaking as it is when they get it wrong.
In saying that next year on her first clutch I will be taking her eggs and incubating myself and she can try herself on a second clutch if she lays a second.
I would love baby from this pair in our breeding program

So this Lutino mum snuck out a few babies without me even knowing, about 3 days ago.
Im must have been out on my estimated hatch time.
I really wanted to check on them the day they came out because last year her babies died as a fist time mother but this year she is doing a great job.
Large baby on top is Lutino and I’m going to say male form head size.
The 4th egg I’m a little worried about as the baby will be a fare bit smaller then the other babies at this stage plus it was under the other 3 babies so I’ve taken it to hatch myself as mum doesn’t have a lot of experience yet.

Available to a good family is my son and his partners Lutino hen. 5th gen.
They have two small children and really haven’t had time to give this bird the attention she deserves so they thought it would be better for her to be with a good family that can give her this time.

Her name is Billy, she is 4 years old and she has just laid eggs for the first time but has no mate.
She would do well I think with someone that already has a pet male and would like to give him a girlfriend.

What a wonderful thing to see. It never ceases to amaze me. The first sign of life. Just a heart beat with blood veins coming off it. Absolutely amazing

My misses said I’m a dirty old perv 😜 because I watch and video the birds having sex. But I can’t help it,it’s one of the best times of the year when your birds are doing the Giggy gig. We all hope for a good result and this gives us hope. So I will continue to be the dirty old perv I guess. This pair is split Cinnamon male over pure green hen. We have 4 pair of split cinnamon together this year and I’ll be happy even if I only get one cinnamon Hen. In my opinion the cinnamon mutation is one of the best mutations and one that many people overlook. This diluting mutation has so many possibilities when mixed with the right genes and some of the most beautiful mutations can be created.

Another nice pairing. With a large split Pallid male and large pure hen. No fertility from this pair last year so hopefully there is some success this year. Not the easiest way to breed a colour mutation but gives the best results in my opinion. Always 🤞

A new pairing Violet Green/ Blue / Cleartail male and Green/Blue/Cleartail Hen. There are never any guarantees with splits but you never know if you don’t try. Hopefully a nice Violet Blue Cleartail this year. That would be nice 🤞

We have been so busy this year and we decided to open our nest boxes a bit later than usual. Some we have opened now and others we will wait until September for the weather to warm up. It is usually our Lutino line that just can’t wait like this pair. A young pair that proved themselves last year with fertile eggs and hatch out babies but the young mother wasn’t successful in raising them. We are hoping this year she has the necessary experience. I believe it’s important to allow your birds to learn how to raise their own babies but unfortunately that sometimes means you lose a few. I’m sure these two will work it out as both birds parents are great parents. Let the breeding season begin with some fertile eggs already in the nest from our Lutino males. Note: this males is split Lutino

Well my new Xmas present works great. The operator on the other hand, well not so good yet. I definitely need to learn how to work my new tool better with its different chopping blades but I’ll get there after a few practice runs I’m sure
