Weather has been so rotten resident doggo Willow was feeling neglected so took the afternoon off to give her some exercise and spend quality time BUT she blew me off when the cyclists started their racing around Nook road. She races them up the fence line and is looking slightly exhausted 😂🐾

RSPCA Tasmania has succeeded in shutting down Tasmania’s biggest puppy farm, Tasmanian Labradoodles.

More than 250 labradoodles are now being surrendered to the RSPCA and financial help and loving homes are urgently needed.

The immediate and permanent closure of Tasmanian Labradoodles and surrender of all of its dogs was secured last Friday, in a landmark out of court Agreement.

RSPCA CEO Andrea Dawkins said this was an historic win for animal welfare in Tasmania, but the hard work wasn’t over yet.

“We have been fighting to close Tasmania’s largest puppy farm for around three years, and we’ve finally succeeded,” Ms Dawkins said.

“Now, the RSPCA needs urgent financial help to provide veterinary care, foster homes and ultimately adoption for more than 250 labradoodles currently at the property.

“Many of these dogs have never been in contact with a human, they will need so much attention and care before they are ready to be part of a loving family with the life they so deserve.

“This is unprecedented, it is expensive, and the RSPCA needs your urgent help.

“We expect it will cost at least $1,000 per dog to give them the vet checks, vaccinations, behavioural assistance, food and temporary rehoming – and this is before we understand if any of the dogs have serious conditions that require further attention.

“This is an urgent call out to anyone who can donate to the RSPCA to help us give this critical care to hundreds of labradoodles. No matter how small the donation, every dollar counts.

“We have set a goal to raise $300,000 to help us in providing the care, medical requirements and loving foster environments to set these labradoodles on their pathway to forever homes.

“We will also need foster homes and ultimately adoptions for every one of the 250 dogs.

“We’re asking Tasmanians to open their homes and hearts to these beautiful animals, that deserve a second chance at a loving life.

“Despite their rough start, they have an invincible love of humans. They are friendly and loving, with a gentle temperament that makes them the most ideal family pet.”

The RSPCA first brought 70 charges for over breeding against the owners of Tasmanian Labradoodles in early 2023.

The charges related to alleged overbreeding between April 2021 and February 2023, under the Animal Welfare (Dogs) Regulations 2016

A long and hard fought legal battle concluded on Friday, with the signing of an out of court Agreement that secured the puppy farm’s closure, and surrender of all of its dogs.

“I’d like to thank the Department of Natural Resources for their assistance with this long-running matter,” Ms Dawkins said. “This support included the provision of two vets for a general health check of dogs several weeks ago.”

The RSPCA Tasmania is also calling on the Tasmanian Government to urgently change to the Dog Regulations, to ensure that this can never happen again.

“The reality is that the laws have failed all of us,” Ms Dawkins said. “The existing law does nothing deter this from happening and nothing to penalise when it does.”

“Under the existing laws, the Tasmanian Labradoodle owners could have faced a maximum penalty of just $273,000, which is just a cost of doing business for a puppy farm with an estimated revenue of around $2 million.

“The laws must change. We cannot let a situation like this happen ever again.

“Tasmania needs laws that ban puppy farms, and we need mandatory registration, standards and conduct for breeding established.”

Percy 12 weeks post surgery IVDD. Percy loves a snuggle, cute as a button, but stubborn and likes to be in control! He has had a few weeks break from his hydro and it was a battle of the wills today. He eventually decided to walk the walk and even in the direction I asked him to😂

RECORD BREAKING PERFORMANCE!!
Last night Trio came for her fortnightly conditioning hydro session and I was absolutely gobsmacked. I have been working with Trio for approximately 12 months. Most dogs are tired after hydro but not our Trio, I can’t even get her to puff😂. In the video below Trio set a new clinic record going a whooping 7.78km per hour for 4 x 5 minute cycles. Still wasn’t exhibiting any accelerated respiration, mild temperature increase, moderate increase in circulation. Note Ali, Trio’s sibling checking she is ok❤️😃

We at h2o4doggos Canine Hydrotherapy are feeling so grateful to all of our wonderful patients who have shown kindness and understanding with the extraordinary delays that have occurred during our maintenance and renovations. It’s FINALLY coming together. We sincerely thank each one of you for your generosity and encouragement. Furnishing are being put back in and tanks being filled ready for reopening on 5th July. Looking forward to seeing all our doggos back into their rehab journeys.

Oh this little sweetheart ❤️ has had spinal surgery 5 weeks ago AND is terrified of water, what a challenging combination. The therapist’s saving grace was that Precious Percy absolutely loves cuddles and eventually he agreed to having a go at walking in this weirdo box filled with his arch enemy WATER!!!! Percy you are a brave little superstar we are so looking forward to you regaining the full and correct use of those hind legs. ⭐️🐾💫

Great session with Presley last night! She is working hard at not being anxious and nailed it doing a good solid 5 cycles of strut her stuff to bulk supportive muscle structure around her spine which has intervertebral disc disease in multiple regions. Note the lips licking as she anticipates the treat her dog mum is holding up🤣

New patient Ms Presley who has had 2 spinal surgeries in less than 12 months. We take time introducing doggos to hydrotherapy, most are anxious and can get overwhelmed. Presley has a good sniff and explore in this noisy environment filled with the scent of lots of other doggos and chemicals. Always light session this first time, more of familiarisation than ‘treatment’. Like many before her, Presley’s main motivation was dried liver 😂 Fantastic job Presley looking forward to seeing you again so we can build up some more supportive muscle.

🌟Indy,11yr female came to us for advanced osteoarthritis primarily on both hind legs. Below is a video of Indy on the 12th Feb this year and then a video of her treatment last night. Viewers will definitely be able to discern which is which. At the start of her hydro journey the therapist had to physically support her all the way through, now Indy just likes to have a leg either side just to keep her centred. Arthritis vs the power of warm and mobilising joints in hydro has improved Indy’s pain and ability to mobilise greatly improving her quality of life. ❤️ outstanding Achievement Indy

AND the aptly named Skipper who has spent the better part of 4 months with his left hind leg up in the air waiting until he was well enough for surgery because he had a nasty ulcer on his tail. This little Australian Silky terrier has a way to go with his rehab but he is making steady progress rebuilding his muscle and practising walking properly again.

Still on the theme of keeping our dogs warm during all seasons. Big shout out to Kellie Malone for the generous donation of these ‘dressing gowns’ to keep our patients warm and comfy after their hydro sessions. The water in the treadmill is maintained at a minimum of 30c ensuring muscles relax, increase their elasticity and thins blood to increase healing blood cells to injured areas. Frankie girl modelling for your viewing pleasure😊
