๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿพ Attention Pet Parents! ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿšจ

With tick season in full swing, it's more important than ever to stay vigilant! We're noticing a surge in tick cases, so knowing the signs is crucial to keep our furry companions safe!

Keep an eye out for symptoms of paralysis ticks in your pets:
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Persistent coughing or gagging
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Difficulty breathing or rapid panting
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Weakness or unsteady on legs
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Change in voice or excessive drooling
๐Ÿ•ท๏ธ Vomiting or regurgitation

If you spot these signs, ACT IMMEDIATELY:
1๏ธโƒฃ If you find a tick, safely remove the tick using fine-tipped tweezers or a tick remover (remember to bring the pulled tick into the vet for identification)
2๏ธโƒฃ Seek urgent veterinary assistance for further treatment.

Prevention is key:
๐ŸŒฟ Use vet-recommended tick preventatives consistently.
๐Ÿšซ Avoid known tick-infested areas or long grass during walks.

Remember to search your pet regularly for ticks, even if your pet is up to date with prevention!

Spread the word to keep our pets safe during this tick season! Share this post and keep a close watch on your furry pals for their well-being! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜บ๐Ÿ’š

Meet Lulu ๐ŸŒญ

This naughty little sausage managed to find her way into some ibuprofen (Nurofen) tablets.

Ibuprofen, whilst relatively safe in humans, can be extremely harmful to dogs. Ingestion can lead to severe symptoms including stomach ulcers, and kidney failure, and if left untreated, ingestion can be fatal.

Luckily, Lulu's owners brought her into our Animal Emergency Centre, where she was given an emetic to help remove any leftover tablets that may be left in the stomach. After this, Lulu spent a few days in the hospital with our team getting regular blood tests, and IV fluids to help flush her system, before being discharged home to rest.

Safe to say, Lulu has learned her lesson, and will be looking for an alternative snack next time!

This bundle of cuteness absolutely made our Noosa teams day! ๐Ÿฆ˜

This little joey presented to our Animal Emergency Centre after being found in a local backyard. After a quick check over, and many cuddles, the team reluctantly handed the little one across to the Eumundi wildlife centre for fostering.

A gentle reminder of how vulnerable our wild life are โ€ฆ.
This gorgeous young female koala came in to us last night after being attacked by a dog. We clipped and cleaned the wounds. Did x-rays to make sure nothing was broken. Gave pain relief, antibiotics, and warm fluids to keep her comfortable through the night. Our Canadian Vet Divya, NZ Emergency Nurse Tamara and South African Emergency nurse Alex were very excited to be up close to their first koala ever and even went foraging for some fresh eucalyptus leaves that she enjoyed snacking on. She's off to Eumundi wildlife carers for ongoing care ๐Ÿ’œ

Toad Toxicity.
With the rain forecast this week now is a good time for a reminder about the dangers of Toads with our pets. As the rains start falling, you will find Cane Toads rearing their ugly heads. Nothing grabs the attention of a curious kitty or pup like a jumping toad in the yard!

Toads excrete a milky white toxic from poisonous glands which spreads over their skin when threatened. Once a dog or cat mouths a toad - toxicity is very likely to occur. Toad toxins will cause cause toxicity. Symptoms can include increasing in severity depending on time and exposure:

*Reddening of the gums (brick red injected gums)
*Hyper-salivation (excessive salivation)
*Vomiting
*Weakness
*Difficulty breathing
*Body stiffness/spasms
*Heart arrhythmias
*Seizures
*Death

DO NOT flush your dogs mouth with a hose or pour water into their mouth/down their throat. This can cause further severe complications. Your dog can easily breathe back water and aspirate the water into their lungs which can be life threatening.
