Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road? To Find Help!

Last Friday, a brave little hen made headlines after attempting to cross a four-lane highway in peak traffic! 🚗🚛 Thanks to a few quick-thinking Good Samaritans, she was safely rescued and brought to the Animal Emergency Centre Gold Coast.

Our team quickly noticed signs of heat stroke - she was panting and lethargic - so we got to work with a cool foot bath, gentle fan, and close monitoring. Within minutes, she perked up, started chatting and enjoyed some much-needed TLC. 💛

By afternoon, this lucky hen was off to a loving foster home to start her next chapter. 🏡💚 A huge thank you to everyone who helped her reach safety - true heroes!

🔥 Remember: Even chickens can suffer from heatstroke in high temps. Keep your pets cool, shaded, and hydrated this summer.

☀️ Hydration hydration hydration!! Give your pet access to lots of water

☀️ Walk pets early in the morning or late in the afternoon and be extra careful with brachycephalic breeds

🌼 R U OK? 🌼

At AEC, we know the veterinary profession can be incredibly rewarding, but it also comes with unique challenges. Long hours, emotional cases, and the pressure to always give your best can take a toll on mental health. 💛

This week, our team is wearing bright and funky scrubs to spread smiles and remind everyone that checking in with each other matters.

❤️Asking a simple “Are you OK?” can make a huge difference.
🖤Listening with compassion can help lighten someone’s load.
💛 Reaching out for support is a sign of strength, not weakness.

Let’s stand together in support of veterinary mental health and encourage open, kind conversations—today and every day. 🐾

💬 To our colleagues, clients, and community—remember you’re never alone.
