Who remembers Dash, our regular blood donor🩸? Dash has saved several lives in the past couple of years, but last month it was Dash who presented with a life-threatening emergency. His pet-parent had caught him in a close encounter with a red-belly black snake.🐍 Unsure whether he had been bitten, he was rushed to the hospital where it was quickly confirmed that he had been bitten. Dash was treated with life-saving antivenom and made a full recovery.

The team was so shocked that a snake was out and about in the dead of winter, serving as a reminder for pet-parents to be vigilant all year round. Symptoms of snake envenomation can be delayed, so even if you think they are okay, you should always present to a veterinarian for examination and testing as prompt antivenom administration is essential.

🚨🚨🚨 Important Alert 🚨🚨🚨 This morning we had a patient present with confirmed parvovirus, and appeared to be part of a local outbreak suspected to be affecting several other dogs in Callala Bay.

Parvovirus is a deadly infection, highly infectious and can persist in the environment for several years. Dogs of any age can be affected and the disease is completely preventable. The only effective way to prevent infection is with vaccination. Immunity is not lifelong, and regular vaccination is required for ongoing protection.

If your dog is not up to date with vaccination, please get them updated as a matter of priority, especially if you reside in the Callala Bay Region.

Meet Lucy.
Lucy is Dr. Daniel's rescue French Bulldog. She is very affectionate and enjoys cuddles with the staff during her visits.

Lucy has a skin allergy that often causes her to lick her paws or develop itchiness. Fortunately, Dr. Daniel manages her condition with a combination of medications and medicated washes.
