Urgent Notice
We wish to advise that due to vet staff shortages, we will only be available via phone and email between Tuesday the 29th of April to Monday the 5th. The clinic will be closed with medication pickup available between 4-5pm at the clinic (weekdays). Medication will need to be ordered 24hrs prior to pickup.

During this period nurses we will remain available via the
phones and emails for support and bookings between 9am and 5pm on the weekdays.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and support.
Normal operations will resume on the 6th of may

This seagull has been given a second chance after having a fish hook removed from it's mouth. After rehabilitation by Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc, the gull will be released.

Contrary to common belief among fishermen, hooks don't "rust out". It is best to call wildlife rescue to have the hook removed prior to release.

Feline dental resoprtive disease is a painful condition which results in destruction of the root and/or crown of the teeth. When the crown of the tooth is destroyed, the pulp cavity of the tooth, which contains the sensitive nerves, are exposed to the oral environment. This allows invasion of bacteria into the root canal and subsequent severe pain.

Often, the signs of pain are subtle and are not noticed by pet parents, and the disease may not be visible to the naked eye. Dental x-rays are extremely important for complete oral assessment of cats. Full mouth dental x-rays are performed during every dental procedure at South Nowra Vets.

Dental checks are always free, so call or book online to make an appointment to find out whether your cat would benefit from a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment.

The clinic has seen a high number of tick paralysis cases in the past couple of months, and sadly several pets have passed away.

Keeping your pet safe is easy, with many excellent preventatives available. Wildlife carers presented this baby possum to the clinic for assessment after being found unresponsive and suffering from hypothermia.

It was quickly determined that the possum was hypoglycaemic (low blood sugar) and with IV fluid therapy and IV glucose, it quickly improved and enjoyed a helping of apple 🍎 before being discharged back into the care for rehabilitation.

Dr Daniel recently treated an echidna after being struck by a motorbike. There was an abrasion and small fracture of the beak so it was placed into care with Wildlife Rescue South Coast Inc for rehabilitation and will be released once the injuries are healed.

Brave little Cricket visited the clinic with a badly broken femur (thigh bone). Thankfully, Dr Daniel was able to operate and repair the fracture which is healing quickly.

Cricket was such a beautiful and loving little kitten and we are all relieved to see him on the mend 🦴🩹🐱
