It’s been TWENTY YEARS well over due! Think about what we didn’t have 20 years ago like social media and how our world has significantly changed since this legislation was adopted.

Pet owners, councils, veterinarians, rehoming organisations, and others are invited to share their feedback on the discussion paper by 4 May 2025 📅

This is your chance to enhance responsible pet ownership, ensuring the wellbeing of our furry friends, and keeping our communities safe 🐶🐱

We want your feedback on how we can:

✅ better manage cats
✅ prevent cats and dogs from entering pounds and rehoming organisations
✅ improve uptake of registration and desexing
✅ promote responsible pet ownership education and training.

Keep your eye on this Pawrents! It’s very exciting to see this digital registration via your Services NSW app get up and running. It appears they are now promoting it but this morning I’ve tried to link Diesel & Blue with no success, both MC numbers not recognized.
This will be industry changing when it’s operational and I’ll be encouraging all of our Orange Pawrents to get into it, but a little bit of an anticlimax for now. I’ll keep you posted!

Fantastic news was received today, the Minister for Local Govt, Ron Hoenig MP and his Dept. have released a discussion paper as the first steps towards a review of the Companion Animals Act (1998).

More than 20 years since this key community legislation was reviewed and updated. Therefore its time to have your say. Please share your views by the deadline of 4th May 2025. They make is super-simple with questions you can answer.

Maybe not as exponential in dogs but still horrific… please desex your dogs (and cats)

✂ Happy World Spay Day! ✂

Launched in 1995, World Spay Day is an annual campaign that aims to encourage people to save animal lives by spaying and neutering companion animals and feral cats.
De-sexing your pet can have benefits including but not limited to:
- Reducing frustration and roaming behaviors
- Eliminating risks of cancers of the reproductive organs
- Eliminating the risk of painful and life threatening infections of the reproductive organs
- Reduces fighting (and associated injuries)
- Reduces marking/spraying in males
- Eliminates unwanted/unplanned litters!
And best of all it reduces the number of animals in care through pounds and rescue organizations!

🐈‍⬛Did you know?
Female cats can have up to 3 litters every year.
Female kittens can become pregnant as young as 4 months old.

Current Annual Data estimates on shelter animals in Australia:
- Cats: about 180,000 are taken into care. Of these pets, more than 1 in 4 cats and are euthanised. Annually, this means around 50,000 cats are euthanised*.
- Dogs: about 210,000 are taken into care. Of these pets, more than 1 in 5 dogs and are euthanised. Annually, this means around 44,000 dogs are euthanised*.
In financial year 2024, the number of dogs euthanized by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) in Australia was around 2,840. The number of cats euthanized was just over 5,100 in the same year.
*Not all animals surrendered are able to be re-homed due to various reasons including health and behaviour and are included in these statistics.
While our local councils do an amazing job working with multiple rescue organisations to rehome every animal that is suitable, they are still inundated with unwanted pets.

Due to the amount of amazing clients who have their pets booked in already we are currently booked out for de-sexing approximately 4 months in advance! So book in ASAP to secure your spot!
