We first minded Chloe in 2018. She was a young, gorgeous, happy girl who just loved her walks and lots of couch cuddles.

Over the years we've minded her several times, we just adore each other ❀️. She is sooo excited whenever we go there πŸ•.

Sadly she now has to take meds for a heart condition but she's still a bouncy girl who loves going out and checking the neighbourhood, we just don't go as far - or as long.

We are meeting so many new pups but it was just fabulous seeing Jett first (I was so thrilled that I didn't take a pic of the handsome fellow πŸ•). He has recovered really well from his op and we are so pleased he has made such a great recovery.

There was also Morris the Staffy x,
Barry the Bloodhound pup (cute, playful and inquisitive), Monty the Spoodle and Ellie the Frenchie, Bobby the Cavoodle & Zoe the mini Schnauzer.

It's doggy heaven here! So many pups and lovely owners πŸ₯°. Even the parrots are super friendly, especially when food is involved πŸ˜‹πŸ˜„.

Parent-Sitting - Fun and Games with DadπŸ˜€

The 9-10 hours spent most days during Dad's hospital stay has been rewarding. He loves his private, unpaid daily nurse waiting on him hand and foot πŸ˜†. Caring for him has been a privilege and spending time together has been joyful (mostly 🀣πŸ₯΄).

Dad continues to teach me Bridge (confusing me, and himself, at times πŸ˜†). We play soccer and his jubilation in scoring a goal just lights up my day. He's pretty competitive, even at arm-wrestling 🀣. He's into sharing his food (but not his ice-cream) and loves to show off his Balancing Act 😬. And I gave him a haircut - not that he has much hair now πŸ˜„. And Dad was so brave when they put a scope and camera up his nose to see him swallow. Nothing was found so his chronic coughing is probably habitual πŸ˜•.

We are 2 Peas in a Pod ❀️

It wasn't all fun and games with just Dad though πŸ₯°. We got to catch up with my Aunty Cecilia and Michelle brought Uncle Vincent to visit (he was so funny showing me his card trick 🀣). Richard got to do his own thing (museums, exploring, tea expo) and over the 3 weeks in Sydney, we actually had a day together at the Sydney Uni Alumni Festival 🌞 πŸ™‚. And briefly caught up with Ant. Woo Hoo!!

So with lots of love and support from family and friends, we are doing OK πŸ™‚.

Sydney:

Dad was looking and breathing awful when I arrived so it was ring the ambulance or get him out of bed! I got him into the wheelchair for fresh air and then took him to the gym - what doesn't kill him makes him stronger - and it was great to see him look better, he always perks up when I arrive πŸ₯°

We arrived at Ryde Hospital with a referral from Dad's GP. He's had a cough for over a month and despite antibiotics (some really strong ones too), he wasn't better πŸ˜•.

The medical staff here has been absolutely fabulous. We were immediately triaged and Dad was able to get a bed in the ED. Then we had bloods and chest x-rays and Drs seeing Dad. So as well as finding out he has bronchiectasis, a lung infection and being weak and frail, he also had decreased kidney function 😰. The Drs were very understanding and Dr Kaine assured me Dad wasn't going to die as tears streamed down my face 😭.

The next morning Mum & I gave Dad a shower, with much effort. Lucky Dr Kain arrived as we were finishing and realised we were struggling physically. Dad then got a transfer to a high dependency area until he had sufficiently recovered where a nurse watches over 4 beds 24/7. They were wonderful πŸ₯°.

Dad was getting IV antibiotics (one of the strongest ones in the hospital) and IV fluids. They did a scan of his bladder and the lung specialist came to explain the situation. Dad also had a physio to assess his mobility. He had lovely, friendly, dedicated nurses who put Dad's comfort first. One nurse picked up that his cough may also be due to dysphagia so a speech therapist came and he was on 'moderately thick' fluids for a while. They even put a scope up his nose and a camera observed his swallowing. He was fine, so his cough is either from silent reflux or hypersensitivity (there is now alot of yelling to tell him to swallow - not cough!). A dietician was also assigned as Dad was losing weight. The cardiologist also came for a checkup (lucky he worked at Ryde Hospital!). We are just so grateful.

We also had a social worker to help us navigate the path to Aged Care. Dad's mobility has deteriorated to a point where he is a falls risk, even with all the railings and aids at home.

I am learning that Dad gets tired and it is normal. I am learning that Dementia means he can't remember and constant reminders are necessary, without the yelling. I am seeing how Dad is so patient with my frustration and how much he loves me and tries to please me. He probably does things beyond his capability just because I ask. And I ask too much because I want him back. It's been an emotional rollercoaster but it's been a blessing to have such great support from friends and family who have been on this path. Seeing Dad improve has been wonderful and somehow might make the sense of sadness/guilt/indecision more bearable knowing he will be safe and well looked after by professionals. There is relief that we found a lovely place, seems more like a hotel! We hope that he will embrace this next chapter.

I look forward to helping him transition in his first few weeks, he has been my greatest source of guidance, inspiration and unconditional love. I am so lucky to have had him to his 92nd year. I hope he with thrive at Arcare, not just survive.

Winston is a lovely and loveable Labrador - and the time spent with him just flew. He's a bit subdued at the moment as he was awaiting surgery on his ACL, but he enjoyed slowly sniffing around the park and marking anything of interest (which was almost everything πŸ˜†). Initially he’d be so excited to see us and would grab his lead for walkies 🀣. Then he would enjoy hugs, pats, brushing and cuddles - we just adored him 😊.

We met Winston a few years back at the dog park. He was a big, gorgeous, active pup and we loved how he wanted to befriend every dog and everyone, he still does πŸ₯°. We liked him (and his owner) from the start and we were so happy to meet up with them again.

We wish Winston all the best with his upcoming surgery and look forward to his jovial, happy, active self once he has fully recovered 🐢

After farewelling Gracie & Percy we decided to drop in on friends on the way home.

Was great to see both Leanne and Lloyd this time. Their dog, Ruby, is a lovely pooch. She’s a young, well behaved Beagle x Cattle dog who loves fetching. Apparently she has slowed down a lot since eating rat bait 😬, but thank goodness she’s ok now πŸ₯°.

Barry wasn’t there when we dropped in but Roger was home to greet us. He has aged but he’s still a wonderful loyal and faithful companion. He’d be over 15 now 🐢.

Ginny and Jim weren’t home so we wandered around their beautiful garden and admired their stunning roses.

We eventually had lunch at 4.45pm at the Dubbo Japanese Garden. Just driving Murphy feels like we are on holidays - although now his blinker lights are playing up πŸ˜³β€¦.

Once Percy recognised us, he tore across the backyard and threw himself at the gate. He was so excited. Funny little man 🐢.

He knew the drill: wash, walk, clip, walk. This time he accidentally fell into the river so he got another wash πŸ˜†.

Such a happy fellow and it was great to see Gracie. She has lost alot of weight but is in good spirits 😍.

And who said you couldn’t teach an old dog new tricks! Well getting Percy to use the ramp was a cinch. Within 30 mins he was walking up and down. Within 3 days he was running up the ramp! He's such a clever boy πŸ•, just got to know what motivates him πŸ€— .

We went to the cemetery and Percy was beside himself with all the new smells. It was nice to visit Sam and his picture always bring back happy memories of our holiday to Coffs Harbour with him and Gracie (thank you Cheryl & Steve πŸ₯°).

Spring is glorious at Nyngan, funny seeing a P*e Wee swooping Percy (who didn’t have a care in the world). We also got a spectacular sunset.

It was a very busy few days but lovely to see Gracie - and Mabel (and eat the best home-made mulberry pie with whipped cream πŸ˜‹). Infact my cooking skills has rubbed off on Gracie. Her fluffy ginger kisses turn out hard and unrisen 😬. It technically wasn't my fault - the stove was faulty πŸ€”. Mabel did give me some no-bake recipes though πŸ˜†... Maybe a hint… 🀣

Not only are we lucky to hang with Ginger and Holly in their lovely home, but they also have a beautiful garden.

We went with Allan to the Culburra Festival, caught up with Adele & Marlie, saw dolphins at Booderee National Park, Whales at Culburra Beach / Sussex Inlet Surf Life Saving Club /Brookes Lookout / Narrawallee / Warden Head, Stingrays at Woollamia boat ramp and Echindas in the National Parks.

We cycled around new and interesting places now that we have a great bike carrier. We took the bikes as far north as Shell Harbour and as far south as Burrill Lake. There are great cycle paths here.

We played tennis with the gang and just love the friends we have made 😊. Had a paddle up Currambene Creek and walks to Minnamurra Falls (steep) and Carrington Falls (easy).

My Godson, Thomas, is now all grown up and works closeby so it was just wonderful to catch up with him. It didn't seem that long ago that he was born!

Jervis Bay really is a beautiful area 😍, although the view at Sublime Point can be pretty spectacular also.

We are so lucky that Holly & Ginger's paw-parents ask us back to mind their girls πŸ₯°.

We always have a great time and love that so many people admire them. They are so happy on their walks (grooming not so much 😟, but they are very good to tolerate it πŸ™‚). So they look gorgeous/beautiful/cute/lovely when they go out (as many have told us). Plus people are surprised they are so soft ☺️. Little kids just love the doggies and wrap their arms around their necks and bodies 😍, it’s wonderful to see children so comfortable with dogs.

All the locals know the girls and love stopping us for a chat. Our tennis friends love seeing the girls also πŸ₯°.

Being our 5th time here (did I mention how lucky we are 😍), we know the girls well enough to trust them off lead- and they loved, loved, loved it. They are just so happy and the look on Ginger's face is like all her Christmases have come at once. It makes my heart sing πŸ₯° . They are such happy pups 🐢🐢

Spring flowers:

Lots of flowers along the bush walk in Berowra NP.

We have always wanted to go the the Native Flora Reserve in Gilgandra. We came at the perfect time and the flowers were fabulous.

Goobang National Park had lovely flowers also. And great views from the lookouts.

Plants still flowering in late spring at Booderee Botanic Gardens.

And Shoalhaven Heads Native Botanic Garden was lovely, peaceful and had a delightful range of plants

It’s really lovely in Spring 🌸🌼🌞

Murphy had a fabulous time also πŸ˜„.

He was also really considerate and waited until the trip home to blow a tyre 😬! Thankfully it was a back one and I was able to pull off quick, as there was an oncoming truck. And I’d only driven 30km for the whole week when we just swapped drivers in Wellington! Even though it was dark, we were grateful that it wasn’t raining, freezing or on a dusty gravel road - and didn't need to find a camp area for the night and set up in the dark... 😳

An exciting finish to a great trip. Thanks Murphy…

Normally we are rushing through the towns of Coonamble, Gulargumbone and Gilgandra to get to a destination but this time we had time to stop - and admire all the great artwork.

We met Scruffy along the way and she stole my heart in minutes. She is a Long Haired Jack Russell, friendly, happy and just loves a scratch and tummy rub. She was soooooo cute ❀️.

Artesian Bore Baths Trip #2

Gracie flew back from Melbourne with Cathy after a successful operation to remove bowel cancer. Such a relief and so good to catch up with them both in Dubbo.

Despite having lots to do at home, Murphy beckoned us to go camping. It didn’t take Richard long to decide on the spur of the moment trip πŸ˜„. House work, washing, gardening and tidying up can wait…

We went to Walgett and Lightning Ridge again, but our destination was the brand new bore bath at Collarenabri. It was fabulous!

Walgett had an interesting cemetery. Jimmy Little is buried there and his mural is painted on the silo in town.

Lightning Ridge had castles and mines and lookouts. Richard also tried his luck at noodling.

Collarenabri had friendly locals, scar trees and an Aboriginal Cemetery.

And emus were abundant, the baby chicks with their stripes are so very cute πŸ₯°.

We had a great time (again), even better as Richard's toe had healed and he could get into the water 😊.

Tassel

Ryan walks a Dachshund called Tassel. We had fun walking her too, but she's quite embarrassing when she barks and snaps at other dogs. I'm sure we could make her more social, but it would take more than one walk... πŸ˜„

She is rather cute though 🐢

The Central Coast is a beautiful spot and we had perfect weather when minding Nala.

The coastline was spectacular, the bay was beautiful and there was a great cycle path between Umina Beach and East Gosford.

We had a great time going to places where I had grown up in the 80s, the changes to the Central Coast has been phenomenal.

There was also the Nougat and Chocolate Factory, Edogawa (Japanese) Commemorative Garden and Gosford Regional Gallery. Even went back to my old Highschool (40 year reunion this year 😳, time has flown 😊). And caught up with highschool teachers from St Joseph's and St Leo's πŸ˜€.

We had a fabulous time exploring and loved coming home to relax with Nala 😻. She's such a adorable cat πŸ₯°.

We also drove along the Old Pacific Highway, stopping at Lookouts along the way.

And I grab every opportunity to visit my parents ❀️

Such a fabulous week.

For my Birthday I took Richard to Bouddi National Park and Box Head. It was a lovely day and he got me lots of flowers πŸ™‚.

The huge winds was exhilarating, although I can understand why people don’t bushwalk along the coast during these times. The possibility of a tree falling on us or us being blown off the cliff was quite real. It was fun though, the force of nature is incredible!

Spring is in the air and the male Bush Turkeys were out to impress. We passed an Echidna on the track also.

Dinner with my brother, Ryan, was fun. We ate way too much pizza!

Nala was a total delight to mind. We expected an anxious cat by conversations with her lovely owner, but instead we discovered an affectionate, snuggly puss who followed us around like a dog! Richard is a cat whisperer and Nala just adored him - she preferred Richard's lap to mine 😺.

She really was very, very sweet and within a day we were smitten πŸ₯°. She has a soft, contented purr and is a big fluff ball. She only liked playing with string so pet toys for her was cheap πŸ˜„. Nala was such a darling, we should mind more cats as they can have such wonderful, loveable personalities also 😊.

Family & Friends

Caught up with my cousin Michelle in Sydney. Uncle Vincent lives with them now, he wants to grow his own veggies and have his own little farm - in Michelle’s backyard 🀣. She is very patient πŸ₯°.

Great seeing Cheryl and Steve (and Benji & Miffy). And not having our car break-down on their doorstep 😳. But there’s always next time πŸ˜†.

Lucky Kathy and Gerard were home on our way back. We love seeing this couple.

Nice to catch up with Norma and Ric and Mel back in Orange - and Quincy of course 🐢

Great to have family who we choose as friends and friends who feel more like family ❀️
