For a short time Boehringer Ingelheim is offering Central West Equine clients a limited number of free ACTH tests for horses with suspected Cushing disease.

Cushing’s is a very manageable disease and correct treatment can make a huge difference to your horse’s health and quality of life.

The ACTH test is the gold standard test for Cushing’s disease and is an expensive test, so this offer is well worth considering.

Last night we had dinner to farewell Dr Amber Davis. We wish Amber all the best in her new role at the Department of Agriculture! We are very sad to see her leave as we are sure all our clients are too. Her smiling face, hard work and dedication to all our horse patients will be sorely missed.

💡 By using light to rapidly transition from short days to long days we can stimulate early reproductive activity and ovulation in our mares.

💡 For the average mare, it takes 70 days from initiation of Long Day light treatment to the first ovulation of the season.

💡 Begin Long Day light therapy no later than July 1st to ensure your mares are ready when the breeding sheds open.

Monday guessing game 😁 Who can tell us what we’re doing here?? Ok, enough suspense. So this is called flushing the epididymis. This example is a horse being castrated as not needed as a stallion but still wanting to keep some sperm for the future. We geld him normally but instead of throwing the testes out we get the semen out of the testes and freeze what’s flushed out. Very cool and a great way to protect the bloodlines. Something we offer here. This can also be done if the colt or stallion has just died.

Hello Monday!!! Let’s start the day with some recip dentals. Any new girls to the program we welcome them with a CWE pamper session including; - Dental - brand - worm count, yummy paste if needed. - and they have their nails done( farrier) Lucky ponies!!!
