It’s time for Dr Dave to pass the baton to Dr Sin!

After 23 years as part owner of Snowy River Vet Clinic, it’s time for Dr Dave to brush up his back seat driving skills as Dr Sin takes the wheel.

Orbost is incredibly fortunate to have a vet with Dr Sin’s skill, commitment and passion choosing to live and invest in our community.

Dave has put his all into the clinic over the last 23 years and is proud of the legacy that he is handing on to the next veterinary generation. Many thanks to the staff and clients who have helped us along the journey to get the clinic to where it is at today.

Keep your eye’s open for a new look and new name for the practice!

As with the last few years, we will be open for normal business on Australia Day, Thursday 26th of January.
I personally believe that we should be celebrating our great country on a day that isn't associated with the dispossession of the aboriginal people from their traditional land.
Changing the date of Australia Day will help to acknowledge the changes that were made to First Nation People that started many years ago and has ongoing effects today.
Our staff have been given a choice to have the day off or come to work. Each have made their own choice.
If you need anything from us on Thursday, we will be open to serve you.

Information and assets to help of Australia Day - Let's find a date everyone can celebrate.

PARALYSIS TICK ANTI SERUM SHORTAGE!

The wet and warm(er) weather has brought out paralysis ticks in record numbers all up the east coast of Australia, and East Gippsland is no exception. Lots of ticks = lots of sick dogs and cats= lots of demand on tick antiserum.

As a result Snowy River Vets, like all other clinics in impacted areas has much lower stocks of antiserum on hand and is battling to get in more supplies.

Tick antiserum is harvested from dogs that have been made hyper immune to ticks - it can't be manufactured in a lab, so replenishing supplies is SLOW.

So now more than ever it is super important to PREVENT your dog developing tick paralysis.

* Make sure quality anti tick treatments are kept up to date.
* Be on the lookout for early signs of tick paralysis, and seek treatment straight away. Early signs can include a wobbly walk, vomiting / cough / retch or a change in bark or meow.
* Coastal and near coastal areas, 'rainforest' gullies and places that wildlife pass through are tick 'hot spots' - be particularly careful if your pets have been in these places.

Sometimes life gets way too busy, and you've gotta find a way to chill out!

Snowy River Vets has to change the way we manage our after hours emergencies: Dr Dave and Dr Sin have been working at 150% for a bit too long, as the workload at the clinic has dramatically increased in the last couple of years. We need to give them more down time.

From now on, when the clinic is closed our phone will be diverted to Vet Check 24/7, a dedicated emergency vet phone answering service. Your call will be answered by a qualified vet nurse. Depending on the problem, they will either
* Contact a vet on call to see your animal
* Offer you an online vet consultation with a Vet Check 24/ 7 vet, for a fee
* Offer you general advice.

Vets from our clinic will be available to see emergency cases before 9.30 pm, and after 6.30 am. Between 9.30 pm and 6.30 am you will be referred to the closest after hours vet service, which will most likely be Main St Bairnsdale.
