🩺🐾 Let’s Talk Animal First Aid Kits! 🐾🩺

I don’t think we’ve ever done a post on animal first aid kits before, but when you have as many four-legged friends as we do at Sage Stables, having an adequate and up-to-date first aid kit is absolutely crucial! I recently took the time to go through and update our kits, replacing all the essentials to make sure we're prepared for any situation.

Here are some basics that are essential for any animal first aid kit:

Antiseptic solution: For cleaning wounds and preventing infection.
Sterile gauze and bandages: For wrapping wounds and providing support.
Scissors and tweezers: Handy for cutting bandages and removing foreign objects.
Thermometer: To monitor your animal’s temperature in case of illness.
Gloves: To ensure you’re handling wounds or administering care safely and hygienically.
Saline solution: For cleaning eyes, wounds, or flushing debris.
Wound spray or ointment: To promote healing and protect wounds.
Vet wrap or cohesive bandages: For secure and flexible bandaging.
Emergency contact list: Including your vet’s number and other important contacts.

Keeping your first aid kit well-stocked and regularly updated is key to being prepared for those unexpected moments. Remember, having the right supplies on hand can make a huge difference in managing minor injuries or stabilising your animal until professional help arrives.

🐐🎉 New Arrivals Alert! 🎉🐐

We are beyond excited to announce that our patience has finally paid off—we have new babies at Sage Stables! 🥳 We are thrilled to share the news of the safe delivery of three adorable baby goats so far! 🐐❤️

While we’re still waiting for a few more mums to give birth, we couldn’t be happier with our latest bundles of joy. Watching these little ones take their first steps and explore their new world has brought so much joy to the farm!

🌸 Introducing Misty! 🌸

We are so excited to welcome Misty to our Sage Stables family! Misty is a beautiful 15.2hh Clydie cross who has been purchased as a personal horse for me, especially after the heartbreaking loss of Flynn. She’s around 4 years old and in foal, which is an exciting new chapter for us! 🐴💕

You'll be seeing Misty around the farm a lot, and we can't wait to share her journey with you all. We have Cannibal Creek Equine coming out soon to confirm her pregnancy, and we’ll keep everyone updated on her progress and adventures here at Sage Stables.

Misty has had approximately 10 rides before joining us, so over the coming months, Beth will continue to gently break her in and introduce her to all the fun and craziness that happens around here. Despite being new to everything, she hasn’t disappointed us one bit and is as sweet as pie! 🥧❤️

We’re thrilled to have Misty as part of our family and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her here with us. Stay tuned for more updates on her journey!

We're thrilled to introduce the newest member of our Sage Stables family, Soda! 🐴❤️ This sweet boy made a massive journey all the way from NSW to join our team of four-legged friends. He's been settling in beautifully and has already been gelded!

We’re excited to watch his friendship with Benji blossom and see how they grow together. With Soda standing at a perfect 11 hands, he's just the right size for our riding school shenanigans! 🐾🌟

🐾🐴 Benjamin Button Update: Our Resident Mischief Maker is Back! 🐴🐾

We’re thrilled to share that Benjamin Button, our beloved donkey, has made a full recovery from his first surgery and is back to his old self—maybe even more energetic than before! Benji is in great spirits and has taken to running around the farm, keeping everyone on their toes with his antics. 🤪

All this little guy wants is attention and pats, and he’s not shy about letting you know! Whether he’s sneaking up for a cuddle or playfully "terrorizing" the team, Benji brings endless entertainment and joy to Sage Stables. He’s a true character who never fails to put a smile on our faces.

We’re so happy to have Benji back to his mischievous self, and we know he’ll continue to be the heart and soul of our stables. Come by and say hello if you’re in the area—Benji would love the attention!

We had a special visitor at Sage Stables recently—Harley, a stunning Brumby from Equine Perceptions! Harley and his trainer, Sarah, are preparing to compete in the 2024 Brumby Challenge at Equitana, and we’re thrilled to be a part of his journey.

During his visit, Harley couldn’t resist testing out our premium roundyard sand with a good roll—he certainly knows how to enjoy himself in style! 🛁💨

We’re thrilled to introduce the newest members of the Sage Stables family—these adorable orphaned baby lambs! At just two weeks old, they’ve come to live with us, and we couldn’t be more excited to give them the love and care they deserve.

🌿🐴 Understanding and Checking for Abscesses in Your Horse's Hoof 🐴🌿

At Sage Stables, we take every aspect of our horses' health seriously, right down to their hooves. In today's post, we're focusing on something that every horse owner should be aware of: hoof abscesses.

An abscess in a horse's hoof is a painful condition caused by an infection, often due to bacteria getting trapped inside the hoof. It can cause sudden and severe lameness, but with the right care, it can be managed effectively.

Here’s what to look out for:

Lameness: Your horse may show sudden and intense lameness, often on one leg.
Heat: The affected hoof may feel warmer than usual.
Swelling: There could be swelling around the coronary band or the leg.
Pulsing: You might feel a stronger pulse in the affected leg.

If you suspect an abscess, it’s essential to consult with your farrier or veterinarian. Early detection and proper care can make a significant difference in your horse's recovery. We caught Mr. Tarzan in action during a little break between clients, and we couldn’t resist sharing this fun moment with you all! Tarzan, our charming and cheeky boy, decided to sneak up on us while we were enjoying some lunch.

As it turns out, Tarzan is quite the connoisseur when it comes to snacks! He’s a big fan of lollies and hot chips, and he’s always on the lookout for any tasty treats that might come his way. His sneaky little moves and eager eyes are hard to resist—he’s definitely a master at getting those extra goodies!

We love these light-hearted moments with our horses. They bring so much joy and character to our days, and it’s always a delight to see their playful side.

Look at Bindi and Mikah Soar! 🐴✨

We’re thrilled to share this fantastic moment with you! A big part of what we do here at Sage Stables is continuously further educate and school our horses behind the scenes. Our goal is to ensure they can be the best school horses for our clients while also enjoying themselves.

Here’s one of Bindi’s first times jumping properly with Mikah guiding her over with excellent positioning and soft hands. Miss Bindi is truly a pocket rocket pony, and she’s showing off her incredible energy and enthusiasm for jumping!

We’re so proud of how far Bindi has come and grateful for Mikah’s skillful guidance. Bindi deserves the best, and we’re excited to see her continue to shine and grow in her jumping abilities.

A Lovely Day for a Trail Ride! 🌳🐴

What a beautiful day for a trail ride at Sage Stables! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and our horses are ready to explore the great outdoors. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of a gentle breeze as you ride through the trails.

Here’s a fun horsey fact to add a little extra sparkle to your day: Did you know that horses can sleep both lying down and standing up? They have a unique system of "stay apparatus" in their legs that allows them to lock their legs and relax while standing. This way, they can get their rest while still being ready to move if needed.

A Day in the Life of Max the Pony 🐴💆‍♂️

Hi everyone, it’s Max here! I was having a lovely day in my paddock, soaking up the sunshine and enjoying some peaceful grazing, when I spotted my favorite person rolling up. Yep, you guessed it—it was Nat from Willow Tree Equine, here to give me my routine massage. It’s my absolute favorite part of my upkeep routine! 🌞

My mum was quick enough to snap a picture so I could share this moment with all of you. I’ve got to say, I’m feeling pretty pampered and relaxed right now.

Introducing Our New School Horse, Riya! 🐴💫

We’re thrilled to introduce Riya, our new school horse at Sage Stables! Riya is a 6-year-old unraced Thoroughbred who was trained by Sarah over at Equine Perceptions.

Riya is a beautiful little mare who gives her all in everything she does. While she still has plenty to learn, her enthusiasm for what we do is truly invaluable. We’re excited to watch her grow and develop with us, and we’re confident she’ll become a cherished part of our riding school.

We’re excited to share an update on our brumby, Kye, also known as Kyanite! Kye is currently being broken in by Beth, and we couldn’t be more thrilled with his progress.

One thing we’re super passionate about here at Sage Stables is desensitisation. Our unicorns travel far and wide and find themselves in all kinds of scenarios, so we make sure they’re equipped to handle everything with ease.

Update on Our Beloved Rosie! 🐴❤️

We wanted to share an exciting update on our beloved Clydie X, Rosie! She is currently over with Sarah at Equine Perceptions being broken in, and we absolutely love all of the updates we’ve been receiving. We’re eagerly looking forward to when Rosie comes back to Sage Stables.

Once she has been broken in, Rosie will be a personal riding horse for six months. After that, we hope to integrate her into our riding school. Rosie is an extremely sensitive horse, and we deeply appreciate Sarah’s approach to her training. Sarah’s understanding of Rosie’s past and her thoughtful consideration for Rosie’s future are truly invaluable.

Horses for Sale at Sage Stables 🐴❤️

We wanted to give our clients the first opportunity to find the perfect horse! We will be selling four of our beloved horses, ranging from 9h to 17h.

Three of these wonderful horses are beginner-friendly, perfect for new riders or those looking for a gentle companion. The fourth horse is suited to a competitive home, ideal for show jumping or cross-country enthusiasts.

Each horse comes with their own gear (some more than others), tailored to their specific needs. They have all been saddle-fitted, had their teeth done recently, and are up-to-date on farrier and massage care.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring home a fantastic horse from Sage Stables. Due to no fault of their own, it is extremely difficult for a horse to fit into what we do here and be able to withstand multiple riders with different needs. We are quietly in the works of changing up what we do. These horses for sale have been absolutely amazing and are part of our family; however, we feel they will bring so much joy to their next person as well. I have finally come to the conclusion that I can’t hoard all of the unicorns.

We’ll have more detailed information available soon, but we wanted to put the feelers out to our clients first as we want only the best homes for them. If you’re interested or have any questions, please reach out to us.

Flashback to Our Last School Holidays! 🌟

During the last school holidays, we had an exciting event that left two of our Minecraft-obsessed clients absolutely thrilled. Prior to the break, our inventive staff brainstormed how we could combine the best of both worlds: Minecraft and horses. And this is what we came up with!

Our ponies were more than happy to play along, and the results were amazing. The kids got to experience a unique blend of their favorite game and their love for horses, making their holidays truly unforgettable.

Meet Benjamin Button (Benji or Ben) 🐾

Hello, Sage Stables family! We’re excited to kick off a series of introductions with a very special new member of our family. Today, we’re thrilled to introduce Benjamin Button, affectionately known as Benji or Ben.

Benji is a remarkable little donkey who was surrendered to us due to his cleft palate. He wasn’t coping all too well out in the big wide world with his mumma, but fortunately for us here at Sage Stables, we couldn’t say no to taking on this challenge! Our amazing team of vets over at Gembrook performed life-saving cleft palate surgery on Ben, and we’re happy to report that he is now on the mend.

Ben has been weaned off milk and is still putting on weight, finally growing in size! He’s a fighter and a testament to the resilience we value so much here at Sage Stables. We believe everything happens for a reason, and uncannily enough, Ben shares the same birthday as Beth!

You only get one shot at instilling trust and confidence right from the start🥳 📸 pictured is Taryn and Sebastian. something we love to do when educating a horse under saddle is find time for these moments. Find time to connect, take things slowly and remind them not every interaction has to be hard work, demanding or requiring a lot of thought. Seb is an absolutely brilliant pony, and has has some basics established from a previous home. We are taking it back to the start with him here, to create that bond and trust for every step.
