⚠️WE ARE OPEN⚠️
As cyclone Alfred approaches, we are doing everything possible to ensure our hospitals at Carrara, Jindalee and Underwood (including Cat Specialist Services) remain open to care for your pets, injured wildlife and strays.
We are aware that a number of referring veterinary practices are closing. We are here to support those practices and would like to reassure you that we will provide urgent care for your patients during this time.
In order to effectively triage patients, we ask you to please call ahead, where possible. However, no appointment is necessary for emergencies. Any elective procedures will be rescheduled, with urgent/emergency cases prioritised.
Our colleagues from (who are located within our Carrara, Jindalee and Underwood hospitals) will also remain open. Working in partnership with , we will (as always) provide continuity of care, with round-the-clock treatment available for patients.
Our top priority is the health and safety of our patients, their families and our team. Please take the necessary steps to secure your pets, keep a pet safety kit on hand, including any necessary medications and have an evacuation plan in place.
Wishing everyone a safe week ahead.

A Fond Farewell to Dr. Pauline

After seven incredible years of dedication and care at Park Ridge Animal Hospital, Dr. Pauline Pierson will be finishing her time with us this Friday. While we are heartbroken to see her go, we couldn’t let this moment pass without expressing our deepest gratitude for everything she has contributed—not only to our team but also to the pets and families in our community.

Pauline’s passion, enthusiasm, and boundless energy have been truly inspiring. She quickly became a trusted leader in our hospital, embodying both kindness and compassion—beautiful inside and out. Her dedication to innovation has helped shape the high standards of care we uphold today, leaving a lasting impact on both our team and our patients. And of course, we’ll never forget her legendary staff presentations, which kept us both informed and entertained!

Though we will miss Pauline dearly, we are also incredibly excited for the new opportunities that await her. If you see her in the clinic over the next couple of days, please take a moment to share your well wishes.

Pauline, we are beyond grateful for your years of expertise, dedication, and kindness. You have helped us grow, both as a team and as individuals, and your presence will be deeply missed. Wishing you all the best in your next adventure!

Meet the Staff Monday

Hey, I’m Sarah! I’m one of the animal attendants here at Park Ridge Animal Hospital, and I’ve been part of the team for two years. I was incredibly lucky to begin my Certificate II in Animal Studies back in Year 11, and since then, I’ve successfully completed it. For the past eight months, I’ve been working towards my Certificate IV to become a qualified veterinary nurse. Lately, I’ve developed a strong interest in medical nursing, and I can’t wait to dive deeper into that part of my studies!

Caring for sick and injured animals has been my passion from a very young age, and I’m grateful to be learning and growing in this field every day at Park Ridge Animal Hospital.

One of the best parts of my job? Puppy and kitten cuddles! Nothing brightens my day more—especially if it’s a tiny Chihuahua pup!

At home, I have two adorable cats, Kitty and Boss, who have just turned one, and a not-so-little doggo named Max, who is six years old. Surprisingly, they all get along really well and absolutely love each other—and I love them just as much!

When I’m not at work or studying, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, friends, or partner, shopping, enjoying the beach, or painting.

Cody's Journey – Who Needs a Spleen Anyway?

We were thrilled to welcome Cody and his owner, Sharon, back this week for his final post-operative checkup! During his hospital stay, our team fell head over heels for his sweet temperament and those irresistible big brown eyes.

Cody first came to us about two weeks ago after a couple of days of barely eating. Concerned, we ran routine blood tests, an abdominal ultrasound, and thoracic radiographs—only to discover a 10cm bleeding mass in his spleen. The poor guy was pale and lethargic, and at that point, we didn’t yet know whether the mass was benign or a more aggressive type of cancer.

Throughout Cody’s journey, Sharon has been an incredible advocate for her beloved boy. We initially scheduled his splenectomy for the next day, but concerns arose when his platelet count dropped dangerously low, his blood clotting ability declined, and he developed brown-colored urine—signs of red blood cell breakdown. Given these risks, we recommended a specialist assessment at the Animal Referral Hospital in Brisbane. The ARH team determined that, while surgery carried some risks, it was still the best course of action. With unwavering dedication, Sharon brought Cody back to us, and the following day, our team successfully performed his splenectomy.

Cody has been nothing short of amazing throughout his recovery. We couldn’t be happier to share that his pathology results confirmed the mass was a benign splenic nodular hyperplasia with haematoma—meaning the surgery was curative!

A huge congratulations to Sharon for her steadfast love and commitment, and a heartfelt shoutout to our skilled medical and surgical team for their thorough work. Here’s to a happy, healthy, and spleen-free life for Cody!

Meet the Staff Monday

Hey, I’m Nat! I'm a qualified veterinary nurse with four years of experience, two of which have been spent at PRAH. Before joining this wonderful team, I worked in emergency care, and through that experience, I developed a real passion for helping animals in need. Looking after your pets and making sure they’re healthy, safe, and loved is the best job anyone can have!

At the clinic, I’m known as the go-to person for lifting dogs and moving heavy objects, but I also have a heart of gold and love to give my patients big cuddles when they’re stressed or unwell. I aim to be the perfect balance between strength and kindness!

I share my life with two beautiful fur babies, Finch and Lynx, both of whom I adopted as strays from veterinary clinics over the years!

Outside of work, you'll find me at the gym or travelling interstate to compete in Strongman competitions. Over the past 3 years I have developed my passion for Strongman training, and I am currently working towards competing at an international level. My training helps keep me in top shape physically and mentally - skills I can put to good use when handling patients of all sizes.

I’m excited to meet you and your pets, and I’ll always be here to provide that extra bit of love and care. Feel free to say hi next time you’re in! 😊

IMPORTANT : ACTION MAY BE NEEDED TO PROTECT YOUR PET'S MICROCHIP REGISTRATION

We have received an Australian Veterinary Association press release regarding the uncertain future of the microchip registry HomeSafeID.

While HomeSafeID is not in liquidation, its related company, PET ELECTRONIC TAGS (P.E.T.S) PTY LTD, is. Both share the same sole director, who is currently unreachable. The HomeSafeID website (homesafeid.com) remains online but may go offline at any time. The company is unresponsive to calls and emails, and new registrations or transfers may not be processed.

Park Ridge Animal Hospital and Browns Plains Veterinary Surgery have never been affiliated with HomeSafeID. However, some of our patients may be registered with them if their microchip was implanted elsewhere or if they were adopted through RSPCA or Pet Rescue.

What You Need to Do:
✅ Check your pet’s microchip details at petaddress.com.au
✅ Update any outdated information
✅ If your pet is registered with HomeSafeID, transfer their details to another database.
Australasian Animal Registry, Central Animal Records, and Global Microchip Animal Registry all have dedicated website links to assist HomeSafeID customers.

If you are unsure of your pet’s microchip number or need help accessing the PetAddress website, our Customer Care Team is happy to assist. Our priority is ensuring your pet’s microchip details are accurate and accessible if they ever go missing. Please don’t hesitate to reach out—we’re here to help!

The Importance of Regular Checkups for a Long, Active and Healthy Life

Just like humans, pets benefit greatly from routine checkups to ensure they stay happy and healthy. Regular exams allow us to catch potential health issues early, provide preventive care, and tailor wellness plans to your pet’s specific needs. From vaccinations and parasite prevention to dental care and nutritional guidance, these visits play a crucial role in their overall well-being.

At PRAH, we recommend wellness checkups every six months for middle-aged, healthy pets. For younger animals, seniors, and those with specific health concerns, we tailor checkup schedules to their individual needs, ensuring they receive the best possible care.
