After a busy Elvis week and then closing that off. I am back at it with training and socialisation.

This year we are also looking at holding a Responsible Dog owner event.
This will include but not limited too, general training tips, walking, recall, how to engage correctly at parks in social areas etc as well as having one of the pet stores here advise on the latest items re toys, training aids, food brands etc And A rep from the vets to go over some must have basic first aid for your dog, like, rashes, bites,heatstroke,thunder/fireworks, no go foods and plants/ how to bandage limbs etc.
So look out for the date and time later in the year.

Remember this week is stinking hot, so shade, fresh water, ice blocks with maybe treats in them.

Have a plan in place for your pets so they can't run off if scared of fireworks.
Inside with TV or music on not overly loud😳.
Talk normally to your pet, don't over feed it treats.
Do some training with them if u are home.

We are getting heatwave warning.
Please do not exercise your dog(s) they will be ok if they miss a couple of days.
Watch for heat stroke.
Supply shelter from the heat/sun
Have plenty of water on hand.

🕷 Ehrlichiosis: a deadly threat to Australian Dogs 🕷

Ehrlichiosis is an infectious disease transmitted by Brown Dog Ticks carrying bacteria in the Ehrlichia genus. The bacteria infects white blood cells and impacts blood platelets. The disease appears to be particularly severe in Doberman pinschers, German shepherds, Belgium Malinois and Siberian huskies.

Symptoms of Ehrlichiosis in dogs present in three phases: acute, subclinical and chronic.

Acute Phase
- Fever
- Swollen lymph nodes
- Loss of appetite
- Lethargy
- Respiratory distress
- Bleeding disorders (including nosebleeds)

Subclinical Phase
If not treated or eliminated by the dog’s immune system, the illness will pass into the subclinical phase. This phase is considered the most dangerous phase as the disease does not present any symptoms, making it undetectable and able to progress without treatment.

Chronic Phase
If the infection remains untreated, it will enter the chronic phase. In this phase symptoms will become more intense and more difficult to treat. These symptoms include:
- Anemia
- Lameness
- Bleeding episodes
- Swollen limbs
- Vision loss

PREVENTION:
Year-round tick-prevention treatment is the best way to protect your dog from ehrlichiosis and other tick-borne illnesses. But because no tick prevention method is 100% effective, it’s important to physically check for ticks after being in areas where ticks are known to live, including yourself and belongings as they can be transported back to areas where they have yet to be discovered!
Remember: Seresto stops ticks from biting and ticks die after contact. ALL other tick products (including oral, spot-ons and injections) ticks must bite to be killed, allowing disease transmission!

Christmas/New Year period re training sessions and playgroups.

That time of year is upon us again.

Training sessions will be held Sat 14th Sun 15th and Sat 21st and Sun 22nd Dec.
Weather permitting.

Little dog play/social group will be held Sat 21st at 9am (you need to let me know if you are coming so I know numbers)
Also weather permitting.

All sessions are weather permitting.

Sessions for the New Year will start from Sat 18th Jan.

Just checking in with you all, to make sure you and your dogs are ok from the storm that went through??
For those who are first time dog owners or have dogs that went through a storm first time, keep an eye on them, try and keep them in their routines.

🚨 URGENT ALERT: Parvo outbreak in NSW! 🚨

There has been a rise in cases of canine parvovirus (parvo) and all pet owners need to act quickly to protect their furry friends. Parvo disease is highly contagious, deadly, and costly to treat.

😷 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗜𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲 (but aren't limited too):
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea (often bloody)
- Lethargy
- Loss of appetite
- Fever
If your pet shows any of these symptoms, seek veterinary care immediately, mortality rate for parvo is high as 91% when left untreated and most deaths occur 48-72hours after onset of symptoms.

🛑 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗜𝗦 𝗞𝗘𝗬!
- Make sure your pets are up-to-date on their yearly vaccinations.

⚠️ Due to ongoing flood renovations we currently do not have the Isolation facilities to treat Parvo in clinic, other treatment options are available.
If you suspect your dog has Parvo please DO NOT BRING IT INTO THE CLINIC - Call us from the car!
