We are approaching the silly season fast🥰🎄✨
Please ensure your pets medication and food is adequately stocked for over the Christmas period. Whilst our clinics will only be closed on selected days over the Christmas period, our suppliers will either be closed or on reduced deliveries during this time.🎄❤️

When requesting medication refills for your pet, we recommend calling at least 3-4 days in advance. This ensures we have the medication in stock and it allows us time to prepare it for collection.🙏🏻
Popping in to the clinic without pre ordering medication may result in:
▫️Longer wait time: Our vets may be with other patients therefore you may have to wait for a period of time for the medication
▫️Low/No Stock: The particular medication/s may not be available and we may have to order them in
▫️Consult required: By law, your pet must have a consultation every 6 months if they are on prescription medication. This allows the Vet to monitor their response to the medication and also make any necessary changes in terms of dosage / type of medication.

Thank you for understanding 🫶🏻

The weather is getting warmer and we have seen cases of heat stress already 😢☀️
Please keep your furry friends cool during these hot days, as heat stress can be fatal.

🔥It is essential to take prompt action if you observe any of the symptoms outlined in the image below.🔥

To minimize the risk of heat stress, consider the following recommendations:
* Ensure that your pets have unlimited access to fresh water. 💧
* Avoid exercising your pets during the heat of the day; instead, take them for walks in the early morning or late afternoon.🐕‍🦺
* Provide access to cool, shaded areas.🌳
* Never leave pets in cars without air conditioning. Slightly lowering the windows does not provide adequate cooling. Additionally, be cautious about leaving them in the back of a ute.
If you notice any concerning symptoms in your pet, please seek veterinary attention immediately. You can contact the clinic at 5467 2277.

Thinking of buying a new horse? Have you considered booking a Pre-Purchase Examination (PPE)? 🐴

What is a PPE?🤔
A PPE is a comprehensive assessment performed by a veterinarian to give prospective buyers a clear picture of a horse’s current health status and physical soundness prior to purchasing. During this exam, any existing issues or risks that may impact the horse’s ability to perform as intended, whether that’s for riding, competition, breeding, or leisure will be identified.

Why is a PPE Important?🤷‍♀️
A PPE offers insight into the horse’s overall condition, helping you make an educated decision. Without a professional evaluation, any hidden issues such as subtle lameness, heart problems, or respiratory issues to list a few, may not be evident. Suitability is also a big deciding factor as not all horses are suited for all types of activities. A veterinary assessment can determine if the horse is likely to meet your specific goals.

What does a PPE involve?🩺
A standard PPE generally includes five stages, though it can be tailored based on specific concerns or intended use.
1. Preliminary examination: The consultation will begin with the vet observing the horse at rest. They will assess the general health, behaviour, vital signs (heart and respiratory rates) and body condition. They will also inspect for any visible issues such as lumps, scars, or signs of past injuries.
2. Movement evaluation: The horse’s movement is then assessed by walking and trotting in-hand on a hard, flat surface. Flexion tests are also performed to help identify any potential lameness or joint issues.
3. Exercise phase: The horse is lunged or ridden to evaluate its movement at different gaits and under moderate exercise. This allows the vet to assess the horse’s cardiovascular and respiratory systems in action and on recovery, as well as monitor how joints and muscles perform under stress.
4. Rest and recovery: After exercise, the vet rechecks the vital signs to evaluate recovery time and look for any irregularities that may indicate underlying health concerns.
5. Final examination: The vet performs a final check which often includes further flexion tests and other detailed observations.

A full report is then issued which summarises the findings of the examination.
Additional diagnostics can be performed during the examination upon request. This includes x-rays, endoscopy, ultrasounds, blood tests and reproductive evaluation. 🩸

A Pre-Purchase Examination is a vital step in the horse-buying process and is not something that should be overlooked. By enlisting an equine veterinarian with the accreditation to conduct a thorough PPE, you’re helping ensure your new equine friend is a healthy and suitable match.🐴🤎

Do you know the symptoms of HEAT STRESS in our pets?!☀️🥵

Hyperthermia, commonly referred to as “heat stress” or “heat exhaustion”, occurs when your pet’s body temperature exceeds a healthy range and as it rises, they become unable to regulate their own body heat.🥵

Heat stress is an EMERGENCY and should never be overlooked. Severe cases may result in your pet losing consciousness, going into organ failure, and in some cases, death. 😢

SYMPTOMS:
➡️Excessive panting/struggling to breathe (Brachycephalic breeds such as Pugs, French Bulldogs, Boxers ect are more susceptible to heat exhaustion as they cannot pant as efficiently)
(Older dogs are also more prone to heat stress)
➡️Restlessness/ inability to 'calm down'
➡️Excessive drooling
➡️Weakness/wobbly when walking followed by collapse
➡️Vomiting/Diarrhoea
➡️Very red or pale gums
➡️Dizziness/disorientated
➡️Seizure activity

PREVENTION:
💧Ensure your pet has access to fresh, clean water at all times
⚽️Avoid exercising them in hot weather (walk/run early in the morning or late in the afternoon)
🌳Access to shade/ cool environment (Not on hot surface ect)
🚗Never leave your pet in a car unattended or without air conditioning.
Temperatures inside vehicles rise extremely quickly
🏊‍♀️Access to a dog pool in a shaded area

❗️ACT QUICKLY- Heat stress can advance rapidly - sometimes in a matter of minutes, so prompt action is VERY important!
☎️You can reach us on 5467 2277 if you’re concerned about your pet.
