I've decided to downsize my herd. 60 alpacas is a few too many for me at the moment.

I will soon update my website with a selection of animals for sale, including 6mth old males, young females, older pregnant females, and certified stud males. Prices will start at $660. Discounts for multiples.

Most colours will be included in the variety on offer.

So if you're considering owning alpacas, or adding to your herd, please let me know, as I might just have the one you're looking for!

So for a few years, I've had a handful of huacaya amongst my suri herd. I've decided that I will now stick to only suri.
So I am offering my young stud huacaya for sale.
Sunline Truman. He is AAA registered and certified.
Due to certain suri males consistently jumping fences, Truman has not yet had a chance to prove himself. He has a fine and dense fleece so will no doubt make beautiful crias.

Sadly, little Tuppence somehow broke her other hind leg on Friday. The first break was very slow to heal and she was still in a cast for that. This 2nd break caused her achilles tendon to snap. The vet felt that her bones are too thin and brittle, and so we made the very hard decision to put her to sleep. 😥

💥HAVE YOU BOOKED YOUR SHEARING?💥

Don't leave it until late, otherwise, you might not be able to book a shearer. Follow our tips:
✅Alpacas need to be shorn annually.
✅Shearing is usually done in spring or early summer so that the alpacas have grown enough fleece back before the weather cools again and so they have their fleece removed before the weather gets too hot.
✅Alpaca shearing is a specialist skill - use only experienced alpaca shearers to perform this task
✅Talk to an experienced breeder in your area to find out when alpacas are typically shorn in your locality.
✅ Local breeders may also be able to advise you on alpaca shearers that are in or visit your area. When breeders only have a small number of alpacas, it may be beneficial to liaise with other breeders locally to organise shearing simultaneously in order to secure the shearer’s services.
HOW TO LOCATE ALPACA SHEARERS:
▶️ We have a directory of alpaca shearers in Australia. Some travel around the state or various states. Others shear in certain areas only: https://alpaca.asn.au/alpaca-shearer-business-directory/
▶️ Speak to alpaca owners and breeders around your area to find out who they use
When contacting a shearer, leave enough information so they can understand your requirements. Let them know:
▶️ Your name, location, and contact details
▶️ How many alpacas you have
▶️ If you have power nearby your shearing area and shelter
Shearers are very busy people. They travel long distances, shear multiple animals per day, and usually only check their messages at the end of the day. It may take a day or sometimes a few days for them to get back to you.

An update on "Tuppence". The vet has decided that surgery isn't necessary. They're setting and placing a solid cast on her leg. Because she is still growing, we expect will heal well.

I've locked her mum in the small pen with her, so she can drink from her mum.

Once the bones are aligned and the cast is in place, she should be good as new in about 6 weeks.

Poor little "Tuppence" -6 weeks old - broke her leg today. It's a clean but serious break of her tibia (between her knee and ankle).

The senior vet will check X-rays tomorrow and then we'll decide what to do. For now she's splinted and confined.

I think Kip has been adopted!

The brown cria belongs to this mum, Kip is the black cria who was orphaned a couple of weeks ago after his mum died from suspected snake bite. Kip has been refusing most of his bottles for the past week, and this photo explains why.

It's not common for alpacas to adopt orphans, so this is pretty special. This mum sniffs him and accepts him drinking from her.

She has been unwell, and I worry that making milk for 2 crias might be too much, so she is locked in a smaller space with heaps of good feed.
