A first for us again this year, Sand-plain Worm Lizard (Asprasia repens). We relocated these two specimens from Jellybeans Childcare & Kindy in Meadow Springs.

This species gets to a maximum of 180mm with a snout to vent length of 126mm. They’re found in the pale coastal sand-plains of south western WA, north to Kalbarri and east to Esperance. They’re common near Perth.

This species is harmless and non-venomous. Disinclined to bite and wouldn’t hurt much if they bite someone.

Over 95% of Asprasia (the genus the Sand-plain Worm Lizard) eat ant larvae and pupae.

Don’t forget to like our page and let us know if you’ve heard of this species before!

Just food for thought. (This post was made I believe in 2017, stolen from another page that stole it from a separate page)

I do believe the fines and jail time is more here in WA. I’ve read an article about a year or two ago now that it was up to $150,000 in fines and 10 years in jail for a person, if it was on a mine-site or commercial, the business itself can land up to $250,000 and up to 10 years in jail.

Oh and before people go “it was a threat so that makes it legal” well the snake wasn’t the threat? If the snake was the threat, then you’re the threat as well.

How to avoid yourself being a threat to snakes:

1. Look around when walking outside at home, make sure you look out of the doors before just blindly walking out as what I guarantee 99% of us do (including myself).

2. Do dog avoidance training, a keep doing refreshes every September right before snake season kicks off in the Perth/Peel regions.

3. If a snake is doing the defensive “S” position don’t take it as it’s angry and wants to bite, it’s protecting itself and most people will claim that as being chased or its trying to bite me. Give the snake a wide birth and let it be, if you’re worried call a snake catcher.

4. If you have a snake outside bring all PETS and KIDS inside, if you have a snake inside, take all PETS and KIDS outside and a responsible adult to keep eyes on the snake, the more eyes on the snake the better. If the snake is in a contained room with no escape path out, close the door and drench a towel and push that up hard up against the door so there’s no gap for the snake to leave.

5. “The snake is angry”, if the snake appears angry and you haven’t disturbed it, think about what might’ve happened? Did the neighbours dogs or cats stir it up, did a local bird swoop down and try to kill it by pecking it, did a car nearly run it over as it was crossing the road, has some imbecile try to kill it but failed and now it’s made it safely into your backyard.

Reptiles react off of movement, if you’re in close proximity to a snake stay completely still and do not move, if you’re still the snake will almost certainly not react to you and keep slithering on past you. I do not recommend trying to prove this theory by walking up to a snake just for it get stirred up (which you’re now the threat not the snake) and for the snake to defend itself and worse case happens.

If everyone’s interested let me know below, but would everyone like to see Brown snake (Dugite) and Tiger Snake behaviour up close (on video) to show if they just have space all they want to do is flee, however once cornered they’ll defend themselves?

🔥 SOUTHERN RIVER FIRE UPDATE BY SOUTH-WEST REPTILE REMOVALS 🔥

These are the most recent photos and videos from a few hours ago. DFES are trying to keep the fire under control however it keeps going from under control to being out of control. We believe the fire is stable and under control at the moment. These photos were taken 150-200m away from our place.

Just as a heads up, our beloved reptiles will be out on the move in the next few days once the fire has deceased. They have now completely lost their homes and might be a bit flighty or nervous due to this fact. They might be injured so please be vigilant and keep an eye out for them. If you have a reptile on your property please don’t hesitate to give us a call.

I would just like to finish up with, I hope everyone’s homes and pets are safe, I’ve been notified that a couple of houses/properties on Matison Street have caught fire, I am currently unaware if they’ve been saved or if they’ve even been put out.

Please stay safe and I hope the DFES are able to completely put out the fire and it doesn’t spark back up and everyone who has evacuated is able to return home.

After yesterday's post we had a few messages about snakes being dangerous, mean and threatening people. Thought we would bring out this oldie to help illustrate exactly how it works.....
Have a great day everyone!

RARE DANGEROUSLY VENOMOUS SNAKE RELOCATION! Today we had a callout for a certain species in Bedfordale, I was yet to relocate. This was an absolute first time for both Jyden and myself, and well Jyden’s first time seeing a wild specimen. We rushed straight out and not wasting anytime heading to the property, the snake was on the move as we pulled up. This species is a slow slithering snake however they have the fastest strike of any snake in the world, there is a few that match or come close to the speed of this apex ambush predator of the Darling Scarp. Please don’t hesitate to save our number if you need a catcher and don’t forget to like and share our page around to friends and family. We cover a vast area of the Perth, Peel and Wheatbelt region, thank you to our dedicated team of snake catchers! 0403 834 691

Marl Way, Piara Waters - Tiger Snake 🐍

Today myself and Jyden's reptile removal's jumped in the car and shot off to Piara Waters to retrieve a Tiger Snake from outside the front door.

A bit about the Tiger Snake (Notechis scutatus) 🐍

Venom 🧪: The Tiger Snake is dangerously venomous elapid (front facing fang) which has potent concoction of presynaptic neurotoxins (toxins in venom that cause paralysis or muscle weakness). Also present are postsynaptic neurotoxins, which are less potent but more rapid acting than the presynaptic neurotoxins. Tiger snake venom also contains potent procoagulants (toxins in venom that interfere with blood clotting, causing consumption of the clotting protein, fibrinogen; this causes defibrination, with non-clottable blood, putting victims at risk of major bleeding). Tiger snake venom does contain myotoxins that cause myolysis (rhabdomyolysis, muscle damage).

Description 🐍: The Tiger Snake is a species of Australian snake that gets up to an average 80cm here in WA and can vary in patterns and colours throughout it’s different localities in Australia. Predominately the Western Tiger Snake is a black with gold/yellow stripes and generally the further south you go the less likely the banding will occur due to the cooler climates, however over east they get a brown and cream colour Tiger which can get upwards of 1.7m long!

Habitat 🌏: Tiger Snakes are generally found around lakes and swamplands due to increase of frogs in those areas.

Diet 🍽: The diet of the Tiger Snake mainly consists of frogs, but also snack on small lizards (skinks and legless lizards), small mammals (rodents) and also have been seen eating fish!

Don’t forget to call the professionals when you need a reptile removed but most importantly stay safe and have fun!

Friendly reminder as we head into the warmer months.

LOOK OUT FOR TURTLES! 👀🐢

Yesterday one of our reporters had to stop a bus from accidentally running down a snake-necked turtle near the ABC Perth office.

Turns out it's nesting season for these unique little critters - known in Noongar as yaakan or booyi - which means they're on the move as they look for the perfect place to lay their eggs.

Volunteer turtle tracker Bryan Saunders said snake-necked turtles can sense when rain is on its way and come out en-masse to lay their eggs in the softer ground.

If you come across a snake-necked turtle on the road, give it space and guide it safely on its way if possible. Avoid picking it up unless it's injured.

If you find one that has been run over, Mr Saunders said it's still worth taking it to the vet as they may be able to harvest its eggs - which is important as they're an at-risk species.

Also remember to log any sightings on TurtleSAT. Citizen science ftw! https://turtlesat.org.au/turtlesat/

Fairweather Drive, Piara Waters. Weakly/mildly venomous Western Crowned Snake (Elapognathus coronatus).

We attended a callout for this beautiful Western Crowned Snake yesterday, that was hiding underneath the couch up against the back wall. Safe to say he’s been relocated safely away from people and in new habitat that’s perfect for him to forage around and find food items.

If you have a snake or reptile that you’d like relocated, please don’t hesitate to give us a call!

Firefly Street, Piara Waters. Tiger Snake (Notechis scutatus)

Check out this beautiful Tiger Snake we relocated from a backyard in Piara Waters! This beautiful specimen decided it was the perfect spot to gather up the last of the sun in this person backyard. However that wasn’t an ideal spot for him with young kids in the house and worried parents so back off to a nature reserve for him to live out his years.
