Breeder Rob Simmonds was at Byford trials to watch his Captain Ahab filly, Officer Pink, go around in an education trial on Sunday.
There were two Captain Ahab youngsters in the trial. They are the first of his progeny to step out in public trials.
His son, Wild Winds, showed promise when he raced in the breeze and finished second in the 1730m trial in time of 2.6.1. Officer Pink finished fifth.
Captain Ahab was an exciting two-year-old, winning his first nine outings – two trials and seven races on US tracks.
The imposing son of Captaintreacherous was bought by the Simmonds family, who have strongly supported him with their broodmares.
He had 30 foals from his first crop and WA harness fans will be eagerly watching their progress when they step out in 2025.
He has 11 yearlings in the 2025 APG Perth Yearling Sale on March 3.
Rob Simmonds sold an impressive Ahab c**t for $37,000 at last year’s sale, a good return for a $3000 service fee. He has put 10 mares in foal this year.
