Could you be the Goose to handsome Maverick?!!

💔 MY MEET IS CANCELLED?! 💔

Our handsome young Maverick is all dressed up (in his birthday suit) with nowhere to go 😥 He’d had a pep talk from his foster mum and got ready to put his best paw forward and then… nothing!

We don’t blame the applicant who had to pull out of Maverick’s latest meet and greet. Life happens and we just hope they’re alright!

What really saddens us though, is how few opportunities there have been for our big boy at all. He arrived in April 2024 as a little 4 month old puppy and has been here. ever. since. He’s only had 2 meets planned during that whole time and neither panned out 😭

Sure, he gets a few emails, but enquirers either don’t follow through with their applications, or they don’t quite have the home Maverick is looking for. That can end up being great news for some of our other dogs, but Maverick’s still here waiting 💔

Ok, so what’s he been doing in the meantime? Besides growing like a freakin’ bean stalk..? 🤣🦒

Well, Maverick has been going between our dog trainer and one of our most experienced carers. That’s right, he’s been getting all the BEST practice at being a good boy!

He has been learning how to handle new experiences, environments, and people. Some things still give him the heebie jeebies (I’m looking at YOU, Mr green wheelie bin!! 🫵🗑️). Some things he’ll still need your support with. And that’s okay, that’s part of caring for a rescue dog 🐕

That’s not all he’s been doing, though. He has also been an absolute clown, doing zoomies, playing with his chews, and keeping himself (and everyone around him) thoroughly entertained 🤡 Those long lanky legs have a mind of their own.

Our ultimate dream for Maverick is to find a carer who plans to foster him with a view to adopting once he’s settled in. Then he won’t have his life uprooted all over again (and can live happily ever after 🥳).

BUT‼️ Maverick is running out of time in his current housing situation. Neither of his helpers are able to keep him any longer. So right now, even a committed foster carer will be an incredible help! We want to find him somewhere to live ASAP and avoid sending him to kennels.

Why fostering / adopting / rescuing is more important than you realise 💕💕

Why is Rescue Month so Important?

Because of dogs like Covid.

Covid found himself alone in a pound after his owner passed away. Thanks to the incredible support from SavourLife and the Petbarn Foundation’s Rescue Month, we were able to get him out quickly and into the safety of our rescue.

But just a week ago, Covid faced another challenge—a severe infection that left him unable to stand. Thankfully, the funds from Rescue Month didn’t just help us save more dogs; they also gave us the resources to handle unexpected medical emergencies like his.

Today, Covid is back on his feet, thriving in a foster home with a furry foster sister, and feeling so much better! Now, all he needs is a forever home! Keep an eye on the SavourLife adoption page because once he gets the official all clear from the vet, he’ll be ready to go!

HomeSafe ID Pet Registry is shutting down. Please read if your pet is registered through them (microchip).

Earlier this week we advised pet owners who have microchips registered with HomeSafe ID that they should act immediately to register their pet with a new database.

Global Micro Animal Registry is offering free re-registration to affected pet owners - https://www.globalmicro.com.au/homesafe-re-registration/

It appears HomeSafe ID are closing their website, which means you, the ranger and vet will no longer have access to your pet's information if needed.

Further advice for impacted consumers:
🐶Review the certificate you received when your pet was first registered, as this will display the microchip registration number and which database they are registered in.
🐶 If you're unsure - search petaddress.com.au using the microchip number to check which database they are registered in.
🐱 If you're unable to find the certificate - visit your local vet, who will be able to scan your animal and provide you with the microchip number and advise you of the database holding those details.
🐱 If the pet is registered with HomeSafe ID or Pet Electronic Tags (P.E.T.S) Pty Ltd, the microchip will need to be registered again with a new registration service.
🐱 People with rescue pets are particularly encouraged to check who they are registered with.
