"The below is an update on the unfolding situation at RSPCA WA, as the bushfire in Perth’s north-east continues to threaten lives and homes.

RSPCA WA’s Animal Care Centre in Malaga remains on bushfire advice alert. Because of the possibility of evacuation from our shelter, we have been unable to offer emergency boarding for animals from evacuated or lost houses to date. We will review this once the threat to our Animal Care Centre passes.

RSPCA WA’s representative on the Committee for Animal Welfare in Emergencies was present at the incident management centre in Mundaring yesterday and our inspectorate and animal services representatives are taking part in the State Recovery Coordination Group. They will offer whatever assistance RSPCA WA can provide to animals in need – as we always have.

We have taken in an injured cat found in the fire zone which is receiving medical treatment. If you find an animal that is injured, please contact the Shire of Mundaring or the City of Swan, who will inform the team of vets on site in the bushfire zone. As with previous bushfires, RSPCA WA will be able to help care for those who are lost or abandoned and need rehabilitation and longer-term treatment.

Your first port of call for injured native animals should be the Parks & Wildlife Service Wildcare Helpline.

Our thoughts go out to those affected by this fire and our heartfelt thanks to those battling the blaze. In particular, as an organisation of animal lovers, the impact on pets, livestock and wildlife has been heartbreaking to see.

We will continue to update you as the situation unfolds.

How to Book a Successful Pet Stay in 10 easy steps.
Step 1. Connect with Pet Sitter (insured, police checked, trained)

Step 2. Arrange a time to meet during daylight hours & bring your pet.

Step 3. Introduce your Pet to Sitter & their Pet to observe chemistry & any potential problems.

Step 4. Request a walk through Property Tour (inside and backyard).

Step 5. Identify any escape routes or hazards. Resolve together.

Step 6. Discuss expectations, Schedules, and Food & Exercise Routine.

Step 7. Discuss Emergency contact, Vet Name, Authorised Vet Spend, & if an Account is set up at the Vet.

Step 8. Was it a Match? If you had a good feeling & pets seemed compatible, confirm the booking.

Step 9. On the date of the Pet Stay: Pack your pets bags. (Pack food to last the stay + 2 extra days just in case, plus toys, bones, leash, waste bags, put on their collar & ID tag, parasite control, any medication, &
bedding). Then drop them at your Pet Sitter's home.

Step 10. During the stay you should receive a daily photo with a short pet behaviour & wellness update.
