Following on from my last post about the importance of brushing…….this is my Louis’ ear with a giant mat in it 🤦‍♀️ Seems I should practice what I preach 🤣

Just to make you all feel better - even the groomer doesn’t keep on top of brushing sometimes 🤭

Cleo the Cavoodle 💗

Let’s talk about the “oodle” coat 🤓 Whilst this is perfect for creating the teddy bear style, it does require a lot of maintenance in between grooms. Cleo’s owners brush regularly and her grooms are 6 weekly to maintain this look 🧸

✅Use a coat conditioning spray, brush & comb
✅Spray the coat, brush gently down to the skin and check for knots with the comb
✅Do this at least 3/4 times a week
✅Remember we are brushing to prevent knots and not waiting until they have formed

Tell us a little about yourself where are you located and what kind of salon do you have or work for (mobile, home or commercial)?
Originally from England, moved to Sydney's Northern Beaches in 2014 after meeting my partner Tom while I was travelling. We met at Heaven beach bar, Koh Phangan, Thailand.
I have a home based salon called Love Wammals in Kinross. A "Wammal" is Black Country dialect for a domestic dog. The Black Country is an area of the West Midlands in England where Tom is from.

How many pets do you have?
2 - Louis the 10 month old toy poodle & Buddy, 9 year old cat who was adopted from the Animal Welfare League after being found as a stray in Western Sydney

And how does your work environment work for you?
I love working from home as I no longer have any commute. I can also have as many cups of tea as I like - and that's a lot! I do miss having company and a good bit of banter though (luckily I have the very witty Simone from K9 Divine nearby who provides me with daily laughs, shoulder to cry on, friendly ear)

How long have you been grooming and how did you start out?
When COVID hit in 2020, my home cleaning business took a hit so I decided to use the extra time to learn how to groom. It's something I'd been thinking about doing for a few years. I did a 10 week course with The Grooming School in Rathmines, NSW over a few months so that I could also still work on my cleaning business. After that I worked at a salon in Nelsons Bay, NSW which was owned by a former student of The Grooming School. This enabled me to get some great experience with grooming but also on how to run a grooming business. We then moved from Sydney to Perth and I worked at a salon in West Perth for just over a year, again gaining some valuable experience from all the groomers there. Tania Wilson in particular. She has been my inspiration and introduced me to DGA. In October 2022 I decided to take the plunge and go it alone which was scary at first but now I love it. My books have filled quickly and I've met some truly amazing people who have supported and cheered for me along the way.

What is your preferred grooming style and why (Asian fusion, Hand Stripping, De-Sheds etc.)?
Asian Fusion hands down. I absolutely love fluffy & curly coats! I could spend hours fluff drying and combing. I went to Malaysia in May and completed Valerie Khoo's Asian Fusion course which has been the highlight of my grooming career so far. I do also like Breed Specific styling and learning the different patterns and techniques. I've always been a very creative person and feel like this is definitely coming out in my grooming.

What are your interests outside of the grooming world, your destress wind down?
Nowadays I love the quiet, simple life. Walks along the ocean with Louis, crocheting a blanket in front of the wood burner, good food and good music are my go-to wind downs. I also love a bit of pampering with plenty of massages and spending god knows how much money on my forever changing hair.

Jax…….this was a BIG groom for him and I’m so very proud of him 🙌

When he first came to me he was petrified of grooming so his owner stayed and helped. We then moved on to them bathing at home and me grooming without them there.

Yesterday I did the full works - bath, blow dry and full groom - just him and me listening to chill out music, taking things slowly and calmly. I’m honestly amazed at how we’ve even achieved such a lovely groom in a short space of time. Well done Jax, you’re a true star 🌟 ✨💫⭐️

A little something about me and my grooming journey over the past 3 years. My aim has always been to adapt those show stopping styles into high quality grooming for our pets at home. My continuous investment in training and education in this amazing industry helps me to maintain a high standard and keep up to date with all the new styles and techniques. Luna is an anxious little soul. We’ve found that changing her groom time from the afternoon to the morning has made a real difference and she was definitely more relaxed and calm today.

Sometimes a small change like this can make a big difference. Well done Luna 🙌🖤🌟
