This is Girtie. She’s one of the ‘invisible’ victims of Victorian Labor’s commercial kangaroo killing industry. Her mum was killed for the sake of a few dollars.

Girtie was affectionate and loving. She craved the attention and touch of her carer. She was sociable and loved being around other rescued joeys. Her carer did everything and more to save her, but in the end Girtie’s trauma was too great.

Girtie is with her mum again. 💔

She leaves behind a heartbroken carer, one of many who see first-hand the cruelty that comes with reducing sensitive, loving animals to nothing but dollar signs. Girtie, like all joeys who are orphaned and killed after their mums are shot, are seen as nothing more than collateral damage. Legally they can be smacked against a ute tray until they die. Those who manage to escape may suffer for days before they succumb to predation or exposure, left completely vulnerable without their mums.

These babies deserve better. Their mums deserve better.
Precious native animals deserve better.

Kangaroos and their joeys need us. They need you to know what is happening under the cover of night, they need you to know what governments are allowing cruel industries to get away with.
