Seems to have been a wild lorikeet season since October!

This is our 34th LPS baby. We have named him Arnott!

10/10 took him to class with us, because when you rely on others to feed you and keep you warm and safe, you get to go *PLACES*

Hi everyone! We are back home, (last 200km of our trip required a tow!)

We are currently not taking in any new surrenders unless previously arranged as our regular transports are both out of action until further notice 😅

Is anyone able to babysit two lorikeets for two -3 weeks while we are interstate?

Must be treated as if they have BPFD and kept away from other birds.

We are currently interstate and unable to assist, but apparently birds don’t take holidays 😂❤️

I AM FURIOUS

I was contacted by a lovely member of the public who had come into possession of THREE of our rats.

How? Let me tell you.

They were found in a small Tupperware container, in 38 degree temperature, dumped outside a shopping center. No food, no water, no shade, and no thought to their safety and well-being. Had they not been found so promptly they would have died. And it would not have been a quick death.

Now anyone that has adopted from us knows, and is told REPEATEDLY to stay in touch, let us know how they progress, are they settling in? How is their health? Are they being temperamental jerks? Have your circumstances changed? Are you unable to provide for them?

No problems. None at all. If we can't help you with keeping your ratfam together, we can take your ratfam back.

Feeling embarrassed? Life happens. Circumstances change, some rats clash, some are hysterical banshees and aren't suited to your household.

Be responsible.

We are rescue, and as such, we are responsible for any rats we release to the public. By adopting from us, you agree at adoption to a verbal contract, which asks that you return our rats to us, if and when necessary.

We offer boarding, as well as no questions asked surrenders. We don't care, our priority is our rat people.

There are always options.

Don't *choose* to be a monster.

We had a sudden unexpected decline in Meeki in the last 24 hours, and were unable to put off her sunset appointment 😭

My heart breaks for Miss J, who has spent the last 18 months of her life absolutley inseparable from the most patient, gentle and trusting potato. Meeki has been able to help Miss J build confidence, tackle new situations, and soothe her when nothing else worked.

Meeki has 10/10 been one of our most surprising rescues, and hands down our largest girl! 440g!

We have been so privileged to have experienced Meekis love, and we are both amazed and heartbroken to have lost another 3.5yo this year 😭

Big thanks to Wattle Grove veterinary clinic again for their genuine love, care and support for my family.

Now we adjust to a slightly emptier normal :(

Is 2022 finished yet? Its been extra rough this year.

We seem to share a lot of the rats side, and less of the Rainbows, so here is Rebel, rescued Saturday, he had either fallen or been kicked from the nest and chased and injured by predators.

Its been a while since we have hand raised anyone, and I have to say... MICE ARE MUCH QUIETER

The excitement when Rebel runs around makes up for his CONSTANT baby calling 😂

Our beautiful fat chonky girl Meeki has been diagnosed with a rather chaotic heartbeat and a bit of a murmur.

Please take this as a reminder that if you are battling a stubborn respiratory issue that it may just be their heart!

As far as a 3yo rat goes, she is BIG (440g!) And very healthy other than her heart.

As a result, and to put Meeki first, we will no longer be bringing our fat Meeks out on our meet and greet days.

Following her surgery today, Cricket has tragically passed. We are in utter shock, and were not at all ready to say goodbye to one of the cheekiest, energetic and brainy rats to have come through our doors.

Cricket has always been a favourite (and handful), keeping us busy, letting herself out to wander the house, visiting friends, popping outside (through a cricket sized hole in the flyscreen...) chasing and tormenting the cat, and teaching youngsters the way of the rat.

Cricket has always remembered to be polite when sharing drinks, dipping in her hands rather than her head, and never one to turn down a coffee, especially cappuccinos 😂

Cricket has been a fabulous ESA and we already miss her, her persistence, awareness, cheeky antics, boggles and 'pls no kisses' hands.

The best ones always leave too soon 💔

Ready for their new families.

Preference to families that will neuter them, as they are not ours, we cannot guarantee they won't develop HA.

boys are all healthy and friendly, and very curious, though could do with more handling as I have been in hospital more than not since they arrived.

Each comes flea, mite and worm treated, vet health checked, and have all passed initial behavioural checks- this does not rule out future HA.

As always our lifetime support, and return policies apply.

We want to keep our rats and ratfams together :)

Rats and Rainbows small animal rescue has had a brand new critter nation cage stolen from their front yard in the last 24-48 hours on shipley place in westminster. (Struck by covid and moving it inside was delayed)

Reward offered for the return of the cage, or information that leads to the recovery of it.

Unfortunately if unable to be recovered, we will be closing our doors permanently.

RaR is a privately run small animal rescue, quite often running at capacity, and as such we are not in a position to simply 'carry on'.

After seeing his vet, Slate has been given good news! His heart has stabilised, the fluid is gone, so he can stop the frusemide, and just continue with his pimobendan twice a day. Still trying to kick this sneaky RI that jumped in while he was down, and his weight is static at 540g down from 680g two weeks ago, but we are well versed in helping skinny minnies chub up ❤

We caught it early, so we are cautiously hopeful he will get another 12-18 months being just 12mo.

Pssst. Don't tell the others- but he's definitely my favourite bigboi 🤫❤🐀

On Tuesday Slate was diagnosed with the same heart condition as his humum.

5 days post heart diagnosis, he's still looking rough, but we are cautiously hopeful.

Embarking on the weekly hour long trip to our favourite vet center, to see the wonderful, and very thorough vet Lisa, who saved his life!

Why sit in the carrier with the others when you can snuggle with mama?
