We are heading into baby season again.

This is the millionth reminder VETS ARE NOT LORIKEET FRIENDS. The legislation in place means wild or found keets are euthanised, just the same as wild mice and rats.

We are here to save lives, not sign death sentences.

These are a PEST and are treated as such. There is so much information available at our fingertips, resources, carers, rescues etc

These are in place to give these birds a chance, as they can adapt and make fabulous life companions.

Do better guys. Do better.

R.I.P. Herbie

Herbie went to the vet yesterday to have a lymph node abscess removed and our family is absolutely shattered and heartbroken to lose him after he had his surgery. He was our best Guinea pig man and he cannot be replaced. I’m so sorry Herbie, we thought we were doing the right thing. The tears can’t stop. We love you!

This is Herbie! After going to see Dr. Tim at Wattle Grove he got to have a treat at Petstock. Herbie and Valentino are going back to the Vet on Monday for their operations. A bit of a rough start to our new rent-a-pet-zoo business!

We have a beautiful white male quail that is on his own. He crows all day and all night and we can’t seem to make him comfortable. He has other birds with him but he just ignores them. I think he really needs to be with other quails! Because he is older and white he won’t be any good for breeding but good for gardening!

I AM FURIOUS

I was contacted by a lovely member of the public who had come into possession of THREE of our rats.

How? Let me tell you.

They were found in a small Tupperware container, in 38 degree temperature, dumped outside a shopping center. No food, no water, no shade, and no thought to their safety and well-being. Had they not been found so promptly they would have died. And it would not have been a quick death.

Now anyone that has adopted from us knows, and is told REPEATEDLY to stay in touch, let us know how they progress, are they settling in? How is their health? Are they being temperamental jerks? Have your circumstances changed? Are you unable to provide for them?

No problems. None at all. If we can't help you with keeping your ratfam together, we can take your ratfam back.

Feeling embarrassed? Life happens. Circumstances change, some rats clash, some are hysterical banshees and aren't suited to your household.

Be responsible.

We are rescue, and as such, we are responsible for any rats we release to the public. By adopting from us, you agree at adoption to a verbal contract, which asks that you return our rats to us, if and when necessary.

We offer boarding, as well as no questions asked surrenders. We don't care, our priority is our rat people.

There are always options.

Don't *choose* to be a monster.

We had a sudden unexpected decline in Meeki in the last 24 hours, and were unable to put off her sunset appointment 😭

My heart breaks for Miss J, who has spent the last 18 months of her life absolutley inseparable from the most patient, gentle and trusting potato. Meeki has been able to help Miss J build confidence, tackle new situations, and soothe her when nothing else worked.

Meeki has 10/10 been one of our most surprising rescues, and hands down our largest girl! 440g!

We have been so privileged to have experienced Meekis love, and we are both amazed and heartbroken to have lost another 3.5yo this year 😭

Big thanks to Wattle Grove veterinary clinic again for their genuine love, care and support for my family.

Now we adjust to a slightly emptier normal :(

Is 2022 finished yet? Its been extra rough this year.

We seem to share a lot of the rats side, and less of the Rainbows, so here is Rebel, rescued Saturday, he had either fallen or been kicked from the nest and chased and injured by predators.

Its been a while since we have hand raised anyone, and I have to say... MICE ARE MUCH QUIETER

The excitement when Rebel runs around makes up for his CONSTANT baby calling 😂

Our beautiful fat chonky girl Meeki has been diagnosed with a rather chaotic heartbeat and a bit of a murmur.

Please take this as a reminder that if you are battling a stubborn respiratory issue that it may just be their heart!

As far as a 3yo rat goes, she is BIG (440g!) And very healthy other than her heart.

As a result, and to put Meeki first, we will no longer be bringing our fat Meeks out on our meet and greet days.
