Merry Xmas to all BERNSEA owners and friends.
This year Una came into our lives (here she is eating the receipt so I don’t take her Xmas present back). She is an absolute delight and I’m looking forward to many years with her in my life.

We have moved house - downsized from one side of Carine parkland to the other! But, I’m unable to have three dogs. In comes daughter number one. Georgina. She and her partner, Tim, will be Bailey’s new parents (Bailey prefers her to me anyway!).

During our hectic move, Zambezi and Monty’s families took Una as it was a nightmare keeping the place tidy for open house, moving etc. with her trying to sn**ch everything. I am so grateful to Leigh, Tracy and your clans. I would have otherwise gone totally nuts.

No puppies are planned for this year but possibly for 2025. I have a lot of gardening, renovating and settling in before we take that next exciting step.

My name is ……. and I have a small request or favor to ask.
Me and my partner always wanted to have a puppy but due to our jobs and home restrictions, we were never able to think seriously about it. Also for the fact that our parents never allowed us to have pets, so we always longed to have one.

But as our situation goes we still can't purchase a puppy but we would like to put our legs in the water to find out. My request is that - would you be able to lend us a puppy for 1 day or 1 night, so we get that love and affection so me and my partner can motivate ourselves to build our lives to accommodate a furlove.
It's my partner's birthday on 2nd Jan and it would be more than amazing if I am able to let her feel that puppy happiness for …….

Sophie and I took Bailey and Winnie to Bungendore Park near Armadale for a lovely bush walk circuit. Thank goodness dogs have to be on leads. We saw a huge emu and Bailey nearly dragged off my feet! Una is at home learning alone time 😢

Hi BERNSEAS.
Big news. Florence (BERNSEA Florence The Machine 28/9/22) is for sale.

I’m letting BERNSEA followers and owners know first before I make any further steps on Dogzonline.
I’m unable to keep four dogs at my suburban premises and I’m not willing to move to outer suburbs and go into the breeding of large numbers of puppies.
So, I am selling this sweet, sweet girl who started out in life as a serious terror to her five brothers. There are, however, numerous clauses to this sale.
- Her price will be $4000
- The new owners will be in the Perth metropolitan area (preferably northern suburbs) so we can take her to the beach occasionally to keep familiarity (in case of puppy-sitting duties!).
- I will possibly breed two litters from her, depending of her health score outcomes at 12 months of age (hips, elbows, eyes, heart, DNA).
- If I do breed, the new owners will get a $250 refund for each live puppy born.
- If I do breed, she will come to our home for 6-8 weeks after whelping.
- If I do breed, I will pay for all obstetric vet bills including desexing after the final litter.
- If I don’t breed, she will be transferred into the new owner’s name after 12 months of age and I will expect her to be desexed by 2 years of age.
We love Florence and would rather not do this but it may possibly be a win-win for this show winning girl.

The youngest BERNSEA, Una, had The Best Day Ever with her furry family at Bells Rapids this morning. Such a temptation to run and run but her little soft bones aren’t ready for big distances even though her brain thinks they are. Hence the Big Red Puppy Pram. Home and four filthy dog washes later and I was exhausted!

We’re entering the insanely cute stage now.

Una is almost four weeks old. Since our last post, her sharp little teeth have come through, she’s walking (waddling), and has commenced drinking and eating from a bowl. She barks! It’s awfully cute!

Florence has realised she actually has a playmate, but needs constant supervision so Una’s not treated like a football!

No puppy was harmed in the making of this video 😊

Our daily autumn walks around Trigg Bushland are lovely any time of the day. It’s just as well I’ve recently taken up weightlifting because this little hunk in my arms is a good workout!

Una at 17 days old is 2kg - that’s a six-fold increase since birth!

We’re careful to ensure she sleeps on her side as often as possible to prevent her from becoming a “swimmer”. When a puppy’s weight has increased so rapidly, they tend not to move around appropriately. Their legs splay outwards and their chest can flatten because their bones are so soft. They sleep like a beached whale!
Luckily, Una has her own “Lady-in-Waiting” (me) to keep an eye on this potential problem.

She likes gnawing on my finger - a sign that she may be teething. I can feel her baby teeth just below her gums.
She’s had her nails clipped four times already and he’s had numerous soaks in tepid baths. This sends her off into the deepest of sleeps once she’s dried and rugged up.

Winnie continues to get closer to Una. She’s now very loving towards her and likes to be nearby.

So, 10 days on, Winnie has finally started to accept little Una. She is licking her and allowing her to snuggle in to her when I place them together. We’re still waiting for Winnie to actually approach Una without prompting. As she continues to feed her puppy, her oxytocin levels will also continue to improve the bond development between them.

Little chubby chops, Una, is one week old today. She has more than doubled in size.
Una was born by caesarean - very common in dogs who usually carry numerous puppies. The single puppy does not usually induce labour due to the low pregnancy hormone level. In fact, Winnie probably didn’t even sense that she was pregnant! If she was a wild dog, she would probably die (part of the evolutionary weeding out process).

Although she produced milk, Winnie needed additional oxytocin (the love drug!) to spur on her mothering instincts. Winnie thought, “Nah, this mothering stuff isn’t my thing. I’ll feed the kid but that’s it”. I’ve had to sit with Winnie every time she feeds Una otherwise she gets up and walks away.

Una is held and stimulated most of the day as she doesn’t have siblings to scramble over, mouth with each other or smell. She comes to the shop, park and beach with us against my chest in a sling.
Luckily Aunty Bailey and half sister Florence are here to help with that job too!
