Any reward that is used to motivate the dog to learn has to be of high value until the dog is responding reliably.

When training positively, once this has been achieved, the high reward, such as food, is only used intermittently. That means the dog doesn’t get rewarded with the food every time he responds to a cue, but the next time he responds he might just get it. Then the next couple of times he responds, a lower-value reward such as praise will be used, but the dog continues to respond.

In fact, intermittent reinforcement like this actually makes a dog respond faster and more reliably because it is based on the same theory that makes a slot machine in a casino so addictive. This is how dogs really learn so even if you don’t give a food reward every time, the possibility of the potential of one in the future makes a dog work much harder.

The most important thing to know is that you can not apply punishment with a dog this characteristics. Because the fear is an emotion and you can not punish an emotion. The best thing to do is teaching the dog there is no reason to be afraid with positive reiforcement. If you tell an aggressive dog off you are helping to increase that fear in the dog instead of helping the dog not to be afraid and you take the risk that the dog become more a more aggressive!

We have seen a lot of people at the beach or in the parks pulling the dog with the lead in an abrupt way or smavking the dog as soon as the reactivity starts. If you are one of this person please don't do it any more and seek professional help!

Group Obedience Classes
* First day *

Here is Oakley waiting for her owner that is acting like a doggie training to understand how works dog's mind.

In our first day I always do a introductory game for the owners, they literally put in their dog shoes to understand their dog so they can change the way they are communicating and improve that communication!

19/10/2022

Like us, dogs and other animals go through several sleep cycles. There are periods of wakefulness, followed by Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep, and non-rapid-eye-movement sleep. REM sleep is the period responsible for the most memorable and vivid dreams and is believed to be a part of how the body processes memory, among other things.

Dogs spend about half their day sleeping. For puppies, senior dogs, and larger breeds, time spent sleeping can be even longer.

Studies have shown that small dogs have more frequent dreams than large dogs, but those small dog dreams are shorter in duration. Large dogs, on the other hand, have fewer, but longer dreams.

We can also hazard a guess that what your dog does all day determines his dreams. While we can’t yet be sure, the fact that Pointers point and Dobermans display guard behavior implies that breed-specific activities may take place during dreams, too.

Dogs can have nightmares as well but don't attempt to wake him up, like some people, dogs can react aggressively toward the person waking them. This can be dangerous, especially for children!

People that says that food is bribery do not
understand how useful is the food in training
The smell and taste of the food goes straight to the brain's emotional center, the amy gdala. Therefor in fearful dog or in a anxious dog this stimulus help the dog to overcome this fear or anxiety With pleasurable feelings and also allows the dog to focus more on the good sensation and less on the negative emotion.

Food and fear never come together and that is why food is a valuable tool to modify a dog with fear, anxiety or an stress dog
Positive training isn't just about using treats though. It is important to encourage people to use whatever reward motivates their dog: a praise, play, toys or 'life rewards' like going for a beach walk or a play date with his mates.

To sum up the best way a dog can learn is using rewards instead of punishments because learning not only makes a dog more confident and able to live successfully in a domestic environment, it also encourages mutual understanding that increases the
bond between humans and dogs. And that is not bribery.

Remember if you want a dog that is happy to train and a faster student 5 min some times its more than enough. You can identify when a dog is tires or bored during training and stop the training for that day, recognizing calming signals such as: yawn, lick nose, sniff floor, turn head away and avoid eye contact, ears down, tail between legs, etc.
We always end the trainings when the dog still wants to continue training, he will look forward to the next training sesion!

There is not such a thing like right or wrong when sleeping with pets.
The old believe that if the dog sleeps in bed with you, you can lose your position as "pack leader" is FALSE. It's like saying that a child doesn't respect his parents if he sleeps in bed with them.
First of all, the whole concept of the Pack leader has been proven to be wrong by science, so dont worry you wont lose that position because you never had it.
It is more likely that if the dog does not listen to you, it is because the rules you have for him are confusing, whitch means, sometimes he is allowed and sometimes he is not.
So if the dog sleeps with you or not, It is a personal decision that has to do with the preferences of each person. and if you live with more people in the house its a good idea to have a small meeting to define the dog's rules and that everyone agrees.

11/10/2022

Well, dogs do need effective leadership from us, but the whole idea of dominance is a very complex and widely misunderstood concept which almost always takes dog owners down the wrong path when applying it to their dogs' behavior.

The dog evolved from the wolf but it doesn't mean they are the same, they are very different species, with different diets, different behaviours, different needs, etc. In fact recent research has clearly indicated that the longstanding theory which maintained that alpha wolves control through aggression and relentless management is more myth than fact. These theories have been refuted by wolf biologists and if this theory is no longer considered true for wolves, then how can it be considered true for our dogs?

Most dogs simply want safety, security and those things which generally make them feel good. They know we're not dogs, and in fact they prefer us to provide effective, non-combative and punishment-free leadership. Contrary to popular belief, we do not need to try and act like what we think an alpha wolf would do when dealing with our dogs, but rather provide consistent, reward-driven learning which helps guide dogs into making the right choices – the choices we want them to make in order to succeed in our strange domestic world.

So do not get caught up in whether or not you or your dog has the upper hand in the battle for dominance. Focus instead on building a common language, rewarding the good behavior, redirecting the bad behavior, and instilling confidence in your dog to live successfully within the boundaries that you set for your household.

Did you know when dogs sniff other dog's bump they are reciving a lot of information from the other dog? if the dog is mad, scare, angry, happy, calm, etc... so next time you dog is sniffing other dog's bump... Dont stop it! intead reinforce that behavrior as is more "polite" speaking in dog language than aproaching directly to other dog's face...

Technically speaking, this is true. You can train positively or you can train with intimidation. (Within these two approaches, there are a lot of different tools and methods you can use.) What you have to ask yourself, though, is what kind of person do you want to be and what kind of relationship do you want with your dog? Punishment does work for a while, he will probably stop what he is doing, but trust will be broken. If you want to have an emotionally balanced and confident dog that trusts you and wants to be with you, the positive path is the one you should take.
*
So yes, there are different ways to train your dog, but until certain punishment-related tools and techniques are (correctly) deemed as illegal, it is left up to your individual moral compass to guide which path to follow when building a relationship with your dog.
*
The simple question is this: do you want your dogs to follow you because they want to, or because they are scared of what will happen to them if they do not? There is no place in the healthy, balanced dog/human dynamic for macho, intimidating behavior, and only positive training methods create and foster relationships with your dog based on mutual trust, respect and love rather than pain, fear and intimidation.

If I am not interested in participating in canine obedience contests, why should I teach my dog to sit?

A dog is not educated just because he knows to SIT, the dog is educated because he listen to us regardless of the situation. the SIT its only a tool for us, we ask our dog to sit when we want to stop a behavior that is socially inappropriate and at the same time incompatible with sitting, por example:

"My dog jumps on people to say hi", how do we stop our dog to jump?

1. We have to anticipate the situation, so as soon a person is coming to us we will ask the dog to SIT.
2. We must do a positive association, as soon as the dog sit we are going to reward him with a treat.
3. We need consistency which means we have to ask the dog to sit everytime a person is aproaching us.

In the future we will have a dog that sits everytime someone is comming intead of jumping on that person.

And like this example, we can use a sit for a thousand more situations to help our dog to become more socially accepted.

This is Avi in our special class of canine skills, she was learning here how to say hi raising her paw!

Even if it is not basic obedience, learning this kind of skills help the dog to be more confident, secure of himself, will give him more tools to solve any problem he may face and the most imortant this activities will increase the bond between pet and handler.

It is scientifically proven that looking into your dog's eyes will release oxitocine which is the happy hormone, when you train with your dog you are constantly making eye contact with him.

Disc Dog...

It is a dog sport, one that covers a lot of aspects that help the dog to be more balanced and secure about himself.

This sport in my opinion is one of the best as we don't need anything less a frisbee, in comparison with agility, flying ball, herding, etc they usually require a lot of equipment which is usually super expensive at the same time.

*** IMPORTANT***
In order to practice this sport as any other you have to get the approval of you veterinarian and you have to get the correct frisbee, cause the frisbee for humans can damage the dog mouth, the teeth or gums. We love the Hyperflite disc as they are super soft for the dogs, they have different line depending of the sensitivity of the dog's and two different sizes for the different breeds.

Sport for dogs are as healthy as for us!

Like it happened with most of you, also change our plans.

We were thinking bringing Bonnie to Australia in the beginning of 2021, but of course the flights were cancelled and we ran out of options. Instead Bonnie had to go to Colombia while we came up with a different plan. By the middle of the year we decided to send her to Argentina so we started to organise all the paper work Argentina ask to import pets, and finally we have a date!

20/09/2021 this is the day when the journey will begins, this day will start the countdown till the day you arrive to Australia, till the day we finally meet after 2 years of being apart, till the first day of our long life together!

I love you Bonnie and I miss you so much...

This little guy ( who is not that little) will always be my favorite puppy in the world. I met him when he was 3 months old and he was already 23kg back then. I imagine that I was present in all its stages of growth.
*
He was very educated as their family started to teach Monty all the basic obedience, and he behaved so well for his age. This breed the Newfoundland is a working dog. They are pretty lazy and the only reason is that they are water dogs! They love the water and it would be awful having a dog like this if you are not close to a lake or the sea.
*
They work in water rescue and they are so strong that can pull a Dinghy full of people.

♡ Mimmi ♡

This was the first day mimmi went to the best park in Berlin
Mimmi wasn't expecting that day and we weren't expecting that personality on this small but cute dog.

She was 4/5 months the first time and she wasn't only the happiest dog on earth she was the bravest dog ever. At the moment she arrived to the bushes she started to play with BIG BOYS! And from that moment we just felt in love with her.

Bot no everything is perfect. Mimmi was afraid of water and didn't want to step forward in to the lake. With a lot of attempts and patience mimmi learnt to swim and from that moment there was no divine power that make her go out from the water.

Nash has a very unique personality and maybe this is because his life in a van. The most comfortable place for Nash is his mom's camper-van. Which is funny because these things happens but in the other way, dogs find more confort in their own houses than in the car.

Nash and his mom used to travel around Europe, they are from France, and when Claire (-->Nash mom) decided to leave everything behind to go for an Europe road trip, she was at the same time welcoming Nash to her life. That is why he loves to be in the car and not in a house.

As they spend almost all the time together travelling we struggled a little bit with a small separation anxiety. He spent only one day with us but it was enough to figure out how lovely this doggy is ❤.

>> Boxers
Can be fine family dogs if you can proviide enough exercise and training to control their rambunctiousness when young.
>
As puppies and young adults, Boxers are animated, playful, dogs who love to romp and jump.
>
Exercise needs vary from long daily walks for more sedentary Boxers to vigorous daily romping for high-energy individuals – but not in hot weather, because Boxers are more susceptible to heatstroke than most dog breeds.
>
Boxers need consistent leadership. Their heritage, after all, is that of a strong-minded working dog. But you must handle them in an upbeat, persuasive way. Boxers are stubborn, yes, but also sensitive and proud. They will "shut down" (sulk and pout and passively refuse to do anything) if you jerk them around.

22/02/2021

Hello everyone, for those who doesn't know me yet, I am Camila, the proud fur mom of Bonnie, the dog in the picture.
Bonnie is my inspiration to this beautiful project and I want to share my story with you.
When I was living in Argentina, I used to work as voluntary with dogs and cats, so I have been standing for animals all of my life, That is why I got Bonnie, this bread is full of prejudices and I wanted to change that, in order to do that I studied basic obedience with dogs and at this point I reaffirmed that the problem is not the dog off course, because they do what they learn and that is why most of the doggies from this breed react not in the best way.
I realised how my relationship with my pet improve in a way that we become one, she knew what I wanted, and I knew what she wanted, so I had this great Idea, how would it be if we could all achieve this kind of understanding with our pets?
I want to share my knowledge with you and help you to have a better life with your dog by your side.
Furthermore, I will start to tell you how did I get here, I will post pictures of the dogs that accompanied me during this process, so you can learn more about me and at the same time see beautiful pictures of beautiful Dogs and Cats.
