We are excited to announce our new partnership with VetEducation to provide access to Continuing Professional Development (CPD) across our network of clinics.

This comes at a pivotal time with the Veterinary Practice Board of Western Australia implementing mandatory CPD points for Vets and Nurses practicing in WA.

This partnership will complement our face-to-face learning initiatives, which are being coordinated in various locations across the state. We’ll be sharing more details on these exciting opportunities soon.

At AVG, we are committed to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth, ensuring our teams are equipped with the latest knowledge to deliver exceptional care to our patients.

Leadership Unlocked: Advancing Your Journey to Practice Management Success!

We recently had another incredible day with our Practice Managers across the AVG group, focusing on one of the key pillars of our success: leadership development.

At AVG, we believe in regular, collaborative growth. As a leadership team, we are committed to sharing ideas, strengthening our skills, and improving our ability to support our teams. Whether it's understanding the numbers or refining our customer care approach, the July PM Day was filled with inspiration, actionable insights, and new tools to enhance both our clinic operations and clinical excellence.

We kicked off with a powerful session reflecting on Alison Lambert’s teachings—what an energizing reminder of the impact of consistency and culture in a veterinary practice. From there, we tackled the intricacies of P&Ls and COGS—bringing the precision of hematology and biochemistry to the business side of veterinary care.

A true highlight of the day was the Values Workshop, facilitated by Ashraf Dashlooty and Phil Horner from sp_ce

This session launched a group-wide initiative to capture the unique culture of each clinic. We are determined to protect and honour the legacy of every practice in our group, while exploring how to strengthen each clinic’s culture in a way that balances individuality and a shared sense of purpose. By doing so, we can continue to support our clinicians in delivering the best possible medicine, while nurturing an environment where everyone thrives. The energy in the room was inspiring, and we’re excited to keep these conversations alive in every clinic moving forward.

We concluded with a deep dive into communication styles, delivering exceptional customer service, and planning the next steps for our journey together.

A huge thank you to all who contributed and participated with such enthusiasm. It’s clear that when Practice Managers come together, collaborate, and challenge each other, extraordinary things happen.

Here’s to taking these insights back to our clinics and continuing to support our clinicians in providing outstanding care!

Empowering Leadership: A Day with OnSwitch and Our Practice Managers

Yesterday marked a truly inspiring day for the AVG team, as our dedicated Practice Managers came together at Rydges Perth for an exclusive leadership workshop with the dynamic Alison Lambert of OnSwitch.

This immersive session provided a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect, and re-energise as we explored what it takes to future-proof our veterinary practices. With a focus on sustainable business strategy and people-first leadership, we unpacked practical tools and ideas to ensure our clinics continue to thrive—both as successful businesses and as supportive, fulfilling workplaces.

A heartfelt thank you to the team for their thoughtful organisation and commitment to professional development. It was also a pleasure to be joined by our new Clinical Directors, Dr Jules and Dr Jasmin, whose presence and insight added further value to the day.

At AVG, we are proud to invest in our people—because strong leadership is the foundation of excellent veterinary care. We look forward to building on this momentum and continuing to support our leaders as they shape the future of our clinics and teams

In a study by Monash University, 2020 - about the occupations with highest risk of su***de, it was reported that ‘The su***de rate amongst vets is twice as high than in other health disciplines, and four times higher than the general population’. Dr Nadine Hamilton says in her study that ‘nearly 70% of veterinarians have lost a colleague or peer to su***de and 60% have sought professional help for their mental health'.

Sophie's Legacy and Flynn's walk are just two amazing initiatives, sadly each brought to life after the loss of their own. These, along with the AVA Thrive Initiative are driving support and awareness in the mental health space in the veterinary industry.

💔Sophie's Legacy is for Beloved vet Dr Sophie Putland, 33, tragically took her own life in September 2021, after industry pressures and client abuse became too much.

💔Flynn’s Walk was started in 2018 following the incredibly sad loss of Dr Flynn Hargreaves (BVSc), after taking his own life - he was only 27.

It's important we are there for each other, offer an ear, and help people to help themselves. Most importantly - to check in.

On the eve of R U Ok Day, we would like to highlight the AVA's THRIVE framework, and support available.

THRIVE is an industry-led veterinary wellness initiative that aims to support veterinarians and veterinary staff to lead satisfying, prosperous, and healthy careers.

Mental health and su***de prevention at work
An integrated wellness approach is recommended when assessing and addressing workplace or workforce mental health.

This encompasses three main areas of activity:
✅ Preventing harm and mental ill-health from psychosocial hazards in the industry.
✅ Promoting mental health by leveraging protective factors such as strengths, capabilities, and the rewards of work.
✅ Protecting individuals who experience stress and mental ill-health.

We are all responsible and accountable to prevent, promote and protect ourselves and each other. By collaborating, workplaces can manage the risks and cultivate ways of working that move towards eliminating, minimizing, and preventing psychological harm.

This framework is applicable to everyone in the veterinary community from students to people working in clinical practice, those in academia, industry, government and any other related veterinary field. We see the framework as a living document which will evolve and improve over time.
