🐾 Eevee's Road to Recovery 🐾

Meet Eevee, the brave 6-year-old dachshund who came to see us recently after her family noticed she was vomiting and not feeling her usual self. After running diagnostic tests, we diagnosed Eevee with pancreatitis—a painful and potentially life-threatening condition.

What is pancreatitis?
Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas, often triggered by fatty foods, obesity, or certain underlying health issues. It can cause severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and lethargy. If left untreated, pancreatitis can lead to serious complications and even death.

Eevee required intensive hospital care, including IV fluids to keep her hydrated and a carefully balanced cocktail of medications to manage her pain and inflammation. Her brave spirit shone through, and we’re happy to report she’s now back home! 🎉

To prevent future flare-ups, Eevee is on a special low-fat diet to help her pancreas recover and stay healthy. 🐶💖

Her journey is a reminder to keep a close eye on our furry friends and avoid feeding them high-fat foods. Early intervention can save lives!

🚨 Brave Boy Milo's Big Adventure 🚨

Meet Milo, the adorable 7-month-old groodle with a knack for keeping us on our toes! 🐾 Last week, Milo came to see us after his parents noticed he’d been vomiting and suspected he’d snacked on a few pencils. ✏️🐶

After some urgent diagnostic testing, the results pointed to an obstruction in his intestines. Milo was admitted straight away for surgery, and… well, let’s just say this cheeky boy didn’t disappoint!

💡 What did we find? You’ll have to check out the photos to see the surprising culprit—but fair warning, don’t be eating lunch while you do!

We’re thrilled to report that Milo’s surgery went smoothly, and he’s now recovering like the champ he is. 💪 He’s home with his family, enjoying some extra TLC and a special diet to help his intestines heal.

Way to go, Brave Boy Milo—you’ve earned all the belly rubs and treats! 🐕💖

🐍 Snake Bite Alert! 🐶

On Friday, we treated a dog rushed to us with a suspected snake bite. The poor pup was collapsed, and we found a bite on his upper lip. Our team acted quickly, placing a catheter and starting snake antivenom right away.

In our area, we commonly see dugites or brown snakes, so we administer a combination brown/tiger antivenom. The amount of venom injected determines how many vials are needed, and this brave dog required three.

We’re thrilled to share that he made a full recovery and happily walked out to his family! 🐾 Let’s hope he stays far away from snakes in the future.

🔔 Reminder: Please keep an eye out for snakes and keep your pets safe, especially during warmer months. If you suspect a bite, seek veterinary attention immediately.

💖 Brave Maggie 💖

Today, courageous Maggie had some lumps removed, and she was an absolute trooper! 🐾 She sailed through the surgery like a true champ and is now on the road to recovery.

We also sent off a sample for histopathology – this is a test where a lab examines the tissue under a microscope to check for any signs of disease or abnormalities. It helps us understand what the lumps are and if any further treatment is needed.

Wishing Maggie a smooth and speedy recovery – we know she’s going to bounce back stronger than ever! 💪💚

🚨 Grass Seed Alert! 🚨

It’s that time of year again – grass seeds are out in full swing, and unfortunately, they can cause some serious problems for our furry friends. Just like Bella, who came in with an ear issue and ended up having not one, but TWO grass seeds lodged in her ear. Poor girl! 😢

Thankfully, we were able to remove them, but it’s important to note that grass seeds can rupture the eardrum, which was the case with Bella. 😳 She’s now at home with some special medicated ear drops to help her recover.

If you think your pet might have a grass seed problem, don’t wait! Get them checked out by your vet ASAP – better safe than sorry! 🌿🐾

🐾 Frankie’s Ear Trouble Journey 🐾

Last month, we had the pleasure of seeing Frankie, a brave King Charles Cavalier, who came in with some ear troubles. After a thorough check-up, the vet recommended putting Frankie under anaesthetic for a deep clean of her ears to get her feeling better.

Here she is after waking up from surgery—what a trooper! 💖 Ear problems are unfortunately quite common in dogs and can be caused by a variety of factors, including the shape of the ear (floppy ears vs. upright ears), allergies, parasites, bacteria, and yeasts.

If your dog is shaking their head, scratching their ears, or seems uncomfortable, it might be time for a check-up!

🚨 Snake Bite Alert: Ted the Groodle’s Story 🚨

We had an emergency here at Gwelup Veterinary Hospital earlier this week when 2-year-old Ted, a playful Groodle, was rushed in after collapsing during a walk at Lake Gwelup. Ted had been bitten by a snake, but it wasn’t until Ted collapsed that his owners realized something was wrong.

Thankfully, Ted was brought to us in time. He was put on a drip and administered antivenom immediately. We're happy to report that Ted made a full recovery! 🐾 You can see the picture of the bite inside his mouth—it’s a reminder of how easily a snake bite can go unnoticed.

We want to remind all pet owners to be extra cautious, especially around areas like Lake Gwelup, where snakes are active. If your dog shows sudden symptoms like collapse, lethargy, or vomiting, please seek immediate veterinary attention—every second counts.

Stay safe and watchful during snake season! 🐶❤️
