🐶🏥Lily’s Radiation Journey 🐶🏥
Lovely Lily, an 8-year-old Italian Greyhound recently presented to our specialist Oncology department after a MRI scan sadly confirmed Lily had a spinal nerve mass. This resulted in loss of movement and coordination in her hind limbs and her barely being able to walk even just a few steps. Lily needed immediate treatment, so Dr Jessica Finlay consulted with Lily’s owners about her options. Given spinal decompression surgery was not an option for Lily, she commenced radiation therapy the very next day.
Lily had 3 sessions of radiation therapy which was very successful and since regained function of her hind limbs. Lily’s Mum reports that she is improving daily and is almost back to her normal energetic self, which couldn’t be better news! Here you can see Lily’s before and after videos, what an amazing difference! We hope Lily continues to do well, and look forward to seeing her at her check-ups with Dr Jessica in the future!
⚽️🤎Cheeky girl @sammy.fetch paid us a visit this afternoon after eating 150 grams of raisins - which are very toxic to our four legged friends! Luckily Sammy was able to be treated in time by our Emergency team and should make a full recovery & be back to chasing her ball in no time. 🤎⚽️
🐶Meet Gus The Tri-Pawd! Gus was diagnosed with osteosarcoma late last year which resulted in him having to have one of his front legs amputated by one of our Specialist Surgeons, Dr Kadie O’Byrne. Gus has also been receiving chemotherapy treatment with our Specialist Oncology team - a very brave boy indeed! His lovely owners recently got in touch to give us an update on Gus and his life as a three legged pooch.
“Hi there - just wanted to send a big thank you to the team who have recently been looking after my lab, Gus! He had his final chemo session last week and is really taking to life as a Tri-Pawd! Honestly been so invaluable to have such a supportive and caring team guide us through a very traumatic process, so thank you very much and we look forward to taking him in for his check up in a month!”
As you can see Gus has adjusted beautifully to life with 3 legs and we hope he continues to stay well!
🐶🎄🐱 It’s almost Christmas, so from the staff pets of PVS (and all of their humans of course!) we wish you a safe and happy Christmas and New Year. We hope Santa Paws brings all your fur babies their favourite treats this year! 🐾🎁
❤️🩹Charlie’s Story❤️🩹
Charlie, a 1 year old tabby cat first came to our Emergency Centre as a stray after being found injured on the side of the road by a member of the public. When Charlie arrived, he was not in a good way and it due to the nature of his injuries it was suspected that he had been hit by a car.
Charlie had multiple life-threatening injuries so it was important we located his owners immediately. Luckily, we scanned Charlie and he had a microchip with up to date registered details of his owners, who were no doubt worried sick about him. We contacted them and they headed straight down to our clinic to see him and have an emergency consultation with our team.
Charlie’s owners were dedicated to helping him so Charlie underwent a CT of his head, chest, and abdomen.
The CT identified the following:
- Skull fracture on the right side including his sinuses
- Brain trauma
- Bleeding in his left armpit
- Lung bruises
The first few days Charlie was receiving around the clock care with our Emergency and Critical Care Team. Charlie was not able to walk and was also placed onto a feeding tube as he was unable to eat due to his severe injuries.
Charlie continued to get better each day with the help of our incredible vets and nurses and after a few days, was able to be discharged home into his owners care, who were given detailed instructions on how to continue to care for him at home.
Charlie has been back to see our team a few times since his accident and continues to make remarkable progress. He is now able to walk and eat by himself and his owners could not be happier with his recovery and are so thankful to our team for helping Charlie. 💐
🐻Yesterday we had a very cute visit from Veterinary Dermatology Specialists patient, Mindy @mindythetoy. Mindy has been attending the clinic for over a year now, initially for bee and wasp anaphylaxis desensitisation, which has been successful! She now visits to help maintain her allergies and we just love seeing her and her family!
🐶🐰🐱Happy National Pet Day🐶🐰🐱
(although really, we think every day should be pet day!)
Show your pet some extra love today by taking them to their favorite place, giving them their fave healthy treat or simply spend some quality time together and appreciate the love and joy that they bring into our lives. #NationalPetDay
Our pets feel the heat differently to us, and unfortunately it can be hard for them to let us know when they're overheating!
It is important to know your pets limits and to be aware of ☀️ "how hot is too hot" 🔥 when it comes to outside exercise.
Remember! It's okay not to walk your dog on hot days, especially for brachycephalics who don't cope as well with the heat.
Meet Lulu,
Understandably Lulu was a little nervous for her radiographs. We took it slow and prescribed pre-imaging cuddles with a light sedation to help ease her nerves.
We aim to provide fear free experiences for our patients and want to encourage a positive experience for them.
Happy Friday!
