Just too sad! Can you help??
⭐️🐶⭐️🐶⭐️HELP⭐️🐶⭐️🐶⭐️
We urgently need experienced no pet large breed foster homes for dogs!
We are turning away call, after call, after call for dogs who are so deserving of a second chance, but sadly we have no where for them to go. There simply are not enough pet free foster carers at the moment willing to take on big dogs!
We are receiving up to 7 enquiries a day for urgent private surrenders who need their dogs “gone immediately” and it’s not slowing down. It’s the WORST we have seen it in the last decade and most of the dogs have behavioural concerns. Nearly 90% are adult or older dogs who have “never been around other dogs” and/or some who have issues people. We have had ELEVEN calls to help 13 declared dangerous dogs in 8 months who we couldn’t assist despite wanting to! While we empathise with their position, we are frustrated at the lack of responsible ownership and owners leaving it to the last moment to ask for help. What are we to do if we have no carers? 🤷🏼♀️
While we don’t like to judge, we are tired of hearing the same old stories…
•Two female dogs fighting in the home after “living together since puppies”
•Rescued off gumtree, “accidentally” became pregnant, but can “only keep one dog” and the “kids are attached to the puppy”, but not got the money to sterilise
•The parents with kids without boundaries and the dog nipped the child on the face, now the “dog has to go or be euthansed”
•The dogs that have been stuck in back yards, “never met another dog” and are “too strong to handle”
•Old dogs who can’t be kept because they are “moving to a smaller property” or “travelling overseas”
•The dogs raised as guard dogs who never leave the yards who aren’t good with men or “now aren’t good with strangers”
•The declared dangerous dogs who are owned by people who want to blame everyone
Yes sometimes circumstances change and not everyone is well educated, but we are not miracle workers and rescues should not be used as an easy way out. We will help dogs with behavioural challenges, BUT they will go on a waiting list which could be months. We also expect owners to try other means first like sterilising, seeking help from an appropriately qualified dog trainer and anti-anxiety meds.
It’s not our responsibility to pick up the mess after owners, we help because we know the majority of the dogs never had the chance to reach their full potential.
We have never received Government funding or a grant to help us, and it is expensive to assist dogs with behavioural issues. This is due to the time they spend under our care and we will not place dogs in any home. We do not have time to fundraise and we are run entirely by a VERY SMALL team of volunteers who are severely burnt out. We do our best with limited resources to support owners surrendering, our carers and adopters, but can’t do it alone.
So if you have considered fostering and are in Perth, now is the time to step up. We may not be able to save them all, but we can help some!
Please email [email protected] for a foster form. 💫
If you are unable to foster, we appreciate and are in need of donations of Y front harnesses, enrichment toys, training treats, fish oil and Meals for Mutts kibble for our allergy dogs. We are also looking for a suitably experienced passionate foster care coordinator who has the same values as us and is available during the week to help out. 🙏
