WATPA - The West Australian Team Penners Association Inc holds Ranch Sorting and Team Penning event The WATPA was born in West Australia in August 2009.

The West Australian Team Penners Association Inc promotes the sports of Team Penning and Ranch Sorting which encourage the mixing of all age groups, abilities and skill levels within a fun, social, yet competitive atmosphere. Our emphasis is family fun, playing with our horses and cattle in a controlled environment. Our inaugural event was in October, 2009 and from that event on we have relied on

sponsorships to furnish our prize pool. We are totally grateful to our sponsors and promote and advertise their products whenever we can. Sponsors and donators are given a link on this website and event sponsors are given advertising in the form of banners and announcements at our club events. We expect to run about 6 events a year on a bi monthly basis in Chittering WA. Everyone is welcome – it’s a great spectator sport and watching is free. Our membership season runs from the 1st of Decemberr to the 30th of November. So get your membership in and start having some fun!

Our committee members are all just a bunch of people who love our sport and are doing their best to keep our beloved club going.

We are ALL very busy during our day to day lives and do our best to get back to you in a timely manner.

We are not run like a “normal” business and we won’t be able to get back to you within minutes or even hours most days- if you haven’t heard back within a week, please email again and rest assured you WILL be contacted 🙂

We are also coming up to vote in a new committee and would LOVE more members to come on board to help ease the load.

If you are a social media buff, or have some mad admin skills, love working cattle out back or have some fab ideas to implement to make the club better, we are CALLING YOU to come join the committee- many hands make light work and we are always trying to learn, improve and grow!!!

The committee will be voted in at our AGM on Saturday 7th December 2024 - nomination forms on our WATPA website under the “meet the committee” tab.

Nominations are now being invited and received with gratitude for WATPA’s annual “Karl Buckley Award”.

This award is to be presented to a WATPA MEMBER, nominated by their peers, for being an outstanding role model in our Ranch Sorting community.

Somebody who goes over and above “just competing”.
Somebody who encourages others and promotes the sport.
Somebody whose horsemanship is admired.
Somebody who embodies what it is to be a “Ranch sorter”

Nominations are accepted via messenger and email [email protected]

Committee members cannot be nominated.

The member with the most nominations will be presented this prestigious award at our end of year presentations to be held Saturday 7th December.

Memberships are due 31st November.
Please get your renewals in BEFORE 31st so that you can begin accumulation of your points for the next WATPA season.
Benefits of membership include:
Discounted clinics.
Covers for your insurance ALL WA ranch sorting club competitions - allowing you to accumulate NATIONAL standing points and some phenomenal end of year STATE Prizes.
(you don't need to be a financial member at each club - but being a member of each club means you collect points to each club's end of year prizes!!).
You are entitled to vote for and stand on the committee.
Once you have attended 3 ranch sort meets the membership fee has paid for itself - no need to pay day memberships.
You will need to fill out both Membership renewal forms and the WAIVER.

Our inaugural event was in October, 2009 and since then we have been enjoying Team Penning and Ranch Sorting. We welcome sponsorship and will do all we can to support your business if you partner with us. WATPA offers a 50% payout on events, and we will help you along the way with clinics and training days. We expect to run about 6 events a year on a bi monthly basis in the lovely Chittering Valley WA. Everyone is welcome – it’s a great spectator sport and watching is free. Our membership season runs from the 1st of December to the 30th of November. So get your membership in and start having some fun!
