This is the second Showa spawn of the season. A young pair of 3yr olds which still contain predominately the 'JJ' Line which goes back to fish I got from Graham Warwick in Sydney over 20 yrs ago.

My apologies to those at the Southern Branch on Wednesday night. I took this fish to the Table Show max. size is 25cm and I did suggest it was over and offcourse it was!!. In my defence,in a rush and in the dark when catching up. But embarrassing and first time in over 20yrs I did not measure bah! Good meeting by the way and Luke in the chair doing a good job. You should get there if you can.

I have a soft spot for Platinum kin Matsuba. Look nothing at this young age. They are a plain fish no pattern but but can grow up to be very stunning .

One of the better Showa from last years spawn. Looks like a female (I hope) For those that are new to the hobby skin quality always in front of pattern. This fish has good skin. Having said that no point having a Showa which is white! 😂

Sorted some of last years Kohaku this morning , now approx. 14 months.
1st not a show fish but already 52cm ....female breeder.
The rest are all around the 42cm- 45cm mark

The parents of the Sanke spawn for this year. This was a huge spawn. Interesting the Japanese generally breed with young males. This is a huge spawn and all the young males outperform the older fish in fertility rates!! Not good for us old guys😂

Apologies to those who follow AUSSIEKOWA for the lack off posting recently. Photo below goes some way to explaining. One feed tray of Kojaku and there are 6 trays (so 50,000 or so fry) and 6 more spawns so flat out!
Second photo are of the parents both of which are home bred and have won in the Show

Good weather at last!. I decided to take the old Showa male (Tripple J) 15yrs out of retirement but not sure he would have any fertility so put a young half brother male in with him. He was quite jealous and consistantly put himself between the young male and the female. Spawn seemed to go ok and they were spawning 8am to 4.30pm so a good number of eggs. Now the nail biting wait to see the fertility. If fertile this will be a good spawnI believe

Like most I have been waiting on good weather but finally put a spawn down this weekend. Going Kohaku this year and hope to do two spawns. This is a 87cm female; I use this line to get size her mother ended up at 88cm. The two young males I use to get colour...fingers crossed!

Sorted some of my 3yr old males this morning in case I wish to use them this year. First one is my old Showa male (12yrs) who's father (Australian Koi Farm) and mother (Graham Warwick Sydney) This pair breed the most successful line of Showa in Australia with numerous GC and Variety Champions bred from them. I think I may bring him out of retirement. The second is a young Kin Gin Rin Male Showa, third another young Showa and finally an interesting Goshiki which I am trying to develop with the Beni plates free from any black pigmentation. Only 20yrs to go with this!

I thought this young sanke was going to be a female but I am now convinced it is a male! Came from the same spawn as this years Young Champ at the KSWA Show. Great quality skin. For once a decent photo from me!!

One thing that was really bugging me was relatively expensive UV's that are pretty average and last about 2-3 yrs.
So I decided to make my own!. The basis is a 75watt submersible UV. Fitted through a 100mm DWV, tee piece lid. Then 100mm extension piece of pipe to accommodate the UV lamp length (the body if you like) On the bottom end a cross over from 100mm DWV to 40mm reticulation. To top and bottom outlet I have reduced to 40mm retic pipe. I can put an elbow onto inlet (top) and outlet (bottom) and face them in any direction which allows me to pick up my pipework from pump and back to the pond. The ABUV can be fitted vertical or horizontal or anything in between!! Dependant on the type of UV purchased the UV lamp can be changed in 5 minutes. Mine been running 2yrs+ and its a winner. Call me if you need any assistance but I made this in 2hrs including painting.

Another of our Champions. This is a young female sanke 52cm which won Young Champion in a class of over 20 fish. Sanke so difficult to breed and this girl has terrific sashi and kiwa on a perfect white base, with no 'freckles'. The pattern is open and attracts the eye. Future champion in the making?

AB's big winner at this years KSWA Annual Show
Grand Champion 76cm female Kohaku. She has average pattern but more importantly she has tremendous skin quality and body shape.
