This affectionate and energetic girl is looking for experienced and loving owners to guide her in becoming the best version of herself. Aurelie has so much potential and loves to learn, especially with positive reinforcement. She would benefit from working with one of our recommended trainers to fine-tune her doggy social skills, as she can get a little frustrated when seeing other pups. 🧠🐕

We hope everyone is managing to stay cool on this very hot day.

Our dogs were lucky to all be walked before 9am, thanks to an amazing turn out of volunteers, and are now chilling in their kennels with underground cooling and paddle pools being cared for by our fabulous team of staff.

Our 2025 New Year's resolution is continue to save and then adopt out as many dogs as we possibly can. We know with your help we will achieve our goal.

Here's just a few of our pooches wishing you all a very happy start to 2025 - we open again tomorrow at 11am and can't wait to see you then.

We hope everyone had a fantastic celebration last night! Just a quick reminder that we are CLOSED to the public today, but don’t worry—our dogs are being pampered and cared for by our amazing team.

🐾 We reopen tomorrow (11am-3pm) for adoptions!

If your New Year’s resolution is to adopt a deserving shelter dog, come visit us tomorrow and meet the wonderful dogs of the Refuge.

End of Year Rescue Recap 🎉

What a year it’s been! Thanks to your support, we rescued an incredible 1,655 dogs and puppies in 2024, giving them a second chance at life.

Even on Christmas Eve, while many were preparing for celebrations, our team saved 6 dogs and 1 puppy from local pounds. Instead of facing a lonely and uncertain holiday, they enjoyed warmth, love, and cuddles behind the scenes at the Refuge. While they weren’t ready for adoption just yet, they got plenty of toys and festive cheer to make their day special!

Among these lucky rescues are four beautiful dogs now ready to find their forever homes:

🐾 Klaus – 1-year-old large mixed breed, full of energy and love.
🐾 Zappy – 3-year-old medium mixed breed, very cuddly and full of beans.
🐾 Augusta – 4-year-old large mixed breed, the best couch companion.
🐾 Bethany – 2-year-old Mastiff who’s sweet and affectionate.

Keep Your Dogs Safe This New Year’s Eve 🎆

Fireworks may be festive for us, but they can be frightening for our furry friends. Sadly, we see a rise in lost and injured dogs during this time as they try to escape the loud noises. Here’s how you can help keep your dog safe and calm:

🐶 Bring them inside – Close all doors and windows to secure your home.

🐶 Add background noise – Turn on the TV or radio to help muffle the sound of fireworks.

🐶 Distract them – Offer a treat, lickimat, or toy to keep their focus off the noise.

🐶 Update their ID – Ensure your dog is wearing a collar with a tag and their microchip details are current.

Cooee the 7-year-old Dingo is in search of a calm and understanding forever home. 🐾💛

This unique boy has a sweet nature but can be aloof, preferring things on his own terms. It takes him time to adjust to new people and environments, so he’ll need patient and experienced owners who can give him the space he needs to feel comfortable. 🌿🐕

Cooee’s ideal home would be quiet, with minimal visitors and a secure, dingo-proof yard (or safe indoor space) to keep him feeling safe and secure. Adults or teens 16+ would suit this boy. Once settled, he could likely adapt to full-time hours alone, provided his needs are met before and after.

New owners with a little knowledge of dingo behaviour —or a willingness to learn—will be best suited to help Cooee thrive. He’s a special boy who deserves a loving, understanding home where he can feel truly at peace. 🏡💖

Doug is a 2-year-old Mastiff with a big heart and an even bigger appetite for love—and treats! 🐾💛

This gentle giant made the journey all the way from Geraldton to find his forever home in the city. Doug is looking for a quiet, experienced household where he can take his time to settle in. Once he’s comfortable, he’ll show you just how affectionate and loyal he can be. 🥰

Doug thrives with positive, reward-based training and loves learning new things (especially if treats are involved!). 🍖🧠 He’ll need about 1.5 hours of daily exercise, mental enrichment, and continued socialisation to bring out his best self.

Doug would be happiest in a calm, adult-only home or one with teens aged 16+, with minimal visitors and plenty of time to spend together. He’s best suited for owners who can work from home or have flexible schedules, and who are open to working with one of our recommended trainers to help him shine. 🌟

We’ve had so many wonderful foster feedbacks recently, as many of our long-term dogs have been lucky enough to enjoy a much-needed break from kennels during the holiday season while people have had time off work. 💛🐾

One standout foster story we just had to share is about Buddy T, a 4-year-old Mastiff/American Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix who captured his foster family’s hearts.

They said Buddy T is a loving, loyal, and playful boy who bonded quickly with his foster family. He handled being left alone for short periods exceptionally well, especially with access to safe spaces and fun games to keep him entertained. His favourite activities included tug-of-war, playful zoomies in the garden, and carrying around his cherished teddy, showing off his fun and affectionate side. 🧸🎾
He’s a dream to play with—great at toy retrieval and not a resource guarder—and a quick learner who thrives with positive reinforcement (treats are definitely his love language!). Buddy impressed his foster by learning household rules like staying out of the kitchen when asked and showed potential for more, like sitting before crossing roads. 🌟

On walks, Buddy is a leash champ with only minor pulling, and he’d thrive in a home with active adults or older teens who will include him in their adventures. Loyal and full of personality, Buddy T has so much love to give and deserves a home where he can shine.

It’s hard to believe this gem is still waiting for his forever home. If you’re looking for an affectionate, playful, and eager-to-learn companion, Buddy T could be the perfect match for you. 🐶💛

✨💛 SUNDAY NIGHT PUPDATE 💛✨

"Long overdue update on Mr Sharp (now Sharpy) after his adoption!

We first visited Dog Refuge Home in July on a spontaneous trip, and while looking through all the kennels we instantly noticed Mr. Sharp (now called Sharpy) friendly, kind, and handsome face of his and we knew then that he could be the one for us.

A week later, we came back to check on the same kennel and panicked as he wasn't there. But luckily for us he was only relocated and from then we took Sharpy home and the rest was history.

Sharpy is an 8-year-old Shar-pei cross that came into our lives. Although he is a senior, he still has as much energy and loves his long walks (and often slows down when he notices that we're going home just to prolong his walk).

When he came to us, at first was quite shy and reserved and had some dog reactivity but since then, he's progressed to be attention seeking, loving cuddles, and getting better with other dogs. He's been such a good boy and been a very good big brother to a recently fostered puppy showing him the ropes of being a house doggo.

He loves his belly rubs and rolling on the grass but loves his frozen chicken necks a lot more. He's now showing more of his quirky side (including his fart bombs occasionally, and giving us side eyes!) as time pass.

Bean’s foster family can’t stop raving about her sweet and loving nature! 🐾💖

This 6-month-old deaf mixed breed puppy has been a joy in their home, showing how beautifully she thrives with patience, love, and the company of other dogs. Her foster says she’s fantastic with children and dogs of all sizes, calling her a “snuggle cuddlepie” who’s happiest cuddling on the couch or exploring on long bush walks. 🛋️🌿

With another dog in the home, Bean is described as “easy peasy and gorgeous,” and her foster has so many adorable photos of her snuggling with her doggy friends—big and small. She’s a perfect fit for a family with a dog-savvy companion pup and kids aged 10+ who can give her the gentle care she needs. 💕🐕

Bean may be deaf and have some visual impairments, but her love and zest for life shine brighter than anything. With the right family, she’ll grow into the most loyal and loving companion.

Though she’s strong and confident, Delilah can be a bit shy with new people and needs a gentle approach and positive reinforcement. Once she’s comfortable, she’s incredibly affectionate and loves to bond with her family. 🛋️💖

She would do best in a home with teens 13+ and experienced owners who can guide her training, especially on walks (a harness is a must!).

Delilah enjoys meeting polite male dogs but prefers respectful, calm companions. With daily exercise and mental enrichment, she’ll make a loyal, loving addition to a calm household. 🐕🌟
