As far as footage goes, this probably won't rate highly on your 'watch meter' but that's actually the point I'm trying to make.
Not all dog jobs are going to happen in the daylight.....in fact 90% of them won't, hence why I'm out here in the cold & rain soaked night completing Article Searches.
If you don't give these dogs exposure to working at night than how can you trust that they wont give you random reactions at the sharp end, when it counts.

A snippet from K9SA DAZ working the Focus Box.
Malinois are crazy smart & work out patterns fast.
At approximately the 40 second mark, DAZ freezes- this is to let me know that he has finished the kibble in the box & is ready for the next distraction/reward.
But he had actually only finished half the reward & was trying to get more.
What I do to counter this is simply apply another distraction & he has to finish the previous reward/kibble before we move on.
Note the high level of excitement/anticipation he has for the next jackpot but despite this, keeps maintaining focus inside the box, knowing that this is the pathway to get what he wants.
Spiking dopamine in anticipation of reward is the key to success

I was going to start this little write up with - 'nothing special going on here' - but actually, taking advantage of these beautiful Perth mornings to just throw the ball for K9SA DAZ while adding little bits of obedience IS something special.
It doesn't all have to be world changing training......just enjoying these simple things can help balance out the young dog but also, can help balance out YOU as a trainer as well....enjoy it!

I released a clip of K9SA DAZ showing stability once locating an article, at the beginning of the week.
I thought I'd go back a step & show you K9SA DUSTY getting an introduction to the article.
There are many ways to introduce a dog to the article but I simply shape the desired behaviour as I'm quite time poor so it creates value in the item quickly.
A couple of side notes -
•Trace from Perth Scent Work is handling DUSTY while I stand off to the side (record the session) as I want to create independence from myself
•I know full well that DUSTY could do this session 'off-leash' easily but he needs to learn the value of completing a task 'on-leash' & not get distracted by it.
Once we build value in the item, we add stability to the picture.
