𝗙𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗲𝗱 𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗟𝗬 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗠𝘂𝗺-𝘁𝗼-𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗸𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗲.
🐶 𝗗𝗢𝗧𝗧𝗜𝗘 is pregnant so time is critical. She desperately needs a safe space to welcome her puppies into the world. A kennel is no place for babies. We do not know her expected date yet, but she will have a full vet check-up when she comes into our care, and we can provide all food and puppy supplies. Dottie is a timid dog; she deserves all the care and comfort during this crucial time. Also, Dottie has never been walked on a lead so will need a patient carer, preferably with puppy experience. Older children only as nursing dogs can be protective of their babies which might be a potential risk to younger kids.
🐶 𝗟𝗨𝗞𝗔 is super sweet and, at under 8 months old, is just a fun-loving boy. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. He is social with other dogs and loves to play, so he would love a doggy sibling, but expect some puppy exuberance. This guy is young and has plenty of energy so would love a family that will take him on adventures, continue his training and give him lots of things to do. Luka is a goofy, affectionate and friendly pooch who deserves a chance. Adoption is available but we are asking for a foster home initially so we can get him sterilised, etc.

🐶 𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧 𝗢𝗥 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥 🐶
Ava has been boarding with Canine Impact since early November. We are very appreciative, but we cannot afford to keep paying for this. Not finding a foster home sucks, but for Ava it has been a big win as she has received over 3 months of daily professional training.
Ash the trainer had this to say, “Ava doesn’t really have anything left for us to help her with, she’s just kind of hanging out.” “Ava, I can’t fault, the only thing she struggles with is a bit of over arousal in the kennels some days, otherwise she is doing amazing. She can pass dogs out in public, good at cafes, etc. No reactions when cuddling and other dogs come up. We have a small Boston Terrier in, and she is neutral to her as well!”
We need to move Ava as soon as possible to free up the training spot for other dogs that need help. She just needs to be given a chance.

🎅 As the end of 2024 draws near, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a safe and joyous Christmas. 🙏 We would also like to thank every one of our supporters who have helped us throughout the year. This may have been with donations of products, cash, time or services; or maybe you nominated us to receive your recycling proceeds at Containers for Change or supported our sausage sizzles; or perhaps it was just spreading the word about our dogs looking for new homes. We appreciate it all! ❤ It is only with help from people like you that we can continue to do what we do for the dogs.

At just 17 weeks of age, Domino and Jenga are both on the lookout for a forever home where they can grow up and continue their training. They are affectionate and playful little guys who enjoy the company of other dogs and people. They are very good with the resident dogs in their foster home, which makes them ideal companions or playmates for your furry friends. They love to explore and sniff around and are always up for an adventure. Both Domino and Jenga would fit in well with a family that can give them lots of love, affection and attention. If you think that you can provide a loving home for either of them, then they would love to meet you!

🐾 Where would we be without Pet Circle? 🐶 Well, we know our dogs would be hungrier and we’d be having to do more fundraising to feed them, and neither our dogs nor our volunteers would be sleeping so well at night. 🙏 So, thank you, thank you, thank you. 🙏 We are always so grateful when 𝗣𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗶𝗿𝗰𝗹𝗲 comes to our aid just when we need it the most. 🥰 Receiving quality food for our pooches in foster care is so appreciated. You are all amazing. Thank you so much from all the DBBR dogs and puppies. Thanks too to Polly who supervised the collection, and ensured it was delivered where needed! 😘

Two very sweet, socialised, healthy 13 week old pups recently arrived and are looking for their furever homes. Staffy x Border Collie brothers, 𝗗𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗼 and 𝗝𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮, are enjoying their time getting snuggles and playing with the other doggies in foster care. They are cheeky and mischievous but full of love and joy, just waiting to bring happiness to your family. There is no love like the love of a rescue dog. 💙

Lilypad Photography have launched a new project called the “𝑷𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒛𝒊 𝑨𝒓𝒕 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒋𝒆𝒄𝒕” and are on the hunt for Perth’s most gorgeous, lovable (and maybe a little diva-ish) pooches to help raise funds for us, 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀 𝗕𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗰𝘂𝗲 𝗜𝗻𝗰.

Your FABULOUS furbaby will feature alongside other doggos of the same breed or similar characteristics in a one-of-a-kind “𝑷𝒖𝒑𝒑𝒂𝒓𝒂𝒛𝒛𝒊” Pawtrait Artwork created at Lilypad Photography.

UPDATE: Thank you all for your applications. Archie has now gone on trial. Preference was given to an active household with somebody home more often than not and with a similar dog who got on amazingly well with Archie. If, for any reason, the trial doesn't work out, we will be back in touch with those we shortlisted.

🐾 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮 𝘀𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗴? 🐾
Meet the irresistible little scruff, Archie. Weighing in at just under 10kg, this small West Highland White Terrier is charming. 🥰 He may be 9 years old, but he seems blissfully unaware of this fact. The way he trots about with proud purpose is so endearing. He is dog social but really loves his people and doesn’t want to be anywhere but by their side. He walks well but is not yet ready to retire from his adventures, so we recommend on leash walks only. When relaxation time arrives his favourite pastime is watching documentaries on TV, but he’s also partial to the occasional period drama too! He cannot be trusted to share a home with a cat.

💙 Do you have time to dedicate to this darling to make his life as complete as he will undoubtedly make yours? Archie is dying to meet you and make you the centre of his little world. In turn, this beautiful soul will provide a wealth of love, entertainment and the type of steadfast loyalty only a dog like Archie has the heart to provide. 💘

A HUGE thank you 🙏😘👏 to Lyka Pet Food for recently donating some top quality food for the dogs in our care to enjoy. Your support is very much appreciated. This was so well timed and very much needed as we had 2 litters of puppies, together with other adult dogs rescued from regional pounds. We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to your team for thinking of us. Your kindness and generosity ensured that our dogs not only had full bellies but also got to enjoy some delightful treats. 🐕 𝗨𝗣𝗗𝗔𝗧𝗘! For our followers who have been wondering how Matilda, the Pilbara pup with the broken leg, is doing, this update is for you, but we also want to thank all of you who donated and made any of this possible.

📣 Firstly, the big news is that Matilda is now called Ruby and has been adopted by her foster family. 💟 They just couldn’t imagine giving her up and she is getting on great with Buddy, the resident dog who they also rescued from 𝘿𝙤𝙜𝙨 𝘽𝙚𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙙 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙨 𝙍𝙚𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙚 3 years ago.

Now, news on the leg… 🦵 unfortunately, the initial setting of the bones was not as successful as we had hoped it would be, so Ruby had to return to 𝙍𝙞𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙪𝙢 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙧𝙖𝙡 𝙎𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙨 for a more invasive surgery to have 6 pins inserted and a cage to support them. The good news is that their team are now very happy with Ruby's progress and have even given the OK for some cone free play time, which she was thrilled about, so we thought it a perfect chance to give you an update.

👨‍⚕️ There will be more for Ruby to endure when the pins are removed, but she has been the best patient and taken it all in her stride.

Matilda, one of the 6 Pilbara puppies we had agreed to help, has exited her pen awkwardly and was obviously in pain. Thankfully, her foster carer was able to have her seen by the 𝗧𝗼𝗺 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗩𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗖𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰 within the day (a feat in itself as anybody who has ever tried to book an appointment with these remote vets would know!) who confirmed that her tibia and fibula were fractured and that she would need specialist attention in Perth. See X-ray in comments. Thankfully the team at 𝗦𝗔𝗙𝗘 𝗞𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗮 helped with organising a flight and she flew in from Paraburdoo yesterday. We took her directly to 𝗥𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘂𝗺 𝗥𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 who had a surgeon and nurse return to the clinic especially for us after hours. After assessing her they decided not to wait but instead to work on her leg straight away. A broken leg on a pup this young is both good and bad. The good side is that their bones heal quickly, and she should not have any lasting issues from it. The bad side is, because of the rapidly growing bones, the normal procedures with pins, plates and casts can’t be used which means she must be carefully monitored and kept rested for a few weeks. We are thankful that Matilda’s prognosis is very good, but this emergency has been a costly exercise and used funds that we, frankly, just don’t have. We would love to raise $1,000 to go towards Matilda’s vetwork, flight and physio if deemed necessary once her leg heals. We would also like to say a heartfelt thank you to all the people who assisted with this emergency, and made Matilda a priority. We have many years’ experience in dog rescue and are dedicated to continuing to make a difference. We are a foster-based rescue in Perth, Western Australia. Our passionate team of volunteers give their time to help dogs live better lives and find them forever homes. Dogs Behind Bars is a non-profit rescue organisation, and all our funding comes from donations and fundraisers. Several of the dogs in our care require urgent vet care, and any donations made to our rescue would be put towards helping these dogs recover so they can find their forever family!
