Sadly the Pilbara is losing a petrol station /roadhouse shortly due to closure.

Fortesque Roadhouse has announced they will be closing the doors on by the 22nd September.

This will have a major impact on those travelling who don’t know the area.

I’ve taken time to work out distances for you.

For those heading North past Carnarvon.

Here’s a basic run down of Kilometeres from Carnarvon to each town that has unmanned or manned petrol stations available.

Fuel watch /petrol Spy has details of best price, locations and open times.

Having lived in the Pilbara for a few years and stopping to assist people who have run out of fuel.

My biggest peice of advice to anyone travelling.

•Fill up at every roadhouse or petrol station you pass.

•Carry 40Ltrs of your fuel type or upgrade to long range tank, if your vehicle allows for a long range tank.

•Carry Cash on you at all times. I always travel with $200-$300 as some stops may not have eftpos available.

•Make sure you have plenty of water. It’s a VERY long wait for a tow truck, if you can get one at all.

•Upgrade to the highest level of road side assistance possible and double check their terms and conditions for towing.

During peak season there will be long queues of people lined up for diesel at Nanutarra. This is the LAST major fuel stop.
Next major stops are Karratha / Tom Price / Paraburdoo.

I’ve helped people towing caravans and who were not expecting to run out of Fuel but the head winds can become very strong, these have been a killer to their fuel consumption especially between Minilya, Burkett Rd & Nanutarra roadhouse.

Anyway, I hope this helps those who don’t know the area and are planning their trip North.

Happy Travels and stay safe people x
