Dear lovely customers. Final
opportunity to say a huge thank you to you all for the many years of support. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed creating collars and leads for you four legged family members Many are aware I have had a major health issue and so far I’ve won that battle. I do work full time too so along with cost increases as mentioned Essential Collars is now closed & I’ve moved on all my supplies.

WE ARE CLOSING
We have made the hard decision to permanently close down Essential Collars.
It has been an absolute pleasure creating unique collars and leads for your pets however with the costs involved in obtaining supplies, and the cost of insurance, it is not feasible to continue.

Urgent help needed by SABBR.

Stressed. Tired. Exhausted even. Sad. Angry. Horrified. Worried. Burnt out… Words to describe those working in dog rescue right now.

We thought 2022 was bad, but with the horrendous rental/home crisis hitting our state ( Mark McGowan , we need your help!), inflation and people, let alone animals trying to survive, we have seen requests for rescue help double in 2023.

On average, SABBR alone is getting 20 private surrender requests a week. People with nowhere else to go for their often beloved dogs. But we can’t help them, we’re struggling to stay afloat with the pound saves, dogs dumped after rescues like us turn them away. Each week, we’re seeing roughly 10 dogs in pounds and that’s just the few pounds we have a relationship with.

We can’t save them all - we’ve come to realise that. But we’re damn trying! What we need are FOSTER homes. No dogs, with dogs, with cats, kids or no kids, working any hours. Secure fencing and a big heart is all we ask.

Who’s got room for Heidi in their family? Look at that face! ❤️ 🐾

Dear diary,

I’m Heidi, a Staffy/Kelpie blend with a bit of an identity crisis. I mean I don’t have pawrents, a surname of my own.. heck we don’t know my DOB. They are telling me somewhere between 1-2, old enough to know where the bathroom is, probably not old enough to distinguish shoes v chews!

I’d describe myself as easygoing through this journey, don’t mind other dogs and don’t mind children 8yrs+. Will happily live with either/both, I’m not fussy. Haven’t met a cat yet but does a parrot in a cage count?!

I overheard these guys talking about my ‘flaws’.. FLAWS! The cheek! Apparently my separation anxiety leaves a little to be desired. No FT workers but doesn’t mind the few hours alone… I’m working on it ok!

Thank god they made up for it when they listed my good points. The goodest girl - duh! Walks well on lead. Loves a snuggle. Gentle with food. Loves fetch. Super duper excited when you come home (ok another thing to work on!) Very happy getting pats from everyone and mostly, my love of chasing flies. Entertainment 101.

I guess all I’m trying to say diary, is I just want someone to pick me, for me.. cheeky flaws and all!!

Hi everyone
So as you have all no doubt noticed things have been very quiet for a while so I thought I’d update you.
My chemo treatment for stage 3b bowel cancer finished last December followed by final surgery in January.
Then it was time to get back to my full time work. Truly blessed to have my job after 10 months off. I’m currently in full remission & ready to start some creating. There may be some changes moving forward eg ready made items available for purchase so if you have any ideas on what you’d like to see made please write a comment.

TOWELS AND TOYS NEEDED! 🐶🐾

We are in desperate need of towels for the shelter animals! Our stocks are very low!

If you have some old towels that you're intending to throw away or you have a stockpile that go unused, please consider donating them to the shelter animals! They will be very grateful!

We are also very low on toys for the dogs in our shelter and in foster care! We have had an influx of dogs and puppies over the last few weeks and we need some more toys to keep them happy and enriched.

Wishing all you wonderful supportive customers and families, two and four legged, a wonderful happy healthy and safe Christmas break.
2021 has been a tough year for many, including me, for various reasons. You may have noticed it’s been a bit quiet on the Essential Collars sewing/creative front . I hadn’t let many know I was diagnosed with Stage 3b bowel cancer in May 2021. We need to get younger people tested but that’s a post for another time. Following surgery, chemo started then three more surgeries. I’m so blessed that I recently found out that I currently have no evidence of disease 🥳 I have one more surgery soon and then it’s time to get healthy and move forward. 🙏👍🏻
So 2022 here we come! I have many ideas for new items I’d like to make for your four legged family members. If you have any requests or ideas of what you’d like available please message me.
Enjoy your Christmas, hug your family/loved ones tight, spend time with them - it’s the most precious gift.

Sweet Ivy was adopted last week but now the lady doesn't want her. And wants her gone NOW. And she doesn't care how... 😔

Her original carer cannot take her back. We can't put her in kennels as there's no space. She needs a quiet home due to her leg injury. 🏡

Who can help poor Ivy? She's only 8 months old and desperately needs some stability in her life.🐶

Good morning everyone. As Halloween is now upon us I thought sharing the information below was needed as we sometimes forget how festivities can affect our four legged family members, I think more so for anyone who has a slightly anxious pooch like I do. ❤️🐾

Halloween horror for hounds
Halloween seems to be getting bigger each year in Australia. Many dogs can have a very hard time during Halloween for several reasons.

The good news is there are a few steps we can take to help our canine friends stay safe and happier during the festivities.

One reason dogs have a hard time with Halloween are the costumes. But why are costumes so scary for dogs?

Well, most dogs first recognise people by their outline and movement. When we put on a costume it changes our outline. Even our own dog may not recognise us at first and may not even recognise the shape as that of a ‘human’ either. This can be very scary for some dogs.

Noise during the festivities can also be scary for some dogs. Strangers approaching the dog’s home can also cause a lot of concern to some dogs (which may be amplified if they are wearing costumes).

Here are some tips to help our canine friends
🎃If you are going out in costume, consider putting the costume on away from home
🎃If you need to put your costume on at home,
- Let your dog sniff and investigate each part of the costume if they wish too
- Let your dog watch you put the costume on
- Talk and reassure your dog while you are wearing your costume.
- Start telling your dog they are good if you have been in a different room and are about to enter the room your dog is in.

If your dog fears costumes, noises, strangers or fears new things
🎃 If you have been working with a behaviourist follow your management and/or behaviour modification plan
🎃When people come to the front door trick or treating keep your dog away from the front door (try to avoid your dog seeing people in costumes).
🎃Close blinds so your dog can’t see people wearing scary costumes on the streets.
🎃Keep your canine friend inside and stay home with them (or have someone well known to the dog stay with them)
🎃Play music or background sounds to help muffle the sound of the festivities on the street and in surrounding houses.
🎃Close blinds, window and doors. To reduce sounds and stop your dog seeing people passing by in scary costumes.
🎃Give your dog lots of enrichment activities to keep them occupied and focussed on something other than what is going on outside.
🎃You could use ADAPTIL spray to help comfort your dog.
🎃If this is likely to be a really stressful night for your dog talk to your behaviour veterinarian or general practice veterinarian about whether medication may be warranted and suitable.
🎃Place a sign at the front gate/letter box etc asking people to not approach your home, if your dog will be okay with it you could set up a trick or treat ‘station’ near the foot path, so people don’t need to approach your home.
🎃Unless your dog has been carefully conditioned to wearing costumes and loves it, please resist the temptation to dress up you dog. Most dogs will appreciate this.
🎃Keep lollies etc well out of reach of dogs.
