The team at Canning Vale Vet wishes our clients and fur babies a wonderful Christmas break.
Most important event happened this year that our beloved nurse Sophie has been blessed with a healthy son. We wish all the best to Sophie and her son.
We managed to have some good food last Sunday.
Thank you 🙏🏽 so much for your support to us. We have definitely learned better and equipped better. We have recently procured a high quality ultrasound machine. This means we can perform ultrasound anytime on your pets for a quick scan.
It has been awesome to meet new clients everyday. It is so satisfactory to be the vet of big families.

Last Tuesday Sir Dexter underwent a procedure for a condition called Cherry Eye.

Pr*****ed third eyelids in dogs can lead to irritations & infections. It is essential to treat the condition as soon as possible to minimize permanent damage to the eye or third eyelid gland. This is critical because the third eyelid gland produces up to 50% of the watery portion of the tear film. Without adequate tear production, your dog is much more likely to develop ‘dry eye’, which can seriously impair vision.

The breeds most affected include the Cocker Spaniel, English Bulldog, French Bulldog, Boston Terrier, Beagle, Bloodhound, Lhasa Apso, Shih Tzu, Pug, and other brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds. Burmese and Persian cats can also be affected by a cherry eye.

Attended 2 days of BOAS surgery at University of Queensland to improve the quality of life of pugs, frenchies and many other brachycephalic dogs.
The conclusion was that these improvement surgeries can not make the upper respiratory tract of these dogs normal but can definitely improve it tremendously.
Training was provided by Dr Arthur House (in photo with Ram) who is leading surgeon for Brachycephalic surgeries.
Wait for the next post about brachycephalic dogs.

Welcoming our boy Fat Cat back home 🐾🐈‍⬛

Today we had to make the tough decision to say goodbye to our old boy ‘Fat Cat’ also known as Sumo by only Dr Ram.

Dr Ram rescued Fat Cat nearly 5 years ago from a family that decided to euthanise him so they could travel and not have to pay for a Cattery.

Dr Ram was fond of Fat Cat as soon as he met him and he asked them to surrender him to us. He was blind, old and nearly 10kg. Hence the name ‘Sumo’.

Fat Cat has been a huge part of our clinic, from talking to the nurses in the morning begging for food, tormenting all the cats that come into our clinic, the surgery help whilst he waits at the door for us to come to reception, and also sometimes eating our lunch when it’s left unattended.

Fat Cat was actually quite untouchable when he came to Canning Vale Vet, he would often hiss and try to bite the staff. However in the last few years he warmed up to everyone and even let our clients pat him.

Unfortunately in the past year Fat Cat dealt with some eye issues, his cataracts progressed and got worse. He also had glaucoma in his left eye. His eye got quite painful so we had to remove it.

He recovered very well from that procedure, however in the past few months he dealt with weight loss, lost his appetite, and also suffered a severe infection in his socket which he scratched and created an abscess.

With as much medical management possible, with 2 vets and our nursing team doing our best to care for him, we made the hardest decision to put him to sleep.

Fat Cat passed away peacefully at our clinic surrounded by love.

Fat Cat will be forever missed by all of our staff, and clients.

Beautiful Ricci had chewed up some dog toy that caused an obstruction to his digestive tract. He underwent a surgery to remove the foreign body and has made a full recovery. Here is a photo of lovely Ricci and a review from his owner.

We are so glad he has made a complete recovery and we look forward to seeing him for yearly health checks and vaccinations. 🐾🌼💙
