Suns out, tongues out!
With heat waves continuing to hit Perth - please take care out there with all your fur babies. Pets cannot sweat like we do and rely on panting and hydration to keep cool. Some tips in these heatwaves:
- walk dogs early morning or late evening
- ensure there is lots of shade on your walk
- keep your pets well hydrated - lots of fresh water and consider placing ice cubes in the water during the day
- be aware of bituman heat during these times - use the 5 to 7 second, back of hand test on the bituman. We see many dogs with burns of their paw pads at this time of the year.
- brachycephalic breeds like bulldogs/ pugs etc battle even more in this weather and is best to keep indoors in well ventilated/ cooler/ aircon areas. Avoid outdoor walks.
