π₯΅ Hot Tips To Beat The Heat With Our Pets π₯΅
Over the past couple of weeks, we have been experiencing some pretty hot weather π‘οΈ.
These weather conditions are continuing throughout the next week and there are measures which we can put into place to reduce the impact it can have on our pets.
π‘οΈExercise - Walk and play time with your pets should always be in the early hours of the morning or late in the evening. At times, the days can heat up very early, so it is crucial to make sure walks occur while the temperature is still cool and the ground isn't hot. REMEMBER: If the ground is too hot for the back of your hand, it's too hot for your pets feet.
π Hydration - Make sure your pets have several fresh, clean water sources in shaded areas so that if one gets knocked over, there are a couple of backup options. If you can, freeze some water in an old ice cream container to help keep the water cooler for longer.
π₯΅ Shelter - If they're staying outside, make sure they have plenty of access to shaded areas where they can sell protection from the sun and heat. I like to water my garden on hot days so they can lay in the damp earth under bushes/plants.
π¦ Provide them with a small, shallow splash pool (like the clam shells from Bunnings) so they can have a play in there to cool down.
π Never Leave Pets In Cars On Warm/Hot Days - Temperatures in cars can rise extremely quickly (even with windows partially down) and before you know it, you may have an emergency situation on your hands. For their safety & welfare, it's best to keep them at home where they can keep cool until you get back home.
π‘ Indoor Comfort - If you're in a situation that you can leave your pets inside at home, make sure that it is cool inside and that they have plenty of fresh, clean water.
If you are concerned your pet may be suffering from heatstroke, call the clinic immediately to seek advice or contact your closest emergency clinic.
