Miss Harlow is a senior dog with various health issues but she took her groom in her stride today. I let her lay how she wanted and groomed around her so she was happy 🩵🐾

Did you know that the key to ensuring your dog is feeling ok about their grooms is consistency?

It’s a really busy time of year for dog groomers and after speaking with many new clients they have changed from groomer to groomer.

1. Do your research before sending your pet to a groomer. Check reviews, social media and word of mouth.

2. Consider the grooming environment, for example if your dog is anxious, aggressive or excitable busy salon environments are not recommended and one on one grooming may be better.

3. Speak with your groomer if your pet has behavioural needs to find out their methods to calm down your pet. I always talk through with clients the process in working with behavioural dogs.

4. If you don’t like the cut after your first visit with any groomer, tell them give them the opportunity to take on board feedback before switching groomers. Your dog needs consistency and routine which makes a huge impact on their grooming experience.

5. Make sure your groomer has insurance. Injuries happen and unfortunately the grooming industry isn’t regulated so please ensure your groomer is insured to cover any costs if your pet needs any care.

6. Make sure your groomer has a reasonable amount of experience and that they are qualified. Again the industry isn’t covered and some junior groomers may only have done a few days grooming course with a salon to gain a certificate. I personally have a diploma in animal care and grooming which goes into detail about the health risks when grooming and how to avoid accidents and looking out for signs of distress, overheating etc.

7. Talk, meet your groomer before booking to get a feel of them. I hear a lot of unfortunate stories where some grooming businesses lack customer care, charge extra for nails, aggression fees etc without advising the owners upfront.

8. Not all groomers are the same. For example I don’t do styles or show groom cuts like Asian fusion and competitions. This is my personal choice Basic styles such as teddy faces I will do but if you require something specific consult with your groomer and have some photos on hand. If your dog is matted your preferred style may not be achievable.

Thank you Tracey Samoyeds of Western Australia Rescue Inc for the work you do to support this beautiful breed.

I am sorry and heartbroken that Maci didn’t have more time but at least she isn’t in pain anymore and her last few days were in a loving home. 🩵🐾🩵

This is a long post that has taken many weeks to write, as it was the most heartbreaking rescue we've faced since we began.

Sasha having a home is the fantastic news, but you may remember that we rescued 2x Samoyed Sisters - Sasha & Maci.

When these beautiful girls were surrendered to us, we were told that that they were 10 years but really, they were turning 12 years old. We were also told that they were pretty healthy, that was very far from the truth especially for Maci.

Once we picked up these poor girls, we realised that they needed a lot of love & care, and they had not been groomed for a long time. We then took them to Dee at Doggy Styles to be groomed, Dee is always so incredibly generous with helping our rescue at short notice to groom our rescue bears.

These girls' coats were so terribly matted, and their rear ends were covered in their urine and faeces. We had Dee and 3x committee members grooming these girls and it was such a heartbreaking time. They were so badly matted and in pain, that they had to be shaved in places.

We then delivered these gorgeous girls to their foster home, but after 5 days we had to make the heartbreaking decision to euthanize beautiful old Maci and let her pass over the rainbow Bridge as she was in so much pain with hip dysplasia and was not able to get up.

Thank you, Karen, Julian and family, for all that you did for Maci in her short time with you and the love that you gave her, we know that it was not easy, and we are incredibly grateful for what you all did. ❤️🐾

Thank you so much Dee at Doggy Styles WA, we so appreciate your support over the last few challenging months with the influx of Samoyeds that we have rescued.❤️

Thank you so much Mel Cribb & Myles for being our emergency foster carers and taking these special dogs (and so many others) into your home at such short notice and taking care of them until we can find a foster home for them. I am so grateful for your generosity with helping our special rescue Samoyeds.❤️

Thank you so much to Krissie from CMW Pet Apparel for the slings, that you donated so the family were able to get Maci standing up.❤️

I was a little nervous as Dre can be reactive but they accommodated us beautifully and made sure we didn’t cross over with other pooches. I highly recommend. How cute is this photo!
