If you think your pet may have matting please do not leave it. It can cause serious heslth imolicatiins as well as stop the blood flow and circulation. Matting is also very painful for your dog and they dont show their discomfort.

A little start over grooming for this young lady today and I wanted to share some information that it’s important for dog owners to help provide some insight to the impacts of matting and not up-keeping your pets fur with regular brushing and grooming.

🩵 By letting your pets hair grow long over summer months means more regular brushing and upkeep to prevent matting. If your pets fur is not well maintained the hair and the min cannot do their job to regulate the body temperature.

🩵 When there is matting blood circulation rises to the top of the skin and gets stuck as hair follicles are pulled and tightened. Imagine having your hair pulled right all over your body.

🩵 Dog are stoic this means they do not demonstrate signs of discomfort so if there is matting I can guarantee your dog is uncomfortable but they probably won’t show it. However their wellbeing from being matted would be impacted.

🩵 using both a brush and comb at least once per week all over your dog will help prevent matting. Don’t forget to brush the back of the ears, under the arms, tail and where they wear their collars as big problem areas.

🩵 when the fur is matted this can also impact the skin, cause allergies, sores and parasites can start to make home.

🩵 regular grooming should happen every 6-8 weeks but should not be left without grooming care with no brushing etc over the winter periods.

🩵 opt to have little tidy grooms over winter to help maintain your pets fur.

🩵 please also check your pets ears for a yeast like smell to help detect any signs of infection. I pulled this very long thick waxy hair rod from her ears today and there was a lot of wax build up. If left ears may mean surgery later on. You can get solution like epiotic over the counter to help break down wax, however if the build up is sever like this it needs to be gently removed and then trimmed out.

🩵 please also check your pets paws for grass seeds and matting. Grass seeds can also cause serious health issues and potential death.

This is Pipers second groom with me and as you can see she is a fast learner, already a champ with her chin hold positions and relaxed during her groom. Teaching puppies early on to learn the grooming process is really important. It creates safety for the dog if they can remain still but also makes the experience less stressful for them. Good girl Piper. See you next time 🩵🐾🩵

Who remembers Buddy the rescue? He was back today and it was so heartwarming to feel him way more calm then his first visit. He did still get a little grouchy but i didnt mind as the cuddles and kisses made up for it 🥰🥰🥰🥰
