As the temperatures soar, itโs important to remember some simple tips to keep our pets protected from the summer heat & prevent life threatening conditions such as heat stroke ๐ฅต
โ๏ธ Donโt exercise your pets during the hottest parts of the day. If unsure itโs best to skip the walk altogether to be on the safe side. Some breeds such as our brachycephalics (eg pugs , French bulldogs) are particularly at risk so ensure theyโre kept out of the heat
โ๏ธ Always provide lots of shade & try to bring pets inside. Pocket pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs are especially prone to heat exhaustion so make sure theyโre also kept nice and cool ๐ฐ
โ๏ธ Always check the temperature of footpaths and pavement before walking your dog. These can lead to painful burns and wounds needing veterinary treatment
โ๏ธ NEVER leave your pets inside hot cars. The inside temperature of a car is significantly hotter than the outside temperature and can lead to heatstroke quickly
โ๏ธ Ensure plenty of fresh water is available. This includes for our native wildlife who also can struggle in extreme heat with limited access to water
