Divi the hero! The gorgeous Divi donated blood to help other dogs after her brother Jaxon needed two emergency blood transfusions to save his life. Divi’s parents were absolutely wonderful and wanted to do all that they could to save other dogs like their handsome Jaxon. Divi was an absolute angel and loved all the treats and pats! Who needs a beautiful smile to brighten up their day? The gorgeous Jasper came in with his lovely human to donate blood and he was all smiles! Jasper was an absolute joy to work with and his kind donation will save up to three fellow dogs lives!

Meet the handsome Winston (or Winnie when he’s being less formal!).🍫🎩
Winston came in for his first blood donation with his mum Kim and took it all in his stride. He was so focussed on his treats, he didn’t even notice any needle! Winston was an absolute delight and charmed everyone who met him. Winston’s donation could save the lives of up to three other dogs! Thank you so much to our hero Winston and his lovely mum.

Introducing the beautiful Winnie! 🐾🌸

Winnie came in for her first blood donation and was an absolute dream! The most perfect pooch!

Winnie’s mum was there for support and Winnie happily swapped some of her precious blood for delicious chicken, treats and a bit of peanut butter.

Winnie’s donation could save the lives of up to three dogs and we are so grateful to all our donors and their families!

A huge thank you to Miss Winnie and her lovely mum and we can’t wait to see you again!

Feeling a little blue this Monday because of the dreary weather? ⛈️
We’ve got just the thing to start your week off the right way!

🌟Shiloh and Thor🌟
Our two superheroes completed their 10th donation with us last week, aren’t they amazing? 🤩

Over the years they have helped educate fellow vets and nurses on the processes of safe and fear free blood donations.
In addition to helping our industry grow they have also saved numerous dogs across Perth. 🐕

Between the 2 of them they’ve had the ability to save up to 60 different pets.. listed below are the medical conditions their blood and plasma has been used for over the years;
🩸IMHA (immune mediated thrombocytopenia)
🩸ITP (immune thrombocytopenia)
🩸Splenectomy
🩸Rat bait toxicity
🩸Parvo puppies
🩸DIC (disseminated intravascular coagulation)

Meet Kobalt 🦋💙

Or as he’s affectionately known BoBo!

We did a call out to our donors this week as we’ve had quite a few rat bait toxicities come through our doors needing both blood and plasma transfusions.. this is on top of our already high demand and Kobalt raised his paw to help out 😍

Kobalt’s donation was extra special because not only was it his first time… it was also his birthday!! 🥳🎉

He was an absolute dream and sat politely waiting for his chicken to cool down.. he even fell asleep receiving his recovery fluids 😴

Kobalt then had a beautiful birthday cake waiting for him at home to celebrate with his dog sister Kahluna 🎂

On behalf of the recipients and their families, thank you so much Kobalt and HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🥳❤️ We can’t wait to see you next time!

Meet the most handsome chocolate man Winston 🍫🐱🐈‍⬛

Winston recently completed his initial feline donor assessment with flying colours and donated blood with us for the very first time and was an absolute pro! 🌟

Unlike some cats, Winston doesn’t care much for treats, he would much rather the affection and adoration of the hospital staff.. so that’s exactly what he gets!

Each time he comes in, our blood donation coordinator takes him on a tour of the hospital to say hello to everyone in each department, lapping up all the kisses and attention he can get. 🥰

Once he’s back in the donor room he happily flops himself on the floor and waits patiently for his donation to begin.

Numbing cream is applied to his neck and he is lightly sedated with some cotton wool in his ears so he can relax during the process while his mum supports him from the side lines.

Winston’s blood was recently used to save another cats life who is now recuperating at home with their family. On behalf of the recipients family and the team here at WAVES, thank you both so much, we couldn’t save lives without you! ❤️

The ever handsome ROVER!!

Today we celebrated Rovers 10th blood donation here with us at WAVES 🌟1️⃣0️⃣🌟

We of course organised a delicious banana and carob pup-cake from GoFetch Bakery for him to celebrate with!

Over the years Rover has saved over 23 pets in total across Perth, his blood and plasma has gone towards patients with the following conditions;
- Splenectomy (surgical)
- Rat bait toxicity
- Heat stroke induced DIC
- IMHA (immune mediated haemolytic anemia)
- Sepsis

Thanks to Rover and his family, our patients in hospital have received the gift of life and there’s a good chance if your dog has received any blood products from December 2020 it was Rover’s blood that saved them!

In his down time Rover loves rough-housing with his brother Pedro and has even convinced him to donate blood with him too. How cool is that?!

Please join us in congratulating Rover as he enters our prestigious lifetime blood donor club 🏆

Well done Rover, we look forward to seeing you again next time 😍

This big delicious boi is Theordore AKA Theo 🐈

Theo recently visited us for his very first blood donation.. he’s a confident kitty who loves nothing more than walking around the hospital in his harness on a leash and sussing out our store room - BOX GALORE 📦

He is also obsessed with creamy treats and as long as they’re free flowing he will happily offer up a paw to help!

During feline donations, it is essential donor cats have minor sedation, this assists in helping our donors remain stress free while laying on their side and ensures sterility is maintained during the donation process ✅

Our feline donors go through an extensive screening process prior to donation to ensure they’re in peak health so we can provide quality blood products to our hospitalised patients in need.

Theo recently saved another cats life in hospital who is now at home continuing to recover with their family 🏡On behalf of WAVES, the patient and of course their family, thank you so much.. We look forward to seeing that handsome face again soon 😻

Throughout 2024 we have completed over 100 blood donations at WAVES.. and this has only been made possible by our amazing blood donor program participants 🐶🐱

We have celebrated donor milestones and birthdays. We’ve welcomed the next generation of donors on board and have said farewell to some of our most beloved friends who have become like family to us over the years.

To thank our donors and their wonderful families, we wanted to do something a little different this year from the usual Christmas goodie bags.. we wanted to create memories they could cherish and look back upon to remember how precious their contribution to our hospital was and still very much is.
They have changed the lives for many families across Perth by giving hope and a second chance to our patients through their donations.

We encourage you to thank them with us and wish them a very Merry Christmas 🌟
