Guide Dogs are most commonly Labrador Retrievers or Golden Retrievers, due to their loyal, affectionate and highly trainable nature!

Just a reminder with all this ongoing hot weather.
Some days are more difficult than others. Thanks to the wonderful people who show their support and appreciation. We very much enjoyed morning tea, thank you Winston's family! ❤️
We hope you are all also enjoying a well earned break to reflect on the gifts of this beautiful country we call home.
The Ark Vet will also be closed tomorrow and Sunday for the long weekend and will resume normal hours on Monday 29th January.
Due to the current, nationwide cat vaccine shortage, the Australian Veterinary Association has recommended that kittens be given priority in receiving vaccinations.
All Vet clinics have extremely limited stock available.
Fully vaccinated adult cats can safely delay their annual boosters until stocks return - estimated to be mid April 2024. Please contact the clinic to be put on our waiting list.
If your pet requires vaccination to enter boarding, please call us to discuss availability.
It is extremely important that kittens receive vaccination against Cat Flu (Feline herpesvirus and calicivirus) and Feline Panleukopaenia at 6-8 weeks and again at 10-12 weeks, to prevent an outbreak of these serious diseases in the wider community.
Stay safe everyone. It is tipping up to 42 degrees today.

With scorching temperatures this week, please think of your pooch's paws before going for a walk. Early morning or late evening is best, and remember that it's okay to skip a walk if it's too hot! Stay cool 😎
Remembrance Day 2023
☀️ HOT WEATHER WARNING! ☀️
Today will be hot! Please share this reminder! 🔥
Although it's the weekend and you might want to take your pooch out for the day, it is NEVER OK to leave your dog in the car – not even for “5 minutes while I duck into the shops”.
In temperatures like today’s, the temp inside the car can quickly rise to dangerous levels, and your dog can start to suffer from heatstroke. It is always better to leave your dog at home where there is shade and plenty of water, where you know that they will be safe. There are NO EXCUSES.
Here are some tips to keep your pet as cool as a cucumber this weekend! 🥒
🐾 If you are going out, leave your mate at home with plenty of shade and water available!
🐾 Make sure multiple bowls of water are available - you can even add some ice to cool it down!
🐾 Do not walk your pet in the heat of the day, keep walks for early mornings or evenings when the pavement has cooled down!
🐾 Bring your pets indoors if possible!
🐾 Provide a shell pool filled with water for your dog to cool themselves down!
If you see a dog in a hot car, note down the vehicle's registration number and location and report it immediately to the RSPCA Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 358 (1300 CRUELTY) or call WA Police on 000.
A friendly reminder that we will be closed on Saturdays starting from tomorrow 21st October through to 25th November, and Saturday 9th December.
If you require after-hours care or advice, please contact either Western Australian Veterinary Emergency and Specialty- WAVES on 9412 5700 or Perth Vet Emergency on 9207 5207.
We apologise for any inconvenience.
This Friday, 20th October, the Kelmscott Agricultural Show will feature a fireworks display at approximately 8.30pm. This will be the only fireworks display this year, as the show will officially close at 6pm on Saturday evening. We would like to remind residents to take precautions for pets who may be negatively impacted by the fireworks.
Additionally, should you have any issues with the operations of the Kelmscott Agricultural Show, please contact our Office on 9495 4001. We look forward to providing a great community event at our 124th Show.
Happy Vet Nurses Day to our wonderful team here at Ark.
Happy Birthday Queen Kiki! 🥳
Kiki is 6 years old today, and isn't she just the cutest little thing?
We love you cheeky girl 💜
Update: Back up and running! 🥳
We are currently experiencing a power outage which means we are unable to access our computers or eftpos, and unfortunately limited with our treatments and procedures.
Our phone lines have been diverted so that we can still receive phone calls, but please bear with us while we wait for the issue to resolve. Currently the estimated restoration time is 5pm! We will endeavour to get back on track ASAP.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Did you know that the Veterinary industry has one of the highest su***de rates of all health care professions, and that Veterinarians are four times more likely to die by su***de than the general population?
Today is R U OKAY? Day, and while we try to advocate for mental health awareness year-round, today especially is an important one.
Take a moment to check in with loved ones and encourage them to speak openly about their thoughts and/or struggles. Listen with patience and without judgement, and above all BE KIND.

Congratulations to the winner of the Nexgard Spectra Promo Raffle, Millie Malajczuk! We hope she enjoys her goodies! 🐾
This is not OK. Dumping a box of kittens at midnight in the cold and rain at our front door. Fortunately we were open the next day. Our wonderful staff took care of these 5 hungry babies who still needed bottle feeding. Then in their OWN time, with their OWN fuel, one of our fabulous, caring nurses took them to the Cat Haven who gladly took them in for a small, $10 donation to raise and rehome. This was YOUR RESPONSIBILITY. Your pet should be sterilised. If by some 'accident' your pet gives birth, the babies are also your responsibility. If you cannot care for them yourself, take them to those who can. In person. In daylight. So they are not put at risk. No questions asked, no blame cast. The animal's welfare is what is important here. Cat Haven 08 9442 3600 Local shelters: Armadale Community Animal Rescue Group 08 9399 4906 Animal Protection Society 08 9398 6616
