A pioneer for British breeding & competition Jennie Loriston Clarke
My time training at Catherston had a profound effect on me and shaped my professional career in the equine industry.
30 years on I still feel incredibly fortunate to have been able to train at Catherston Stud & given opportunities that set me up for life.
To ride horses such as Dutch Gold to learn to feel what Dressage movements should be.
To warm up & cool down for Jennie & Lizzie.
Riding at least 5 horses a day.
To dive into the crazy busy stud season, memorising paddocks of visiting mare names, teasing mares, vet work, covering & foaling down dozens of mares under the guidence of Jennie & stud manager Angie.
Foal handling, breaking in & helping to produce stallions & mares for gradings. Jumping with Corrine Bracken on Fridays & later in the evening being guinea pigs for their famous lecture demos or setting up SJ courses / Dressage arenas for weekend competitions sometimes under the guidance of other legends such as Mark Todd.
My love for M&M ponies & native British breeds started here too.
It was hard hard work, looonnnng hours , rarely a day off but I would not have changed it for the world.
Jennie’s kindness didn’t stop at “horses”. She helped me navigate through some very difficult times (at home) and I still feel immensely grateful & privileged to have had her help & guidence at a time when I needed it most.
In more recent times it was Jennie who helped me make the final decision of picking a then baby Salzburg in Germany to hopefully stand as a future stallion for me here in WA.
Thankyou Catherston
