Today, reflecting on my journey as a first-time mum brings a whirlwind of emotions, from the overwhelming joy of holding Little Miss for the first time to the daily challenges of sleepless nights. I miss the carefree days, but through it all, there’s an indescribable love ♥️ Can’t believe Little Miss will be one soon!
This day isn’t just about me though; it’s also a chance to honour my own mum. She has been so supportive, guiding me through this new chapter of life and helping with the business 🥰
Today, we honour the bond between mothers and children, whether they’re two-legged or four-legged. Mother’s Day can evoke various emotions; for those facing fertility issues, loss, or strained relationships, we extend our deepest empathy.

Recently, mumma gave me creative control to create something special for Chester and his friends’ birthday celebration. It needed to be a big round cake with neutral colours and have a “Happy Birthday” and the number four on it. Across Australia, there are many celebrations that may involve fireworks 🎆 We thought we’d share a couple of tips on keeping your pooch (and you!) calm during this time 👇🏼
🕰️ Early Preparation is Key
Know when fireworks are expected and prepare early to ease your pup’s anxiety.
🐕 Exercise and Relaxation
Ensure your pet gets exercise beforehand for a calm and well-fed companion.
👀 Supervision Matters 🐾
Supervise your dog to prevent escapes or injuries; enlist help if needed.
🏡 Create a Safe Indoor Haven
Set up a quiet, comfortable space indoors with familiar hiding spots.
🎶 Mask the Noise
Use music or TV to drown out the fireworks’ sound and provide a distraction.
☮️ Stay Calm and Carry On
Maintain a calm atmosphere, perform routine activities, and avoid excessive fussing.
🎾 Distraction Techniques

I didn’t think I could love as much as I love you (but 🤫 don’t tell dad or Ivy). Being a dog mum brings me so much joy - from having apparel with your face on it, to arranging sleepovers at grandma’s house, to featuring you in all our celebrations and even starting a business for you 😆
I know life has changed a lot in this past year, with you having to share the attention and love. It’s been tough realising how our relationship has shifted 🥺 - from snuggling all day to just at night, from taking you everywhere to you being at home most of the time. I feel guilty for not spending as much time with you as before, especially when I’m tired and I snap at you 😢

Frankie Loves Barkery is the loving venture of Perth-based pup owner Esther and her cavoodle, Frankie.
Their journey began back in 2017 when Frankie started suffering from food intolerances and allergies due to ingredients found in many shop-bought dog foods. As an avid baker herself, and refusing to give up on her furbaby, Esther started creating her own treats so she knew exactly what went into Frankie’s food. Before long, she was getting inundated requests from friends seeking healthy treats for their own pups, and the rest is history!
