Naughty Elf has eaten some tinsel, we've had to make him vomit! Tinsel can be dangerous for Elves and your pet !

Tinsel, shiny decorations, and tree ornaments might look festive, but they can be hazardous to pets! Cats love to climb trees, and if they ingest tinsel or string, it can cause serious gastrointestinal issues or blockages.

Keep fragile decorations and tinsel out of reach!

Summer is here and we are all feeling the heat! Remember to protect not only yourselves but also our furry friends from heat stroke. Prevention is key with many ways to keep cool including paddling pools, ice treats and even cooling mats and fans. Look for any signs of overheating and NEVER leave an animal in the car. A dog can die from heat stroke in a car in less than 6 minutes!
If you need any advice don't hesitate to ask us. Stay cool 😎

An update on our climate care progress!

After noting a significant leak in our hot water system, we recently installed a heat pump water heater.

Heat pump water heaters extract heat from the air to heat water rather than using a traditional element. This can save up to 75% electricity usage compared to traditional storage water heaters!

Stay tuned for more climate care updates!

Beautiful Luci was very brave for her cytopoint injection today. Allergies are very common especially at this time of year. It's no fun being itchy all the time! Our vets are experienced at managing allergies and are more than happy to discuss ongoing management with you.

It's grass seed season again! Common grasses like Kangaroo grass create grass awns to propagate themselves.
Unfortunately these can be a real pain for her furry friends!
Bella came in today for a very sore ear. We removed 2 large awns from her ear under a sedation. Hopefully Bella feels a lot better!
To potentially prevent grass seeds illnesses, keep grass mowed and keep your dogs feet and ears trimmed short. Check your dog daily for seeds if they have been in contact.

Wildlife Wednesday!
This little Motorbike frog came in from Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre for a checkup - no significant injuries were detected so he/she should be able to be released.
A more interesting case was this kookaburra who carer's thought didn't seem quite right. You can see from her xray that she wasn't! Known as being 'eggbound', this occurs when an egg is unable to be passed. We have collapsed the egg and hope she makes a full recovery!

Today is World Animal Day!
World Animal Day is recognized annually on October 4th - celebrating animal rights and welfare across the globe. It has been marked since 1925, with a growing international community striving to end the needless suffering of all animals.

By increasing awareness and improving education worldwide, those involved are helping to create a space recognising wild and farmed animals as sentient beings with thoughts, feelings, and individual personalities. Their animal welfare practices, and treatment must reflect this.

How can you help?
-Donating consumables such as towels to local veterinary practices, rescues and wildlife centres
- volunteering
- buy RSPCA approved products
- spread awareness to your peers
-make changes to help slow climate change

Our Climate Care journey is progressing, and gee are we learning a lot!
Did you know that our practice has over 7 waste streams - including donating items that can be used as craft supplies to REmida Perth.

Today we got busy conducting a waste audit to find out how well these streams are working. We were pleasantly surprised that less than 20% of items in the general waste were found in the wrong stream! We've also learned that we can start composting used paper towels to reduce landfill waste even further.

Reducing our carbon footprint is important to our team because we believe that healthy animals need a healthy climate.
