💜 MOJO UPDATE 💜

It’s been just over 2 weeks since Mojos dental and he had his post op check with the lovely Dr Sarah at Vogue Vets & Wellness Centre 😻

His mouth is looking (and smelling) much better!
Once we have his diabetes completely under control he will need the remaining teeth that will soon cause him issues removed.

Zuko’s Road to Recovery

Yesterday, our brave boy Zuko underwent TPLO surgery with Dr. Jaime and nurse Payton assisting, and we’re so happy to report that everything went smoothly! Take a look at that impressive 4 degree angle on his post-op X-ray—what a perfect outcome.

Zuko is already showing us how strong he is, as he’s weight-bearing on his leg just one day after surgery! He’s resting up at home and being spoiled with love and care to help him along his recovery journey.

We’ll keep you all updated on Zuko’s progress as he continues healing, but so far, we couldn’t be prouder of our boy. Thank you to everyone who’s sent their well wishes, your support means the world to us and Zuko! 💙

Zuko’s Pre-Surgery Prep 🐾

Our boy Zuko is getting all the love and care he deserves as he gears up for his TPLO surgery tomorrow. Today, he had a relaxing massage with Gaya to help ease the tension in his muscles from compensating on his other leg. He’s been such a trooper, but we know it hasn’t been easy for him.

We’re feeling a mix of nerves and relief knowing he’s on the path to recovery, and we’re doing everything we can to set him up for success. Post-surgery updates will be coming soon, thank you all for keeping Zuko in your thoughts. Send him some positive vibes for a smooth procedure tomorrow! 💙

Meet Zuko – Our Brave Vet Nurse’s Dog!

Zuko, our vet nurse’s beloved American Staffordshire Terrier, is gearing up for his second TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy). But this isn’t your average cruciate case, it’s a fascinating one that highlights the importance of digging deeper when healing doesn’t go as planned.

Zuko’s journey began back in New Zealand when he tore his cruciate ligament simply by tripping up some stairs. This shows just how easily these injuries can happen, especially in active dogs! After undergoing his first TPLO surgery, the plan was to let him heal before relocating him to Australia. However, the recovery wasn’t progressing as expected. Despite following all the post-op protocols, his leg just wasn’t healing.

When Zuko arrived in Australia, Dr. Jaime took over his care. After thorough diagnostics and careful observation, she discovered the missing piece of the puzzle: Zuko had hypothyroidism! This condition, which slows metabolism and can impair healing, explained why his first TPLO had failed to heal properly. Interestingly, Zuko hadn’t shown many of the classic signs of hypothyroidism, making this an even trickier case to crack.

Now, with his condition properly managed and his thyroid levels under control, Zuko is ready for his second TPLO. We’re optimistic this surgery will be a success and give Zuko the quality of life he deserves!

This case is a great reminder of how every detail matters in veterinary medicine and why we’re so lucky to have a team that leaves no stone unturned. Here’s to a smooth recovery for our superstar Zuko! Follow along with us for his recovery journey. ❤️‍🩹

Paging Dr. Zuko, report to surgery STAT! 🐾🩺

Dr. Zuko showed up for his first day as a surgeon today… and let’s just say his technique is unconventional.

Highlights from the shift:
1️⃣ Tried to eat the surgical gloves (for “research purposes,” of course).
2️⃣ Turned the stethoscope into a chew toy.
3️⃣ Insisted on performing a belly rub examination—on himself.

Here are some holiday tips to keep your pets safe and happy as we approach the big day:

🐾 Keep decorations out of paw’s reach. Tinsel, ornaments, and string lights might look like toys to curious pets but can pose serious risks.
🐾 Watch the treats! Chocolate, rich foods, and certain holiday plants like poinsettias and mistletoe can be harmful to pets.
🐾 Create a safe space. With holiday visitors and excitement, pets can feel overwhelmed. A quiet spot just for them can help ease their stress.
🐾 Plan ahead for travel. If you’re heading out of town, make sure your pet’s boarding or pet-sitting arrangements are booked in advance.

🌾 Grass Seeds: A Hidden Danger for Pets 🌾

Meet Jazz the Kelpie—a brave patient with quite a story to tell! Jazz came to us with a sneaky culprit causing her trouble: a grass seed lodged up her nose! Thankfully, with surgical intervention, we were able to safely remove it, and Jazz is back to her happy, tail-wagging self.

Why Are Grass Seeds Dangerous?
These small, sharp seeds may look harmless, but they can cause big problems for pets. They can:
➡️ Lodge in ears, noses, paws, or fur.
➡️ Burrow into the skin, leading to infections or abscesses.
➡️ Travel inside the body, causing serious internal issues.

Signs Your Pet May Be Affected:
🐾 Persistent sneezing or nasal discharge.
🐾 Licking or chewing paws excessively.
🐾 Head shaking or scratching at ears.
🐾 Swelling, redness, or discomfort in any area.

How to Keep Your Pets Safe:
🌱 Regularly check your pet’s paws, ears, and coat after walks, especially in grassy areas.
🌱 Keep their fur trimmed to reduce the chances of seeds getting caught.
🌱 Avoid overgrown grassy areas when possible.
