🐾 What’s That Belly Flap on My Cat? 🐾

That loose, jiggly skin near your cat’s back legs is called the primordial pouch, and it’s completely normal!

It’s believed to:
✔️ Protect vital organs
✔️ Help with movement and stretching
✔️ Store energy (fat) in wild cats.

It doesn’t necessarily mean your cat is overweight. Even healthy cats have one!

🐾 What To Do Wednesday, If Your Dog or Cat Is Stiff 🐾

Cold mornings can make your pet’s joints seize up, especially for seniors or those with early signs of arthritis. ❄️

If your furry friend is extra stiff or showing signs of pain, we recommend giving us a call to book an appointment to check their mobility. In the meantime, try these home tips:

🔸 Heat therapy – Use pet-safe heat packs or warm blankets to soothe sore joints (they love this!).

🔸 Gentle movement – Short, light walks can keep them mobile.

🔸 Massage – A light massage can improve circulation and ease stiffness.

🔸 Non-slip surfaces – Place rugs or mats on slippery floors to help them move safely.

🔸 Joint supplements – We highly recommend 4CYTE!

We stock both the granules and epiitalis gel at reception. It's perfect for both preventative support and managing arthritis. It's fantastic because it contains natural anti-inflammatory properties and supports cartilage repair, helping pets stay active and comfortable longer. 🐶🐱

🌧️ What to do when you cannot go for a walk due to the rain🌧️

Mental and physical stimulation is so important for our fur babies. Herr are some indoor enrichment ideas to keep your pet entertained!

🧩 Snuffle Mat
Sprinkle kibble or treats in the mat’s nooks and crannies, and let your dog forage to their heart’s content. It slows eating, exercises their mind, and taps into natural sniffing instincts. These can be purchased at Kmart, online or pet stores.

🍽️ “Dinner Hunt” Game
Turn mealtime into an adventure by tossing dinner kibble around the floor or hiding it in boxes, its great for stimulating their nose and keeping them engaged.

🌀 Kong Wobbler Challenge
Load up a Kong Wobbler with kibble or treats. As your dog nudges it, it dispenses food, providing both fun and a slower, healthier eating experience. These can be purchased online or at a pet store.

👀 Hide & Seek
Use the command “stay,” then hide somewhere in your home. Call them to find you, it’s a fun game that strengthens recall training and mental sharpness. The kids love getting involved too!

🎓 Trick Training Time
Dedicate 5–10 minutes to teaching fun commands like “high-five,” “roll over,” or “spin.” These short bursts of learning sharpen their mind and deepen your bond.

Let us know if you have any other suggestions that work!

🧊🐾 Did you know? Dogs sweat through their paws!

Unlike us, dogs don’t sweat all over their bodies. Their paw pads help regulate their temperature, which is why you'll often see pets stretched out on cool surfaces when they’re feeling warm. 🐶

🌡️ If your pet is cold, warming their paws can help raise their body temperature quicker. Something as simple as placing a soft blanket over their feet can make a big difference!

💉 Fun fact from our clinic: When our patients are under anaesthetic, we often pop little socks on their paws! Anaesthesia can lower their body temperature, so this small step helps keep them cosy and stable during procedures. 🧦❤️
