We hope everyone is enjoying the Christmas prep and getting into the festive spirit!

Just a friendly reminder to keep your pets safe over the holidays:

❌ No ham for pets – it’s too salty and can make them very unwell
🍖 Avoid cooked bones – they can splinter and cause serious injury
🍫 Keep wrapped chocolates well out of reach, especially on or under the Christmas tree
🚪 Be mindful of open doors and visitors – excited pets can easily slip outside.

Do you have enough medication to get you through the Christmas period?

We will be closed from the 25th–28th of December, so please make sure you request any repeat medications ahead of time.

✨ Why Do We Recommend Blood Tests Before Surgery? ✨

Even when pets seem perfectly healthy, pre-anaesthetic blood tests give us a clearer picture of what’s happening on the inside — helping us keep your pet as safe as possible during their procedure. 💙🐾

Here’s what we’re checking:

🔹 Kidney & liver function – These organs process anaesthetic. We want to make sure they’re working well so your pet can recover smoothly.
🔹 Red & white blood cells – To screen for anaemia, infection or inflammation that might not be obvious from the outside.
🔹 Electrolyte balance – Ensures your pet is stable and less likely to experience complications under anaesthetic.

If anything looks unusual, we can tailor the anaesthetic plan or postpone the procedure, because safety always comes first. 💛

🔥 Heatwave Reminder for Pet Owners 🔥

With very hot weather expected this weekend, it’s important to be mindful of heat stress and heat stroke in pets. Dogs and cats can overheat quickly, even on days that don’t feel extreme to us.

🐾 Watch for signs such as:
• Heavy panting or drooling
• Weakness or lethargy
• Vomiting or diarrhoea
• Red or pale gums
• Collapse

💧 Simple ways to help keep pets safe:
• Keep them indoors during the hottest part of the day
• Provide plenty of fresh water
• Walk dogs early morning or late evening only
• Never leave pets in cars
• Make sure outdoor pets have shade and airflow

⚠️ If you think your pet may be overheating, move them somewhere cool and give us a call straight away!

Please take care this weekend our pets rely on us to keep them safe in the heat, and dont forget our flying friends, a bowl of water out the front of the house and garden will help them immensely. 🐾🐦‍⬛🐦
